Do most take dc to Lapland?

OP posts:
VisionsOfSplendour · 28/09/2023 20:00

You think most people go to Lapland? That's crazy, what kind of world si you live in?

SageRosemary · 28/09/2023 20:04

No.

But, one year we took our small DC to visit Santa at a farm at night time. They fell asleep in the car. It snowed. When they woke up there were fairy lights everywhere, a dusting of snow on everything and they thought they were at the North Pole. Magical! They loved the donkeys and helping Mrs. Claus to roll out the cookie dough and was Santa's underpants!

mfms · 28/09/2023 20:13

I have absolutely no intention to

EllaMaeve · 28/09/2023 20:16

I know friends and family who have.

  • A relative took his wife and two DC’s because his wife had a recent MS diagnosis and they were unsure if they could plan ahead and be able to manage a trip
  • A friend planned a 7 day break, flights, AirBnB, Christmas and snow stuff all booked seperately. Wasn't as expensive as the day trip.
  • Another friend took her mum and her teenage (16) daughter last year, for a weekend away.

North East/North Yorkshire and Scotland based.

Daisydovetail · 28/09/2023 20:23

We went last year and loved it. There’s a few in the school that have been that I know of but certainly not everyone goes, you must know this OP.

itsgettingweird · 28/09/2023 20:24

I don't think so.

I've taken ds for a day trip but I only know 1 other person who's been and they did a holiday there.

itsgettingweird · 28/09/2023 20:26

Oh and it wasn't twee or any of the other things described here.

For us it was a family trip (paid for) because of difficult circumstances.

They are treasured memories and ds was happy with Christ masses afterwards!

BarbaraofSeville · 28/09/2023 14:54

I've just looked and it looks like it would cost around £2.5-3k for a day trip for a family of 4 Shock

WHAT!

Poniesandrainbows · 28/09/2023 20:28

I did, I took my son and niece. I'm not sure I know anyone else that did.

Beezknees · 28/09/2023 20:29

I took DS nearly 10 years ago, but I don't know anyone else who has. It was brilliant and he remembers it now at age 15.

daisytumble · 28/09/2023 20:27

WHAT!

we did - in 2017 and it was about that for 3 nights for 4 people.

It was amazing. I know of a few people at our school who did. But more who ski as normal every winter (we don't do that).

thirdistheonewiththehairychest · 28/09/2023 20:31

Don't be daft!!

DurhamDurham · 28/09/2023 20:33

Do most people take their Children to Lapland?

NoHmm obviously MOST people do not.

Throwingpots · 28/09/2023 20:34

It would be very full if everyone did 😂

YukoandHiro · 28/09/2023 20:35

Most??

Hardly anyone can afford that surely? We certainly can't and we're not even particularly struggling at the moment.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 28/09/2023 20:36

Nope

Sdpbody · 28/09/2023 20:37

My DC are at private school and only 2/24 have been before.

Missingmyusername · 28/09/2023 20:37

“I’ve heard taking the kids to Lapland to make memories 🤮is a bit like veganism: you don’t have to ask, they tell you very quickly and then very frequently.”

🙄

Kendodd · 28/09/2023 20:42

I took my kids for a long weekend when they were about 9, 7 and 6. It was brilliant, one of the best holidays we've been on. We didn't go to the main place, we went somewhere near the Norwegian border almost as far north as you can go, really, really tiny place on a frozen river. We did sledging, snow shoe walking, snowmobiling, went on a reindeer sledge through the forest to see FC in a little cabin, we saw lots of wide reindeer and stars, no northern lights though sadly. The best bit was dog sledging though, across a frozen lake. I would recommend it if you can afford to go.

In answer to the question though, I don't know anyone else who's been.

BlowDryRat · 28/09/2023 20:43

I haven't taken my DC to Lapland. I wanted to but for the cost of a 3-day Christmas package, I could take them away for a week elsewhere. So I have.

They're now 13 and 10. They've survived. I can only think of 1 family I know who took their DC on a Lapland trip.

mondaytosunday · 28/09/2023 20:44

I don't know anyone who has.

SummerSazz · 28/09/2023 20:44

We took the DC when they were 7 and 6. We had an amazing time and saw the Northern Lights. We stayed on a reindeer farm (not the ski resort type stuff) in a cabin.

It wasn't stupidly expensive for 4 nights but was about 9 years ago. Finland is beautiful ⛄️

LER83 · 28/09/2023 20:45

I know several families who have been, they all went for a few days and said it was amazing. I would like to go, but without my dc! It would be their worst nightmare and I'm not going to pay all that money to listen to them moan the entire time! (They are not outdoorsy and wouldn't cope with the cold!)

SummerSazz · 28/09/2023 20:45

I know 2 other people who have been so not the majority
