What are the small things in life that uplift your mood?

Saw a thread the other day about minor everyday things that piss you off, so thought I’d create one about the little, maybe mundane things, that automatically uplift your mood! I’ll start:

  • One of my favourite things is wearing clothes (mainly my nighties!) fresh out of the laundry. An unbeatable feeling.
  • The feeling when your phone turns on after being out of charge for some time.
  • Using a new toothbrush
  • Drinking a glass of COLD water or a drink after eating chocolate or a heavy bite, or after waking up from a nap.
  • Sleeping on freshly washed duvet covers and bedsheets.

Love this thread OP. It's the little things!

A dry breezy cool day with grey gloomy clouds.
A nice coffee in town people watching on a cool day
Getting into clean sheets with shaved legs
My cats rubbing my legs
My boys reaction when they see me when I pick them up
Putting on a favourite comforting series
Taking all the days clothes off and putting comfies on
A piece of buttery toast after feel jittery with hunger

Ladyoftheknight · 27/09/2023 11:42

Thinking your coffee has gone cold, but finding it at the perfect temp
Getting all the laundry done and put away (4 daughters, it's rare)
Having the house spotless, tidy and with candles lit in every room
Smelling the plug in air fresheners
Getting into that perfect comfy position on the sofa, when the kids are asleep and the cats are snuggled in with me

Disturbia81 · 27/09/2023 11:43

Watching bake off
Putting halloween/christmas dec out

xogossipgirlxo · 27/09/2023 11:47

Bath
Chocolate
Watching “Friends”
Time spent with my husband
Watching fairylights

That feeling on Christmas Eve…when the house is clean, the food all prepped, everyone is home and safe, the shops are shut and there’s nothing left to do except relax.

The look on my German Shepherds face when she running round on a walk, long hair fluffed out behind her.

When she wakes me early to come into bed for a cuddle, and she wriggles towards me (she insists we must be in contact!)

Random small acts of kindness from strangers….sadly getting a rare thing lately.

‘Thank you’ cards from customers at work… so rare that we all gather round to read them….even the blokes!

A lunch out with my bestie, followed by one of our long walks and a real good chat… totally love this, and come home feeling a new woman (with sore legs)

Really good food “out” I love a good meal somewhere, especially a carvery, but anything that’s good and hot, done with care.

The few days in Autumn and Winter that start with a frost and then sunshine, making walking a pleasure, berries on the bushes, crunchy colourful leaves, your breath in the clean air, then the sun setting and the the sky all red and a frost setting in again. A warm house and cosy bed.

Of course, the clean bed linen -dried on the line- must be the winner🏆

myBumJuiceSmellsLikeRoses · 27/09/2023 11:57

Fresh line dried bedsheets.

Looking sideways from my desk and watching birds splashing around in the birdbath. Usually a starling that looks hell-bent on emptying the thing!

Positive feedback at work always boosts me.

And a kid free day usually gives me a pick me up!

I also love going to bed in clean bedding and nightwear. Or settling down for a rare afternoon nap....

Aww yes seeing birds have a little bath or on my feeder. Seeing a plump robin appear from under a bush and stand proud ♥️

I love when I get chance to paint my nails in a funky colour and I get it just right, so the paint job is really neat.

Seeing bees buzzing from one flower to the next. Extra happy points if I can see the little pollen bobbles on their legs.

The sea. Or any other large body of water.

Fireworks make me cry happy tears - which can be a little embarrassing if someone notices 😆

My favourite songs in a playlist - played loudly whenever I have the house to myself.

Just been enjoying watching a wood pigeon virtually lying on it's back, with its wings spread out, on our lawn so that the heavy rain could wash the underside of it's wings!

Not seen that for a while. The last time we saw one was a pigeon doing it on our lawn when we had the sprinkler on in Summer! Now that was funny!

Never seen any other birds doing it, must be something specific to pigeons!

bigcheesematrix · 27/09/2023 13:10

Settling down to read the new Robert Galbraith which arrived on the day of release and immediately knowing that it's going to be a good read. I told dh that he's going to lose me for a few days!

On that note - just enjoying a really good book

allthehops · 27/09/2023 13:23

A good cup of tea
Meeting a lovely dog
Being on a beach
Good piece of cake

allthehops · 27/09/2023 13:24

Oh, and when you go for a pub roast (especially after a walk) and they have lamb on the menu, and cauliflower cheese that you don't have to pay extra for.

BadgeronaMoped · 27/09/2023 13:25

Guinness Original. A hot bath. Guinness Foreign Extra Stout Grin Birdsong. Guinness West Indies Porter. A cup of tea.

Caledoniablue · 27/09/2023 13:28

Definitely a good cup of coffee in the morning
Sitting outside on our terrace watching the sunset over the sea
Hearing toddler ds laughing

RosesAndHellebores · 27/09/2023 13:38

Fresh bedlinen
Twining Extra Strong Breakfast Tea first thing
The first bunch of spring daffs
Scented tea lights on winter evenings
Glowing embers
A brand new pair of tights
Snuggling up to my DH of 32 years last thing and first thing
The cats

Holdmysunhat · 27/09/2023 13:43

The sound of my toddler softly humming to himself

Hotel breakfasts

The smell of wood polish

The sound of an orchestra tuning up before a big performance

TakenUpTheOxoTower · 27/09/2023 13:46

Fat tummies on just-fed babies, and their look of contentment.

Remembering my dog as a tiny puppy (haha, weighs over 5 stone now!) with a round full tummy and crawling on me to sleep it off… she loved being carried round like a baby and sleeping on me.

A beautiful streaked sky or unusual cloud patterns… lockdown was amazing for silent skies and the sights and sounds of nature creeping back.

uncertainalice · 27/09/2023 13:54

Being cuddled up in bed with a good book whilst the weather rages outside. And if my 8 year old is cuddled up with his book next to me that's even better.

TenBlackRoses · 27/09/2023 15:41

The call back my horses do when I whistle to call them up from the field (only works with me, have had others do the same whistle to experiment, I must have a particular pitch so they know it's definitely me 😊)
The way they groom me back when I find the magic itchy spot
The way my dog wags her whole body and talks with a toy in her mouth she just had to bring me, when I come in from work
The contented sigh she gives when she snuggles up for a cuddle
Watching wildlife go about its business, like bees in flowers, birds hopping about on the lawn etc
Seeing the moon and stars on a clear night, bonus if it's frosty

Crikeyalmighty · 27/09/2023 15:46

Walking to my office along Great pultney street on a sunny autumn or spring day

Daffodils in at M&S

A clean house and a full fridge

Airports on the way out - I love the anticipation - also add getting off plane in bright warm sunshine having left cloud and rain

First day in year of wearing sandals!!

Catsmere · 28/09/2023 12:20

A faceful of whiskers and whistly purrs from this little person.

What are the small things in life that uplift your mood?

I saw a pigeon on a fence in the rain & it lifted up one wing then the other just like a human in their shower washing their armpits. It was enchanting.
