Today my 3 year old seemed like the cleverest child in the world

I know everyone feels like that but today he took the biscuit Grin

He's registered blind (but does have some vision like lots of people who are registered blind), he can't sit unaided, he can't walk and he doesn't talk, he doesn't hold toys and he struggles to hold his head up a lot of the time but today he was shown a new communication aid. We recorded lines of one of his favourite nursery rhymes on to it and every time he press the switch one line was recited back to him. He figured out really quickly how to use the switch and was so, so, SO pleased with himself. All the therapists in the room clapped him when he was done.

He absolutely loves music and songs and I am hoping that his love of music will be the key that unlocks his communication and being able to make choices for himself.

AMAZING 🤩

I work with pupils with send. The biggest thing o always want for them is to be able to communicate and get their news met.

He is the cleverest boy. What an amazing achievement to be able to use that switch.

Just lovely, thanks so much for sharing. Your heart must be bursting with pride. And I am waving to you as the mother of a teen who is registered blind and has multiple other disabilities. 👋

Gorgeous post!!

Delighted for you - what a wonder he is!! 🥰

Singleandproud · 05/10/2023 21:09

What a lovely story. If he can press a switch could he be supported sitting and use an electric keyboard. You can get some small light ones that would be perfect and he'd probably love bashing the keys (you might not like it once the novelty wears off though).

This thread is very happiness inducing. You sound like an awesome Mum and he is a bright little spark. His intelligence will make communication much easier. I say that as someone severely deaf from birth so I’m not meaning to be patronising. Communication is everything and it’s fantastic you’re so focused on helping him in any way possible. I’m sure he will achieve whatever he wishes to in the future.

Cocolapew · 05/10/2023 21:11
