What are the life changing things you've done?

Things that have had a big positive impact? Not children/marriage etc, but things that maybe didn't seem that big but have had a big impact.

I've made a few changes lately, but feel there's more work to do. I've got some money to throw at it if that's needed, but they could be big or small.

For me, the best ones have been a decision to say yes to almost everything and buying an Eufy robovac 😆

Taking up weight lifting in my mid-30s (early 40s now).

Made more of a positive difference to my physical and mental health and actual physical form than any other kind of exercise I've ever done.

mushroommummy · 09/10/2023 17:52

Ohh well mine is quite a big move.

I left my crazy demanding, 80 hours a week career and opened up my own shop/studio. Love it l, loads of time with my husband and kids and the best part is my
mental health is soooo much better!!

clakster14 · 09/10/2023 17:56

Lost 6.5 stone. Feel like a new person. Took me a year, I am 50 next month and it's the best present i have ever given myself!

IBelieveInAThingCalledScience · 09/10/2023 18:04

Tongue scrapping.

I had meticulous dental hygiene (complete with manual and water flossing), got regular check ups and cleaning at the dentist and still felt my breath was far from ideal.

Tongue scrapping changed that ON THE FIRST DAY. It takes 2 minutes in the morning and night and I'm m religious about it.

Running and weight lifting.

Meditation and Mobility exercises.

Matcha lattes to substitute one of the 6 espressos I used to have a day.

Habit stacking:
Watch fave series + treadmill
Brush teeth + calf raises
Fold laundry + Netflix
Walks + Call family
Chores + Audiobooks
Running indoors + hair mask

Strokethefurrywall · 09/10/2023 18:05

MidnightOnceMore · 09/10/2023 18:10

Shout out to @clakster14 and @Heyhoherewegoagain - your GPs would no doubt agree those are life changing achievements - I'm impressed because it must have taken so much persistence!

I guess it different for different people and different times of life. I had rather too much time on my hands and have discovered I'm not as introverted as I thought.

Oh wow! Well done you. That's fantastic.

stayathomer · 09/10/2023 18:14

Standing outside in the morning without a phone before I start to get everything and everyone and myself ready. Sometimes with tea.

Also stopping using my phone an hour before bed and reading instead! (Doesn’t happen all the time but I try most nights a week)

My own clothes put out the night before (one less decision to make)

SurvivingNotThriving · 09/10/2023 18:15

Taking up running.
Starting a blog.

(These two are not connected.)

C1239 · 09/10/2023 18:17

@IBelieveInAThingCalledScience - habit stacking, I love that idea!

My life changer was starting so say no to almost everything! I am loving life in the slow lane.

Yes, me too.

Something clearly happened on my 50th. I no longer felt the need to follow herd mentality or to attend a function because I felt that I had to.
I'd , subsequently get invites and my mouth would open and say ' no I can't but thank you for asking.'
I'm approaching my 60th and I'm blissful in my avoidance of awkward gatherings.

Life in the slow lane suits me fine.

sadaboutmycat · 09/10/2023 18:18

Taking up running at 50.

Tribevibes · 09/10/2023 18:19

Completing an OU degree.

pinksunglasses · 09/10/2023 18:20

Going onto medication for my mental health. I wish I’d done it sooner, I’ve had problems since I was a child and I had no idea how good things could be. I was a train wreck late teens/early 20s.

JamSandle · 09/10/2023 18:21

Going travelling.

Living overseas.

Volunteering.

Going to the gym six days a week (I haven't in years but had so much energy and looked fantastic).

Making the first move.
