Possibly. Have you got a tick remover?

Tickite · 03/10/2023 22:57

I do I have this one but it was too small even for the small side. It was really close to the skin and fully stuck to it.

I ended up hacking at it with tweezers knowing you shouldn't but I was too freaked out to have it on my leg any longer 😥I'm kicking myself now

Hmm doesn't look like one to me... usually they are greyish.( My cat used to collect tics and I once woke up with attached to me... git of a cat!)
Looks more like a blood blister or a mole that needs checking!

Initially I thought yes but I agree with @Sonolanona, looks more like a spot of dried blood. Have you caught your leg on a bramble or rose?

Tickite · 03/10/2023 23:01

@Sonolanona yes i did think blood blister if not a tick. Trying to remove it was near impossible even with tweezers, it felt totally fused to my leg and like I had to break skin to get it out, so maybe a blood blister. I did examine the remains afterwards and it didn't look like much at all.

It could have been tick remains I suppose but I couldn't see any legs. But if it was a nymph then maybe the legs wouldn't be visible.

I wonder if there are nymphs at this time of year?

Looks like a mole to me - what happened when you tweezered it?

Tickite · 03/10/2023 23:10

@NannyR as above it was near impossible to tweezer and did feel like i had to break skin. Then a couple of bits came off (See pic) with a bit of blood. Also attaching a pic of what it looks like now, and also showing the 'tick' from a different angle.

I did go to a park with deers this weekend for full disclosure but stuck to the path the whole time, no long grass at all. I think if it wasn't for that a tick wouldn't have crossed my mind.

Do you all think tick based on this new information?

Looks like a little scab. Doesn't look like a tick to me and we deal with them quite frequently.

TheFlis · 03/10/2023 23:12

It doesn’t look or sound like a tick, more like a scab or blood blister that has dried out.

QuestionableMouse · 03/10/2023 23:14

Not a tick imo.

SisterA · 03/10/2023 23:15

My 1 year old a tick in his neck at the weekend. It was tiiiiiny but still so obviously a tick. So I think if you’re doubting it (and by what you’ve said) then really unlikely to be a tick.

DontMakeMeShushYou · 03/10/2023 23:16

@Tickite

YES! YES! YES!

100% absolutely yes, that is a tick.

Try and remove it with your tick remover (I have that one which works OK on larger ticks but yours might be too small. Failing that, go to your nearest urgent care/minor injuries unit and they'll probably remove it for you.

Tickite · 03/10/2023 23:17

Thank you for the reassurance, I've never dealt with them so it's hard to know. Ready for a full inspection of the DC tomorrow morning though just in case. @SisterA was your child's tick big enough for a tick remover or how did you manage to get rid of it?

anunlikelyseahorse · 03/10/2023 23:17

It doesn't look very nymph/ tick like, but the photos aren't great. Did you pull it off your skin? Have you got a magnifying glass or telescope you can put it under? Is there a hole now in your skin? So many questions! Draw a circle where it was, keep an eye out for any redness, if it doesn't heal go to a GP. Maybe hold on to the scabby thing for a while, just in case there is any issue...it's unlikely, but it's really hard to tell from the photos. You can get different types of tick, so it might be a deer tick, which are different from the grey ones, but definitely keep a close eye on the area.

This - whenever I've had a tick it has looked unmistakably like an insect when looked at close up.

anunlikelyseahorse · 03/10/2023 23:19

Just seen your update, and photos, it still doesn't look like a tick, even as nymphs the legs are visible (tiny but possible to see with the naked eye, are there any legs?)

Custardpudding · 03/10/2023 23:22

My dog had one and I saw it’s legs wriggle
look for videos on YouTube how to get it off with a remover

Tickite · 03/10/2023 23:23

Definitely no legs visible to the naked eye, and certainly not wriggly ones! It looked like a perfect circle almost like a sharpie mark. It just looked black which threw me but then on the picture it does actually look more blood coloured than black.

No real hole in the skin but more like a pinprick, like when you pick a spot or pull out an ingrown hair, but even smaller than that.

@DontMakeMeShushYou you have me worried again. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on any symptoms over the next few days/weeks.

How much have I messed up by destroying it rather than pulling out properly of it is a tick? I'm an idiot.

Edited

Just keep an eye on symptoms, and keep an eye on your leg for any signs of infection/bullseye rash. You're almost certainly OK.

I didn't mean to worry you. I've removed 2 from myself and 3 from my daughter over the last couple of years though so do have a fair idea of what they look like.

SlipSlidinAway · 03/10/2023 23:33

Doesn't look at all like a tick to me. Would have said mole if it hadn't just appeared. Blood blister seems most likely.

DontMakeMeShushYou · 03/10/2023 23:34

This was my most recent friend. You can see the legs clearly but I still think that's what yours was

DontMakeMeShushYou · 03/10/2023 23:38

If it was just a pin prick of dried blood, it will dissolve in water so that might put your mind at rest.

CherryBlossom321 · 03/10/2023 23:41

I pulled three out of my daughter in early summer with tweezers, and your description of tricky removal involving parts and blood rings true. This was following a visit to a woodland (same day) in Cumbria. They were kind of a deep red - because they were enjoying a huge meal. I kept an eye for several weeks for the bullseye rash just in case. She’s fine. But they did look like your pictures.
