I did one of those “look something up without knowing it could mean something else” things..

Very dull amazon search for a liner for my airfryer. The one recommended to me doesn’t fit the kind I have, but has nodules/longish protruberances/bits sticking out, so the food isn’t sitting in any juice/oil.

So I typed in “air fryer liner silicone… tentacles”?! no, I don’t know why. But there you go. Apparently some women like (or designers think that women like) sex toys shaped/patterned to look like octopus tentacles.

What a start to the weekend.

This reminds me of the time my male best friend was going to decorate my Nemo themed nursery. Typed in the baby turtle's name into Google without safe search on. I'm not sure who was most shocked!

Well, it’s not exactly a new thing, OP. That famous Hokusai print ‘Dream of the Fisherman’s Wife’ (of a woman and two octopuses (octopi?) getting it on) is from 1814. And the translation of the text (what the octopuses and the woman are supposedly thinking) is pretty graphic…

I have to say, I didn’t realise there was text to go with that.. but after a Google.. golly.

Several years ago I wanted some sort of edging to put round my lawn. Instead of googling 'garden edging' I just googled 'edging'. Found out something I never wanted to know. I was using a work computer so had to go to my boss and explain what I had done before Head Office started asking questions.

I am wrong — the ‘sensitive content’ photo was of a pair of scarlet cannas. I have zero idea what would have triggered the warning. Does red translate into ‘likely wound’ for the algorithm? Or it thought gardeners with less splendid cannas would be triggered?

When I was at school I googled a band I liked. They'd just changed their name so I decided to also search on the previous name. My search got blocked by the firewall and the Head of Year ended up having a talk with me. The band's previous name was Manhole.

I was pissed off that I couldn’t book a ticket for a band I liked on our university network. Can’t think why their firewall had an issue with Barenaked Ladies 😂

Not only am I aware of it, I was a BNF back in the day in an (I assume long-defunct) fandom. Back in the Livejournal era.

(Which, come to think of it, did have one or two not-quite-tentacle porn stories…)

Were you/are you involved? I lost touch completely with that whole world, other than a vague sense it’s all moved to other platforms. I think something mentioned on here once got me, when insomniac, on a site with House of Commons slash, which was way more eye-opening than anything octopus-related…

I am trying to write some for a challenge in my own fandom-which I am too embarrassed to identify because my thing is mushy domestic fade-to-black!

Well, I wasn’t posting a photo, as I was on a gardening thread earlier, where people post photos of their gardens, and one photo was obscured and labelled ‘Sensitive content’ (and turned out to be of a couple of scarlet dahlias!), so I thought the platform might shut down in shock if someone posted an image of octopus cunnilingus, even if it’s also a famous 19thc Japanese artwork…
