It's a wheelie bin!

NorthCliffs · 03/10/2023 05:35

Kitchen bin. Sorted.

fearfuloffluff · 03/10/2023 05:52

Nappy bins wrap a plastic nappy in extra plastic so you can have a bin full of piss and shit in your house. Or you could step outside to use your actual bin.

Agree, get it out otherwise no matter what expensive bin you buy your house will reek with ammonia.

If cloth napping then use a netted bag because this can just be lobbed into the wash on a daily basis

specialk9 · 03/10/2023 06:02

Awful things. Absolutely stink.

I don't like to put nappies in our kitchen bin and the walk to our wheelie is back of garden, along the back of 1 house and across a car park!

I bought a small discreet caddy bin that's sits by the back door and they go straight in there. Then chuck them in the bin bag that gets taken out every couple of days. No extra plastic, no smells in the house and not far to walk.

Caspianberg · 03/10/2023 06:09

We used a brabantia basic 16L plastic square style for our washable nappies. The tots bots nappy net fit perfectly and it was a size to empty into wash every other day.

If you have disposable you could get same bin but they have even smaller ones so you can just add a couple max ie overnight before taking our to main bin. The 6L is probably plenty. They are a solid simply plastic so can wash out easily

Sort & Go Waste Bin 6 litre - Fir Green

This cute 6 litre Brabantia Sort & Go Recycle Bin with stay-open lid is great for peels, scraps, leftovers... all organic kitchen-waste actually. Just put it on your worktop, in a drawer or hang it on the wall with its included wall bracket. Full? Grab...

Are people really going out to the outside bin for every nappy change? Even if it’s 3am and pissing with rain? I’m also not a fan of the kitchen bin as you don’t want to smell last night’s nappy as you’re making your morning coffee. We had a Diaper Genie. It was taken out daily, any less frequently and it does get grim. Any bin will do though, the idea of a ‘nappy bin’ is just that it’s a separate one to the kitchen, not that you have to buy any specific brand.

ViaRia01 · 03/10/2023 06:24

I have tommee tippee twist and click one. Don’t like it though as I find it a faff to change the liner and it does begin to smell bad quite quickly. Friends with the angelcare bin don’t seem to share my frustration so I’d suggest that you take a look there

JugglingJanuary · 03/10/2023 06:29

@floranginajelly I knew that you'd get these replies. The assumption that everyone lives in a house just like theirs & can just pop each individual nappy into an outside bin, easily.

when we lived in a town house & the baby was on the top floor, no, I wasn't 'nipping down' with a single nappy at 2am!

people living in flats on the 8th floor aren't either.

nor people with reduced mobility.

As for people putting them
in the kitchen bin 🤮

we unused to have the TommyTippy & it was pretty good. So if I had to go out & buy one today, I'd go and get the medium sized TT twist & spin.

JugglingJanuary · 03/10/2023 06:37

@floranginajelly reading what @ViaRia01 has said, maybe they're not the best anymore the Angelcare might be better.

@InTheRainOnATrain yep, you can use any bin, but the nappy units put it in a nappy bag & twist the bag to seal the smell in. Yes it's more plastic, but it's only using a nappy bag as people using disposable nappies generally do anyway.

it's very resource heavy to use cloth nappies, so people on that high horse, can get off it.

there's no perfect solution.

AutumnLea · 03/10/2023 06:49

I had an Angelcare, very easy to use, no complaints.

Devilsmommy · 03/10/2023 06:58

Tommee tippee twist n click. In my kitchen. No smell.

FoxtrotSkarloey · 03/10/2023 06:58

Standard nappy sacks. You get four or five nappies in one sack (decreases as kids get older and nappies get bigger) so you use less plastic than a nappy bin. Take them out to the wheelie bin morning and evening before they smell.

ViaRia01 · 03/10/2023 07:48

I find the worst impact of nappy bins from an environmental perspective isn’t the plastic liners themselves but the hard plastic cassettes that the liners come in - those seem particularly wasteful and difficult to dispose of.

you can get cassette refills from Amazon. I’ve tried a few and I prefer the “alphen” brand.

Sleepygrumpyandnothappy · 03/10/2023 07:53

Angelcare. It honestly doesn’t smell. Yes I know the plastic use is appalling but as with our decision to use disposals, we’ve unashamedly prioritised convenience.

No, we dropped them just outside the back door. But not everyone has that.

SnapdragonToadflax · 03/10/2023 08:01

We also used the Tommee Tippee one. It was fine, it does need emptying quite often and especially in summer 🤮 but it does the job.

Our outside bin is in a car park, I was not going to leave a baby in the house on their own 10 times a day to take the nappy out there!

GlitteryGreen · 03/10/2023 08:04

Tommy Tippee one here too, although tbh we now just use it with normal nappy bags as the actual refill are quite expensive. It does get smelly but it's fine when it's closed, only get the whiff when you open it to put one in.

Aliceinwonderlandx · 03/10/2023 08:05

I have twins, and a tommee tippee twist and click, one upstairs and one downstairs.

I empty them both every morning, no smell until you pop the lid off to empty it. In summer I sometimes emptied them twice a day.

I love them, I'd be going the outside bin up to 20 times a day without them!!

I have the cassettes on amazon subscribe and save. If you add them to your amazon baby list then buy from there, you can get 15% off the first few. The bin was a free gift on the baby list too, so worth a look.

Boymum2104 · 03/10/2023 08:12

Unfortunately in a block of flats there's no way of quickly popping to the outside bin with a baby.. we use tommee tippee twist & click buy with cheaper Amazon eco refills, no complaints does the job!

RecklessBlackberries · 03/10/2023 08:34

We have a dustbin in the garden and just put all the nappies in a nappy bag and put it out there straight away. Then once a fortnight it gets put in the black bin when it's collected.

Anothernamechangeee · 03/10/2023 08:38

Cheeesus · 03/10/2023 07:59

How is dropping a pile of nappies outside the back door better than using a bin?!

I was hoping that poster meant their wheely bin is right outside the back door! Otherwise you’re attracting vermin.

At 3am it’s better than leaving it in your kitchen bin. It was for us anyway.
