Yes, I re-use if it isn't too mucky. Also I use a piece over an opened yogurt pot, for instance, to keep in fridge, although I know a saucer would do. A local eatery makes take-away toasted tuna and cheese sandwiches. If I buy one it always comes wrapped in a yard of foil. A little wash to get the odds bits of melty cheese off and I have enough for ten Christmases floating in the 'greaseproof drawer'.
Also, see Munchies, Grace Road, Leicester, bacon baps wrapped in foil.

For those who are shocked by the idea of reusing it, I would look up the impact of aluminum mining, then be shocked by that instead. At least make sure you recycle it. Better still, try and find alternatives. Lidded containers, silicon flexible lids, plates for example.

What is everyone using foil so regularly on?!

I use mine once a week for my Sunday roast, then very occasionally to cover other things in the oven. I wash and reuse, unless too manky.

Probably the only time I don't reuse it is after a roast. I'll wrap the remains of the chicken in it in the fridge but it tends to get quite torn & manky. As pp said, I really don't use it much & reuse or recycle where I can. Have lots of silicone lids.
The other thing I do if I feel a piece is coming to the end of its life is wrap all my other little bits of foil in it, like milk bottle tops etc. I heard that small pieces don't get picked up by the recycling procedures but I've no idea if it's true!

It sounds like people are covering meat, then not wiping the foil and instead folding it up and putting it in the drawer when it has some meat juice on it. That has to be a new low for Mumsnet. Remind me never to eat at your houses. 😱

Of course we’re not, it is washed and left to dry before folding it up and putting it away.

Each to their own.
I follow the same cleanliness at home as I do at work.
I wouldn't want to make a customer ill or myself or family.
We only use foil once or twice a year though.

Ladyj84 · 06/10/2023 10:55

Nope I don't reuse don't want what it's been covered in on my next dish lol

By your logic, if you can't wash a piece of metal that is covering a piece of food and make it clean enough to use again...then you can't wash a piece of metal that was used to cut the food to make it clean enough to use again...

So presumably you never reuse any metals in your kitchen?

Nope I don't reuse don't want what it's been covered in on my next dish lol

but you use the same knife and fork to eat the next dish and surely that is covered in whatever it was used for last lol

Confused

Oh wait...no because you wash things between use. And shock horror... you can wash foil between uses too...

I wash it and reuse it. I have also banned cling film. I have one roll that is pre Covid that I will use if absolutely necessary. I now use paper bags or systema boxes for sandwiches and I reuse the paper bags where possible.

Woollymonster · 06/10/2023 11:04

Yes, I reuse or recycle. I actually use it more frequently now, since stopping using cling film. I do have silicone tops as well, but not enough for all our left overs!

Incognito2023 · 06/10/2023 11:06

Often reuse it - usually to line bottom of grill tray

Doesn't that defeat the entire point of an airfryer?!

No, the Ninja has an inner metal bowl which is solid metal, the heat comes from above and there is still more than enough space for the air to circulate round the basket.
