Car insurance: is yours higher or lower than last year?

For the same policy.
Because I don't really understand what is going on with mine!

Last year I paid £299 full comp.

Then DD passed her test and I put her on for 6 months, which added £50 to the price - which was a lot lower than I expected at the time.

This year they wanted £750 for the renewal.

DD has gone to uni so I went online to take her off my policy and it dropped....

To £191!

Mine more than doubled. No claims, same car, same address etc.
£360 last year, £850 this. And then I had to pay in instalments because it came in so high which has cost me an extra £100 in interest. Money grabbing fuckers.

Would the people who's quotes are similar or not risen let us know the names ?

Mines gone up from £345 to £478 for no reason. I've got 30+ years no claims .
This is with aviva.

Mine was just £11 ish. I'm with Churchill. Maximum NCB, no claims or convictions

carbon60 · 04/10/2023 20:38

Mine went up 70%,so I checked the comparison sites which were all pretty high too. I rang them and got £50 off, on a par with all the other quotes. I'd say it's worth ringing , they just hope you won't notice.

Mine went up from £157 to £159 - Halifax, pleasantly surprised. I usually "shop around" each year but let it auto renew this time. I am an old bird with a small dull car btw.

MetaMette · 04/10/2023 20:52

Paid £500 last year, renewal was £1330, managed to get it down to £750

Driving 25+ years, 13 years no claims

coffeeoffee · 04/10/2023 20:57

Yep we’re paying £30 more a month. 400 ish more for the year. 2 cars. Couldn’t get it cheaper.

Peacendkindness · 04/10/2023 21:02

Mine went down but I shopped around

Doggymummar · 04/10/2023 21:03

It's always about the same £200 this year I got AA home start as well for £206

NotSuchASmugMarried · 04/10/2023 21:04

Whattheduck · 04/10/2023 19:53

My renewal quote was nearly £500 more than the previous year been with them for years no claims so shopped around and changed insurers and am paying less than last year

Same with me.

Adviceplease2314 · 04/10/2023 21:06

Big jump from around £400 to £750. Got it for about £500 on price comparison site. Had the windscreen replaced due to a chip but over 17 years no claims!

POTC · 04/10/2023 21:07

@BarbaraofSeville we've used Veygo for temporary insurance on the odd occasion that either my son or I needed to use the other one's car. Really easy to do online and goes from an hour at a time to 3 months, much more cost effective for those very few times it's really necessary

I was with the co-op but now with the post office

Sonolanona · 04/10/2023 21:09

Higher, even though I'm mid 50s and have not claimed for many years.

I flounced and went to a local insurer who managed to get me slightly better cover for slightly less money and was very helpful, unlike Direct Line who just bleated ' it's the cost of living crisis' at me while they hoiked the price massively!

The post office do car insurance... you learn something new every day 😁

Pearbear · 04/10/2023 21:41

Mines gone up from £600 to £950 with no changes at all from last year. My renewal was the cheapest quote I could find after shopping around. So frustrating that after 11 years of driving I’m still paying ridiculous insurance costs.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 04/10/2023 21:49

Down from £60 a month to £34

Summertime16 · 04/10/2023 21:55

Somehow mines gone down at renewal from £520 to £400 with Aviva. Everything is the same no claims etc. however on comparison sites it starts from £600 plus. I’ve stated with Aviva as I was anticipating a hefty rise

Thanks, it's certainly worth considering doing that, especially as DP is self employed and worst case scenario is he loses a contract if he can't get there when he needs to but if it came to it, I can manage without a car as I can WFH or get a pool car from work if I need to visit clients.

sanityisamyth · 04/10/2023 21:56

Much higher. Pretty much double. Not sure why!

This is with aviva.

Insured with Aviva but arranged through a broker (A plan insurance). I have a pick up truck which makes getting insurance harder and paid 550 for the year (same as last year)

KevinTurveyIsMissed · 04/10/2023 23:13

Up £1,500 to £4,500, despite yet another year with no claims.

DH nuts and sells cars often enough that he could possibly get a trade policy so he’s looking into whether this would be better.

mondaytosunday · 04/10/2023 23:26

Renewal was higher so switched. Never had a claim.
My son had a sky high premium on his motorcycle as he'd claimed for an accident two years before (oddly it didn't seem to affect his insurance the first year after) but this year it was half that with another insurer.

Svet19 · 04/10/2023 23:29

Mine increased by £53, my DH's reduced by £1(no joke)... Both NCB of over 10 yrs each....

PlumpAndGrump · 04/10/2023 23:30

Tallisimo · 04/10/2023 02:19

My renewal cost has gone up £150. In spite of 10 years no claims.I shall be hunting around for something cheaper.

Same here. With Admiral for years, 10 years no claims and up the same amount as yours despite no changes to vehicles or drivers details or points etc. so frustrating
