Theee most annoying thing about parent’s whatsapp group?

KeepNameChanging81 · 25/09/2023 18:23

Laura: Georgie has lost her PE Top please could you check their bags when they get home?

Cue….29 mum’s saying:

sorry ‘Henry hasn’t got it hope you find it’

’not with Emily, really hope it’s found’

’Hi Laura; must catch up on that coffee with you me and Emma and sorry it’s not with Tom hope you find it soon’

’ha ha ha not again didn't Georgie do that last week, sorry not with us’

’Hi sorry Jane is at dance and she’s back at 7 so ill
check her bag then’

WHY?!! If you haven’t got it don’t say you haven’t got it!!! FFS! Just if you’ve got it let the parent know so my phone isn’t pinging every two mins.

What’s the most annoying parent whatsapp on your parent group?

I used to find the primary class WhatsApp a bit irritating. But now it has been eclipsed by the secondary year WhatsApp. Half the parents know each other because their kids went to primary school together and clearly some of them don't work during conventional office hours, or maybe at all. So they just have a bit of a chat on a WhatsApp with 200 participants. I would ditch it, but I'd miss the very occasional thing that only the parents with older siblings know about and DD would be furious.

mummabubs · 25/09/2023 20:16

I actually wondered if you were in my son's class WhatsApp group as the first message today was asking everyone to confirm that we don't have someone's jumper at home as they've lost it. 😂😂😂

Needmorelego · 25/09/2023 20:17

This is weird.....there was another thread today about being ignored by the "school mum clique" yet here is a system for school mum's to talk to each other (just in an online version) and you are all complaining about it.
What do people want..... fellow school parents to talk to each other or ignore each other?
Everyone seems to simultaneously hate the fellow parents at their children's school yet also doesn't want to be left out and ignored.
All so odd.

rollonretirementfgs · 25/09/2023 20:20

New mum in our chat, posting pics of her kid in her new uniform, walking to school, after school, in PE kit etc etc.... nobody cares!!

Needmorelego · 25/09/2023 20:21

@rollonretirementfgs or a woman trying to make new friends....

juicelooseabootthishoose · 25/09/2023 20:12

People who can't be bothered to read any communication the school send out and use the group as a personal assistant to ask inane questions.

This is definitely my sin 🫣

stayathomer · 25/09/2023 20:25

I’d rather 29 people say they don’t have it than have no answer!!

SavBlancTonight · 25/09/2023 20:28

I am enjoying seeing on this thread the differences between the "but it's good to acknowledge the message" gang vs the "only respond if you can add vslue" crowd!

I am in the latter group. Not least because the tumbleweed when our class reps asked recently if, after 2 years of doing it, someone else could step up....the silence was deafening! 😀😀😀

I have avoided the secondary school whatsapp. Feel extraordinarily pleased with myself!

Coffeesnob11 · 25/09/2023 20:29

The chat about all the events that happen in the day such as coffee mornings, fundraising Council etc. Then lots of thanks for a lovely time. Set up a separate WhatsApp group. Some of us have to work rather than attend the million things between 9.30 and 3.

LemongrassLollipop · 25/09/2023 20:33

The mums whose kids can apparently, never manage, to take any school letters home ever.

Noclothestowear · 25/09/2023 20:34

@KeepNameChanging81

I can’t I use whatsapp for my business!

You can mute the individual group not all of WhatsApp. You're just as bad as the parent who doesn't know how to check the website 😂

Noclothestowear · 25/09/2023 20:35

I have avoided the secondary school whatsapp what?! I didn't know there was a such thing, my kids are primary age. So how big are the highschool WhatsApps?

camelfinger · 25/09/2023 20:35

They’re so annoying. The worst people are those who need all the information copying and pasting from the school emails, and in the same breath moan about poor communication from the school.

bargainsgalore · 25/09/2023 20:37

@KeepNameChanging81 I have nearly started this thread a few times this term already! You beat me to it.

My favourite so far has been new year 7 first-time parents complaining they don't get a notification via the parent app whenever their child is set some new homework (which is pretty much at least once every day). Ironically, one of the same parents was bemoaning the lack of paper planners the day before. I do wonder if she would have expected a daily reminder from the school to check that too!

Oh, and another one complained their child got wet in the rain waiting for the school bus. (The school's fault, obviously, not because she didn't supply a raincoat).

alpenguin · 25/09/2023 20:39

One person forever pushing their relatives business and it’s not an MLM.

Haveyouseenthemuffinman · 25/09/2023 20:39

Calling it “year 2 mums” or whatever and having lots of lolz that maybe, you know, Dads might get involved in the stuff it ought to be about like tomorrow’s PE kit or Friday’s school trip.

then moaning that their DH/DP would never do that and aren’t we lucky that we had higher standards about who we mixed our genes with our other halves do stuff.

bargainsgalore · 25/09/2023 20:40

Some parents treat the whatsapp group as an alternative to google or Alexa - most of the info is on the school website but they just can't be arsed to check it before asking the 100ish people on the Whatsapp group.

alpenguin · 25/09/2023 20:41

Oh and the woman who is forever posting pics of her family on holiday like it’s social media with lots of you look amaze hun responses

namechanging1212 · 25/09/2023 20:43

The one that shares any bumps or bruises of their precious

EastCoastExile · 25/09/2023 20:44

People who don't know how to use apostrophes...

RosaKim · 25/09/2023 20:46

This thread had made me laugh - I hear you op 😂

My biggest bugbear is the group gift for Xmas or end of term where they dictate how much you should contribute and if you don’t want to get involved you’re a pariah.

Gro · 25/09/2023 20:50

We had one who as soon as a letter is sent out sends a screenshot to the whatsapp group. First to answer any question (usually by sending a screenshot of a letter). Always posts "don't forget it's PE today" Every fucking Monday at 6am.

We all get the same letters as you! Stop posting them!!!

KeepNameChanging81 · 25/09/2023 20:52

I’m deffo in the only post if you can add VALUE! @Needmorelego think we are opposites.

The class whatsapp isn’t the way to make friends. It’s the way to piss people off.

For example I don’t need telling every Thursday is games I know it’s games.

What annoys me is when the parent’s creations win!!

This! We once had a dc in year 1 win the whole school competition to create a puzzle of any kind. She’d meticulously used a saw to cut wood and create a jigsaw puzzle that slotted together very smoothly and had the school crest beautifully burned on the top…. Yes, of course the year 1 dc did that on her own!
