Lenny Henry

And anyone who does pranks They are just not funny ever. so Jeremy Beadle, and lots of more modern youtube ones. Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross fell firmly into that category with the Andrew Sachs thing.

I agree with most of the comments, but anyone saying that Morecambe and Wise weren't funny needs to wash their mouth out. Their comedy has dated a little, but their Christmas shows were just brilliant.

I have seen Russell Howard and Bill Bailey live and they were brilliant. They don't need to swear or be crude to be funny. I love Billy Connolly, and Ross Noble used to be funny on panel shows. Milton Jones's one liners are funny on panel shows, but I would find a while evening of one liners a bit wearing.

Morcambe and Wise

😱

Whenever I've gone to see comedians live, the best bits are always when they're ad libbing. The scripted stuff is ok but it's less funny when you know they're saying the same stuff to a different audience each night.

I think the most offensive one I've ever seen is Reginald D Hunter, but I've watched some of his TV documentaries (one about the southern US for example) and he was a really good presenter.

I find most of the panel shows rather boring - Mock The Week is a willy-waving competition most of the time and often feels desperate rather than funny. I imagine comedy's a cut-throat world and it's all a bit weird!

It would be interesting to see what comedians people also loved, to get a sense of that posters “humor”.

Lee Evans also hasn’t worked in about 15 years, strange so many people are bringing him up as if they can’t escape him. It’s also quite nasty those insulting his personal appearance but having hypohidrosis I know how awful people can be about sweating.

James Acaster doesn’t do incel comedy either so strange a poster said that.

I’m also surprised so many people are saying McIntyre. They’re correct, it’s just he’s often Lauded on MN as being the pinnacle of comedy. He’s something for lobotomised people imo.

Miranda, I genuinely don’t know if she is a comedian or a comedic actress but she can’t do either.

Jack Whitehall “ohh I’m so posh and had a vaguely abusive childhood isn’t it hilarrrrr” no, you’re a grown up now.

Rob Beckett. Tbf I used to think he was funny, and it’s not really his comedy as I still do when I see him on TV. He has very “oi oi look how working class I am” personality traits about him, but he is so fucking far removed from that now it leaves a sour taste in my mouth as he doesn’t come across as genuine anymore. I can’t listen to him on his podcast anymore crying about his diamond shoes being too tight.

I used to not get Stewart Lee at all and then saw him live at a comedy night and he was properly funny. A great delivery and cleverly woven story with some proper belly laugh bits. I was very surprised.

I love Stewart Lee but he's very Marmite

daffodilandtulip · 06/10/2023 08:14

Haha

Ohyoudodoyou · 06/10/2023 08:15

Most are very unfunny, I try to watch videos to keep up however..
Women, I want to see
More funny women but...
Jo Caulfield
Sooz Kempner
Sarah millican
(I miss Caroline Aherne so much!)
Men
Most of them especially
Stewart Lee
Michael McIntyre

Actually too many to mention. Comedy has become diluted now and po-faced.
I still think 'the aristocrats' was one of the funniest comedy I've ever seen.

I watched Bilal Zafar 'cake' and thought it was brilliant (a little scary) but very funny.

RampantIvy · 06/10/2023 08:18

I think comedians are very different live to how they present on TV. I dislike it when comedians feel they have to be crude to get a cheap laugh. I really dislike Frankie Boyle because of this. I like intelligent humour and that's why I like Bill Bailey. He doesn't have to resort to swearing or being crude to get a laugh.

I don't recall Russell Howard being crude in the two live shows I saw him in. I saw Mike Harding many years ago and nearly wet myself laughing. And the late Victoria Wood was just utterly brilliant.

WogansHen · 06/10/2023 08:22

David Baddiel
I saw him in 1994 with Rob Newman. They each did a solo bit, Rob was hilarious, David totally misjudged the audience and there was literally silence when 'jokes' were uncomfortable.
When the video came out, there was a load of fake laughter cranked up for Baddiel. Never managed to get past that.

whenlifegivesyou · 06/10/2023 08:22

Lenny Henry

Sidebeforeself · 06/10/2023 08:23

If anyone mentions Victoria Wood as being unfunny I will run stark bollock naked in fronT OF Buckingham Palace

RampantIvy · 06/10/2023 08:28

I'll join you @Sidebeforeself

millypeggyandpandora · 06/10/2023 08:31

I agree with Pp Katherine Ryan is really not funny. I saw her live and was just bored.

Ohmylovejune · 06/10/2023 08:32

Quite a few I like on mainstream but once they go on stage they seem to ramp it up, and it's no longer funny.

PermanentTemporary · 06/10/2023 08:32

I can't stand panel shows so don't get to watch much comedy any more. I end up watching clips of proper sketches on Saturday Night Live which at least means I get to see Kate McKinnon and Lesley Jones who both make me laugh like drains, plus Tina Fey from a few years back. I miss sketches.

A lot of comedy now just looks very underdeveloped to me, like it was knocked out in a panel show writing room.... I'd like to see Frank Skinner live, I think he's got proper funny bones.

Oh I forgot, Kenny Henry has never been funny … at all. Dawn French however is really funny on tv, her books aren’t funny though
