I did one of those “look something up without knowing it could mean something else” things..

Very dull amazon search for a liner for my airfryer. The one recommended to me doesn’t fit the kind I have, but has nodules/longish protruberances/bits sticking out, so the food isn’t sitting in any juice/oil.

So I typed in “air fryer liner silicone… tentacles”?! no, I don’t know why. But there you go. Apparently some women like (or designers think that women like) sex toys shaped/patterned to look like octopus tentacles.

What a start to the weekend.

I Goggled it as well. 😳Now I have to see the scarlet dahlias!

In the Gardening sub-forum, nice thread called ‘Show us your photos’ or something — a lot of graphic photos of dahlias and cannas!

@CurlewKate — now you have to say which fandom! I was LOTR RPS a bazillion years ago.

(From my vague and slightly wincing memories, the tentacle-type story involved Legolas getting intimate with a tree in Mirkwood or somewhere.)

This is why I will never take the parental controls off my router. Never mind the kids, it keeps me safe too 😁.

olderthanyouthink · 30/09/2023 12:46

Yeah dragon butter is just a Welsh butter company now?!

Tilllly · 30/09/2023 12:55

My friends dwarf hamster had an anal prolapse
She googled....

There's a very niche market out there and she's scarred for life 🤣

I signed up for eBay in 2005.

Children were excited. Daughter was 7 and son was 10.

I was sat in front of the computer with daughter on my knee and son with his arm around me as we looked on eBay.

I said they could choose some sweets to start off with.

We looked at hundreds of sweets.

Then my daughter said, "What about you, Mummy?"

My son says, 'Mum likes liquorice."

I duly typed in liquorice into the search bar.

Up popped lots and lots of auctions.

For liquorice BUTT PLUGS.

Good grief! My son had read the auction titled and whilst he didn't know what they were the word BUTT a was enough to set him off laughing.

I frantically hammered in the keyboard trying to backspace/switch off but the keyboard locked and the page was frozen and the children were laughing hysterically at me trying to shut the computer down!

I'm very careful when searching for liquorice nowadays!

Yeah dragon butter is just a Welsh butter company now?!

I thought it was truffle butter? Is that the same thing?

Or maybe that’s a separate thing people should google with caution.

CurlewKate · 30/09/2023 14:52

@PicturesOfDogs Try without the space. Or maybe not.

ohsuzannah · 30/09/2023 16:08

When I first got a pc back in the day, I typed in a search for Queeen ( the band)
Up popped pages of porn, I'd never seen it before! The more I panicked and clicked, the more windows opened 😂
I could hear my dd 12 approaching so I turned the computer off. I got told off for not shutting it down properly 😐

Wanttobekind · 30/09/2023 16:14

I thought my 3 yr old just found a new YouTube programme so I googled it to see if it was ok… snail trails have a range of meanings, it turns out…

LalalaIcanthearyouO · 30/09/2023 17:22

For those of us that aren’t going to Google Dragonbutter can you please explain what it is? In code if needed. 😆

Many years ago. Da was 7. Early days of the internet, still on dial up. And we came home from the group that kids who aren't old enough yet to attend cubs and he reached up stairs to google Beavers. Oh my gosh I have never run up the stairs so fast in my life.

Well, it’s not exactly a new thing, OP. That famous Hokusai print ‘Dream of the Fisherman’s Wife’ (of a woman and two octopuses (octopi?) getting it on) is from 1814. And the translation of the text (what the octopuses and the woman are supposedly thinking) is pretty graphic…

Think its octopodes ... the plural of octopus

CakeInAJar · 30/09/2023 12:11

I’ve just googled dragon butter and all I can see is actual butter from Wales being advertised

You are lucky then! Dont google further! I did and regret.

LemonPeonies · 30/09/2023 22:11

Placemarking for now

RumNotRun · 30/09/2023 22:27

Just to be that nerd, the plural of octopus is octopuses. Octopi is incorrect as the pi ending is Latin but octopus originates from Greek (it's a Latinised form of a Greek word) so wouldn't be pluralised that way. Octopodes would work as it's the Greek plural form but as octopus technically isn't a Greek word then octopuses is the correct plural. Ahem. Carry on, as you were, please feel free to ignore me.

I once tried looking up a book I had as a little girl. I thought it was called "She Wanted a Pony" and put that into Google.

I did not get what I was looking for AT ALL.

I remember a book with that title or something similar. Add 'book' to your search and you may have more luck! Here's some info, there are second hand copies on eBay etc.

I once (20 years ago) googled flower girl dresses. That wasn't what I got, or at least not on flower girls.

IntoDeepBlueSea · 01/10/2023 01:59

@RumNotRun - in this family we’ve always gone with 1 octopus, 2 octopus, as with sheep. You can blame Octonauts for us actually having to tackle this grammar issue… I’m very pleased to hear it’s octopuses, because I also like saying sheeps (and fishs).

The other thing (now we’re well over the TMI line, and far the other side) was a TEMU advert that turned up in my SM feed… I suppose because I’d been looking up shower things, such as soap dishes that can be attached to the shower wall etc (my life is a riot). For some reason they thought I should take this all to a new level with… “attachments” that can be suctioned to the wall of your shower, so that you can enjoy them. I assumed it was some kind of dildo, but maybe it was a plug. I was just slightly askance to find it in the middle of my fb page between Auntie Ethel’s 70th birthday photos, and an amusing puppy reel…

HmmGrin

I had an art assignment at college to study the technique ‘Frottage’ I learned very quickly not to google that word.

LargeSquareRock · 01/10/2023 02:30

There is a massive sub genre of erotic fiction about tentacle sex. I innocently found it on Goodreads one day and ever since then the recommendations that are thrown at me are disturbing.
