Ears pierced

purpleme12 · 03/10/2023 19:07

We are just over 2 months on from getting my child's ears pierced.
Have just taken them out and put different ones in
One ear is not as good as the other ear. It's not really bad, just not perfect like the other ear.
So is she ok sleeping without earrings in now?
They won't close up?
When I've slept in my earrings before they've come out and I've lost them so don't want that to happen

They’ll probably close up after only 2 months per pretty sure we were told leave them in for at least 12 weeks. DD’s had hers done over a year now and will start to close up if she’s had them out a few hours.

Oh shit.
So should I put her original earrings back in and make her sleep in them? Is that the best thing to do?

They will definitely start to close up. Dd's have been in 10 weeks and still close up during a pe day at school.

Are you ensuring they are cleaned properly? The advice and instructions we were given when dd had hers done was abysmal. She has a mild infection as a result which I am treating at home.

If you want to encourage them to heal i strongly suggest cleaning twice a day with surgical spirit. If there is a mild infection (only guessing from your description) try and take out the earing, clean it thoroughly, clean the ear and then out back in.

Dd's have healed more in a week doing this than in the 9 weeks previously with the crap stuff we were given by the piercer!

We have got Neilmed neilcleanse spray which is saline solution it says. Her dad got that one as he uses it for his piercings.

Have you got something different? What have you got?

It doesn't look bad enough to be an infection to be honest.

So basically I should put her original earrings back in each night?

We were sold studex 2 in 1 cleaner and honestly it's rubbish.

Put her original earrings in and leave them in, they are designed for a purpose!

How long should I leave them in for?

Already left them in for longer than we thought which is why I thought I'd be ok.

Put the earrings back in, don’t twist them, you don’t need to and just use saline solution to clean

The one I've mentioned isn't the we were given. That's the one we got ourselves which is supposed to be good apparently

Til they heal fully.

I have been taking dd's out daily and cleaning thoroughly with surgical spirit to help the skin dry out and harden as I say and they are finally starting to heal.

Guessguess · 03/10/2023 19:38

I left my daughters in for 6 months before changing them and even then I never left them out overnight

teraculum29 · 03/10/2023 19:42

We were given Caflon Natural Solution, and to clean and twist studs twice a day.
Week 8 started and so far there was no infection (finger x) or any other problems.
And on PE days she needs tape them over.

She's not twisting. She was originally but her dad read you're not supposed to so she stopped doing that

It is saline spray we've got

Oh wow.
I didn't expect this
But I don't know, maybe this is best then?

I had my ears pierced recently. I was told to leave the original ones in for 8 weeks. Then for at least 6 months to keeps earrings in at all times or they would close up. It was recommended to only use titanium, silver, or 14carat gold posts until they are fully healed to prevent irritation.

purpleme12 · 03/10/2023 19:56

I really thought it would be better healed than this by now.

Any other comments/experiences/advice about ears that haven't healed yet are welcome.

JustPiercedAug · 03/10/2023 20:06

Why do you need more people to say the same thing? The body is designed to heal itself. No piercer ever says you can leave studs out after just 8 weeks! It just doesn't work that way! If the hole looks irritated or inflamed, clean with recommended cleaner or salt water and put the original studs back in. Make sure you've cleaned them too. Then leave them alone! If they aren't irritated you can put others in, but don't keep messing around with them. It's not rocket science.

purpleme12 · 03/10/2023 20:09

Right. There isn't any need for the attitude

Gizlotsmum · 03/10/2023 20:12

As others have said. We have been told it can take 6 months to fully heal. Bar was downsized after 1 month, but recommend not to remove at all for at least 3 months. Daughter has to take hers out for pe and even in that time they can begin to close. She has a pair she can put back in easily and is managing but it isn’t recommended. Don’t twist clean with salt water or in the shower, make sure dried fully, don’t twist.

Just sounded a bit like you were asking the same question and expecting a different answer 🤷‍♀️

Jellycats4life · 03/10/2023 20:14

It’s a lie that ear piercings heal within six weeks. Mainly peddled by Claire’s Accessories I think.

There’s no need to take them out for sleeping. I’ve never had an issue with earrings falling out during the night. It’s best to interfere with them as little as possible until they’re full healed, which is going to take 6-12 months in my experience.

ToussaintTheChef · 03/10/2023 20:18

Lobes take around 4 months to heal.

ToussaintTheChef · 03/10/2023 20:18

Up to 6 though.

this is normal.

kerrywhatKERRYWHAAAT · 03/10/2023 20:28

I had my second lobes and 2 helix done 2 months ago.
With a gun originally, didn't go well, I had to go to a proper piercer to get them fixed with a needle. One had to come out completely.
She's told me to spray with neilmed once a day dry gently with clean tissue, and not to touch them.
I wouldn't be changing the jewellery after 2 months. You need to just leave them alone. I would also make sure the jewellery shes been pierced with is decent titanium or gold (and doesn't contain nickel).
That was the issue for me, pierced with a gun and crappy jewellery was used.

midnightblue12 · 03/10/2023 21:01

I would avoid changing them often in the first early few months. I know it's exciting for your daughter, but it's just going to add to the irritation.
I think you could definitely move onto a new pair but I wouldn't be changing them every night. Just get a good quality second pair.
My nose psi ring got infected once. My face throbbed, nose red and angry. She'll know if there's an infection! I had to get antibiotics from the gp.
My ears always get angry when I change earrings and settle after a couple days... even all these years later!

Girlwithapple · 03/10/2023 21:13

Neilimed is the saline solution the top piercers use so definitely carry on with that and ensure they are dried thoroughly after cleaning. As others have said, lobes take longer than 2 months to heal - even though some piercing places suggest otherwise!
