DC will be 6 this Christmas. We don't really have childcare so haven't been to midnight mass since DC was born. Was wondering if DC is old enough to attend? We'd obviously have to wake DC from sleep for it? If you take your young DC for midnight Mass, at what age did you start please? DH says DC might be bored , but I think with the singing of hyms etc DC won't be. We tried taking DC to Sunday mass when they were 4, didnt want to be there ,said it was boring. We havent tried since.Thought please, Tia xx

Most of my favourite Christmas memories are around going to Midnight Mass around that age.

We'd go to bed at 7, be bundled out, feeling our empty stockings on the way. Then when we got home at about 12.30, they'd be filled, the mince pie would be eaten, and we'd open all of our presents. We'd head up to bed about 2am, taking all our new presents with us. Be dead to the world in the morning, til we woke up and immediately started playing in our rooms.

No exhaustion, no grumpiness. All stage-managed to frankly genius levels by my parents. They had duplicate stockings that could be swapped empty for full in a few seconds....

I've taken mine since around 2. Midnight mass is a highlight of Christmas for us, it's a wonderfully warming mass. All the kids there are excited for Christmas

My DC really enjoy being out and about at night, so this is something they look forward to. In our case, we usually have a bit of a family get together in the hours leading up to it, so they are rarely asleep. You don't have to take them, you could decide to go alone.

Same with New Year's Eve (where people on MN less likely to judge you...)

Can you or dh go on your own and one stay home? I think it's really unfair to wake your sleeping child
