I know, I know but its Pulp, my favourite band ever and I think with all my health issues I should go. Ive never liked New Year but my dad was proud to be from Edinburgh and I do have some lovely memories of the place. This is nuts, isnt it?

What kind of accommodation? How many places have you tried?

EllaMaeve · 29/09/2023 11:24

Obviously very busy and very expensive.

Could you look at the train lines and stay ‘out’.

Routes into the borders, routes across to Glasgow with small towns, Livingstone for instance.

Last year, we looked at just parting all night and getting the first train on NYD back.

Travelodge, premier Inn there's a few we've used in Edinburgh and so easy to get to places

EachandEveryone · 29/09/2023 11:43

Premier inn is £600 for three nights might just have to suck it up or drop a night

I'm considering it too but I can't afford to stay, I'll just drive over and back and won't drink.

EachandEveryone · 29/09/2023 12:01

The trains from London are really cheap. I might price up the night one.

It won't help you that the Scottish Government has recently introduced a licensing scheme for AirBnB type properties so a lot of owners are no longer going to be offering house shares and if you don't have a license the reputable booking sites won't let you advertise. Offering accommodation during the Festival is exempt from the scheme but I don't think Hogmanay is.

As PP, it's cheaper if you stay out of town. Try the Premium Inn in Dalkeith. You'd be able to get a Nightbus back there from town.

LIZS · 29/09/2023 12:09

Where is the concert? You might be able to stay further out and ise trams etc. Accommodation in Edinburgh is expensive at the best of times.

Seryse · 29/09/2023 12:14

As a PP said try the Premier Inn at Dalkeith. They still have availability at a bit of a nicer cost than town center, but be warned a taxi from town centre - I'll post the screenshot for you (if you can get one on nye, its a shambles lol) is about £24 quid to mine (I live 2 mins from the premier inn). Another option if you aren't drinking is you could take the car and park m, hut will be a walk to get to it.

Seryse · 29/09/2023 12:14

Oh, nvm... just as I was taking rhe screenshot the rooms on nye sold out. Balls.

EachandEveryone · 29/09/2023 12:29

Livingston is very cheap ! Is there a reason for that? Is it a horrible journey home?

Lightsandtights · 29/09/2023 12:32

Come out of the city but in a direct train or bus route.

Look at Fife, anywhere on the borders train line, South Queensferryight be an option. Livingston is alright. What hotel and is transport near it?

Lightsandtights · 29/09/2023 12:36

Travelodge at Ratho is £90. That’s on a bus route in and out of the city.

I can also see the travelodge at Edinburgh park for a £109. That’s on a tram route direct into the city.

Travelodge Haymarket is £115 a night. You can walk from there.

The trains from London are really cheap. I might price up the night one.

Megabus will be even cheaper if it's running.
I use it a lot to get from Glasgow to London, I can sleep anywhere though so sleep all night, wake up in London, its great.
I'm happy to drive and not drink, it's under two hours from me, I do hate the cold but I'm desperate to see Pulp, missed them earlier in the year as couldn't make any of the dates fit with other plans.

Lightsandtights · 29/09/2023 12:39

Premier Inn South Queensferry is £102 a night. Bus into city or up the hill - steep hill for the train.

EachandEveryone · 29/09/2023 12:54

It is the tpremier inn livingston really cheap but i dont think theres transport ny

Not a good location. I think you’d need a car. Someone local might know different though.

Jellycatspyjamas · 29/09/2023 12:57

It depends on the train service for livingstone, public transport usually stops early on NYE so you might get into Edinburgh and not get out again. If you can afford it I’d suck up the price as a rare treat, or drive.

Jeevesnotwooster · 29/09/2023 12:59

Novotel at Edinburgh Park and get the tram in. It's running until the small hours

Seryse · 29/09/2023 13:03

EachandEveryone · 29/09/2023 12:54

Aye unless you drive, you're looking at about 100quid in a taxi to get to livingstone from the town centre on nye, and that's IF you can get a taxi, it genuinely gets manic trying ti get home and find a taxi.

iatealltheminieggs · 29/09/2023 13:04

There are 2 train stations for Livingston - Livingston North and Livingston South and neither are convenient for the Premier Inn. The main bus provider is pulling out in December so avoid at all costs if you do not have a car.

EachandEveryone · 29/09/2023 13:13

What about Melville dykes road, Dalkeith? Will that be a pain?

OP posts:
Jeevesnotwooster · 29/09/2023 13:15

Actually Novotel not that cheap. £269 for NYE. Sorry. But somewhere else on tram line?

EachandEveryone · 29/09/2023 13:16

Novotel is £800 per room for three nights its too much

Tighginn · 29/09/2023 13:17

Are you driving?
