That’s… actually crazy.

In what way? What would you do? Go to the wheelie bin at 3am or leave it in your house? I wasn’t a fan of either option. It worked for us, never had one disappear by the morning.

What would you do?! Buy a bloody nappy bin that’s what! It’s the perfect solution that avoids- a stinky kitchen, going outside in the middle of the night or dumping them loose on your doorstep.

It worked fine, why would we want a massive bit of equipment when it was fine to occasionally have a single, wrapped nappy on the back door step for three hours?

But anyway, this isn’t much use to the OP who has decided she wants one. So let’s leave it there.

I would buy a bin…. And put them in there…

instead of having something that attracts pests and vermin. I honestly cannot believe that your best thought on where to put something for the bin was on the back step instead of in the bin 😆

ColleenDonaghy · 03/10/2023 09:22

We had a Tommy tippee one upstairs and downstairs just had a normal pedal bin in the utility by the back door.

Once weaning, dirty nappies went straight out into the wheelie bin.

No smell problems.

I have tommee tippee twist and click one. Don’t like it though as I find it a faff to change the liner and it does begin to smell bad quite quickly. Friends with the angelcare bin don’t seem to share my frustration so I’d suggest that you take a look there

Thanks

Yeah, the plastic cassettes are a bit of a problem but I think the hygiene element is a fair trade off
IME any bag dropped outside the door would be torn open by wildlife

I got the Tommy Tippee one - the bin itself was very cheap second hand, but the inserts were very expensive. In the end we still used the bin, but just tied the nappies up in the normal cheap bags. And no, we didn't empty it every day. No problems with smells.

BarnacleBeasley · 03/10/2023 09:39

You can get refillable cassettes for the Tommy Tippee one now. It's a bit faffy but fine once you get the hang of it. And the eco-refills are still not perfect but a bit more sustainable than normal plastic (I tell myself). We use cloth nappies and just use the bin for the pooey paper liners, so I feel I've already saved some plastic waste there.

AdrianeMole · 03/10/2023 09:43

We have the Tomme Tippee twisty one and it's great, although we are not weaning yet so our nappies dont smell to bad yet. Its not hard to use once you work out how it works

SleepingStandingUp · 03/10/2023 09:44

We had the tommee tippy one. No way was I traipsing outside on the middle of the night after a bum change at 3 am, or expecting DH to.
Twins so it filled quickly and got emptied daily. Didn't smell because you're literally sealing the smell up.
Not environmentally friendly tho.

SleepingStandingUp · 03/10/2023 09:45

Cheeesus · 03/10/2023 08:53

At 3am it’s better than leaving it in your kitchen bin. It was for us anyway.

Hello vermin.... sounds like a recipe for disaster

We have a dustbin in the garden and just put all the nappies in a nappy bag and put it out there straight away. Then once a fortnight it gets put in the black bin when it's collected.

How big is your bin that it lasts a fortnight?? Altho my twins were massive drinkers and wee-ers so I might be bias with my aghastness.

We stopped at friends in Wales which does a weekly nappy pick up, so stored in a bag in the bathroom until then. I was horrified how much our weekly nappy mountain was. Two in full nappies and a third in night nappies.

pacificoceanwhale · 03/10/2023 10:03

I wouldn't bother with one. Put the money towards something else. We just slung ours in the relevant waste bin. Kept wheelie bin close to the back door so as we could easily go out and dump any very stinky nappies starlight into the wheelie.

Singingintherain23 · 03/10/2023 10:16

I just put the nappy in a nappy bag and then in the kitchen bin 🤷‍♀️. Never had any problems with smells.

Mrburnshound · 03/10/2023 10:21

I had an angelcare when mine were tiny. It was a godsend as we lived in a flat and the main bins were the other side of the complex. I found the cheaper cassettes to be a false economy so bought branded ones.

I agree with the TT one stinking but I also have the angelcsre one and you have to push the nappy in and a couple of times ive had a pooey one explode as I'm pushing it. So I vote TT

Ahh so helpful thank you all
It's for a gift. 🤣

Two in nappies. We change upstairs. Wet nappies in a bathroom bin. Dirty nappies into wheelie bin immediately. The wet nappies get emptied with the dirty one or when we’re going out of the house. It’s not a big deal going to the wheelie bin as not too far from our door. Beyond the first few weeks middle of the night nappy changes are rare.

FWIW I used to live abroad and emptying the bins daily (or multiple times a day) was normal, and we lived in an apartment block. So I don’t consider it a massive trial.

eta when we had only one in nappies we used cloth and kept the nappy bin (with lid) in the toilet. Washed every other day. Never had a problem with smells.

NutellaNut · 05/10/2023 07:44

Don’t bother with a separate twist and click bin thing. We had one, utter waste of time and money and soon stopped bothering with it. Just get nappy sacks and stick them in the wheelie bin.

Remmy123 · 05/10/2023 07:58

Just put in the kitchen bin etc no need for a nappy bin - did that with first born total waste of money
