Is it a waste of money buying new bras before TTC?

TTC as of this month, it’s coincided with needing new bras. We go on holiday soon and I need a couple. Impossible to buy cheap nice ones as my cup size is FF, so can’t just go to Asda and buy a few - meaning I’m looking on the next website and it’s looking like £25 a bra.

I wanted to get 3 but would that be stupid to? Conceived immediately previously but ended in loss. Basically this means if we conceive fast again, I could potentially have a different bra size in a matter of months and so not much use out of them? 🙈

Did your bra size change lots in pregnancy?

Massively, but I lost my pg weight within 8 weeks each time and once I stopped bf my old bras were fine. If we went out for an evening they were fine once bf was established.

My feet on the other hand remained half a size bigger after baby 1.

Thank you! That’s crazy about your feet, I didn’t know that could happen

Buying something expensive and incompatible with pregnancy is a good way to ensure you get pregnant.

Hi @maybemaybeno
My breasts are definitely bigger, i'm still managing to wear my normal size bras. I would get some new bras if you need them especially if you're going on holiday.

@maybemaybeno
Sorry hun, forgot to say i didn't have to change my bra size through out my pregnancy x

AnguaResurgam · 07/10/2023 14:26

ASDA don't do EE or FF but do have (limited) availability of G.

It might be worth trying a "sister size" from there (one up in the band, one down in the cup). Not perfect, but depending on the cut of the bra might well be very acceptable, and would be a good budget option to tide you over

HBZ287 · 07/10/2023 14:26

It was more my ribcage size which changed during pregnancy, which can be accommodated with bra extenders. Then I went up a few cup sizes immediately post birth but back to normal(ish) size by the time baby was 3 months old, though still breastfeeding. Good luck!

😂

This is exactly what I was going to say... whenever you buy them you will get pg that monthr...so might as well buy them now

Mine are 2 sizes bigger…
And I was an 8 before.
DD is 27 so I’m pretty sure it’s permanent.

Summerisawashout · 07/10/2023 14:39

My rib cage expanded and bras were so uncomfortable that I ended up wearing mostly soft, sport bra type things

My dd is a 28F so expensive new because you can't buy in regular shops so I buy new eith tags on eBay got some lovely bras for her really reasonably priced.

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 07/10/2023 14:55

I was a DD pre pregnancy and also swapped regular bras for the soft Calvin Klein sports-type ones for nursing / afterwards. They lift easily and my boobs are more lopsided now as I ended up feeding more from one side. Any chance of picking up some cheap but new ones on Vinted or similar? Bras are so expensive, I really resent paying for such an uncomfortable item of clothing – I whip them off as soon as I’m home!

They are crazy expensive. I’m just reluctant to spend £100 if I’m not even going to fit them in 2-3 months!

Yes I agree!

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 07/10/2023 15:24

My breasts went up at least a cup size before I even had a missed period

Absolute waste of money. Your boobs can really go in any direction and then some! Some women's change again after breast feeding others don't. You won't know what yours will do until after you've had the baby.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 07/10/2023 15:38

@maybemaybeno yup that was first symptom!

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 07/10/2023 15:40

Mine were already bigger than yours before getting pregnant (cup size K) so I was very worried about how big mine would get. I'm 33 weeks now and what I noticed was they got 'denser' but didn't have that explosion in size others have. Prepregnancy bras still fit. I didn't want to wear wires so I bought a couple from Molke. They fit multiple sizes so they still fit if you change size a bit. I can still fit in the ones I bought right before I got pregnant.

My nipples are already leaking colostrum so lack of change in size doesn't seem to have hurt 🤷‍♀️

PurBal · 07/10/2023 15:41

I went from a 32D to a 38G at my biggest. I’ve bought 9 bras during and post pregnancy. I had my second baby 3 months ago and I don’t even know what size my boobs are.

2weekstowait · 07/10/2023 15:43

I wouldn't buy too many - I've never been the same size since and my youngest is 15!

Yep. I bought myself a whole new wardrobe in Spring of 2018. I had a son in early 2019.
