Yes I reuse it.

MNetcurtains · 06/10/2023 07:02

Yes.

Ostryga · 06/10/2023 07:02

I buy the really thick expensive stuff, and if it’s not covered in burnt on food/grease yes I reuse it otherwise I have to take out a mortgage to afford it 😂

I bin it. It never entered my head to reuse it.

TulipsTulipTulips · 06/10/2023 07:07

Reuse, unless it’s really grubby.

Its increasingly energy intensive to make.

Funderthighs · 06/10/2023 07:08

Yes, I often re-use it. My mother used to wash and re-use cling film. (I think that’s a step too far 😳)

Crumpetdisappointment · 06/10/2023 07:09

that is interesting thank you

Yes we wash and re-use, but the only thing we really use it for is covering roast meat to rest so it lasts for several uses, a roll of it lasts years so we buy the strong sort. After that I save it for recycling along with the foil dishes from pies, takeaways, soft cheese lids etc, we take it to the tip.

Hollyhead · 06/10/2023 07:19

Yes - I also sometimes cut off bits that are beyond reuse and keep cleaner parts from the edge

BigDahliaFan · 06/10/2023 07:20

If it’s grunky with burnt on stuff no, if it’s just been covering something while it rests, yes.

don’t often use it to be honest, use great proof paper to cover stuff in oven more….

Alargeoneplease89 · 06/10/2023 07:22

I thought it would be unhygienic

WitchyFingers · 06/10/2023 07:24

Bin it, there isn't a war on 🙄

RoyKentFanclub · 06/10/2023 07:24

Of course. It’s so wasteful just to throw it away

Nonplusultra · 06/10/2023 07:26

I rarely use it, so no. It would have to sit around too long between uses.

EfficientlyDecluttering · 06/10/2023 07:28

We just fold it up and put it back in the drawer where the roll of it lives, so its not sitting around as it can be weeks before we need it again.

Crumpetdisappointment · 06/10/2023 07:29

ok - i have folded it up and put it in the drawer of shame

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 06/10/2023 07:30

Yes.

Papillon23 · 06/10/2023 07:33

I would reuse it if it was fairly clean but I rarely use foil in circumstances where it would be clean so it's not a regular occurrence.

I've switched to silicon dish covers and reusable sandwich bags though so I don't use it often.

xyz111 · 06/10/2023 07:37

If it's clean, recycle!

InterFactual · 06/10/2023 07:37

It sounds like people are covering meat, then not wiping the foil and instead folding it up and putting it in the drawer when it has some meat juice on it. That has to be a new low for Mumsnet. Remind me never to eat at your houses. 😱

I mean I would wash and dry it if I planned to reuse it - but if it's been covering an oven dish and has baked on stuff I wouldn't faff round trying to wash it.

Who said that? Obviously you clean it first

whatisforteamum · 06/10/2023 07:46

As a chef I'm shocked at this. Why risk cross contamination and food poisoning for a couple of quid.
I say this as someone who lives on a budget.

what??? Do you throw away all of your dishes and pans and plates and cutlery after a single use? Just wash it! Bizarre

Cookerhood · 06/10/2023 07:51

At least recycle it if you aren't going to reuse it. We reuse ours as long as it's clean.
