We changed to Aldi 18 months ago and it’s really made a difference to our food bills. For context, we get everything in one shop, no top ups and don’t go anywhere else for items. 3 adults (one is my 90 plus year old DMIL, very small appetite) and 2 cats (greedy beggars) This is our weekly shop until next Saturday including breakfast, lunch and evening meals.

Large cucumber
2 x bagged salad
bag of red onions
bag of normal onions
Celery
2 heads of broccoli
large bag of wonky carrots x 2
Stock cubes
Savoy cabbage
Frozen peas
Frozen green beans
2 bunches bananas
1 bag of oranges
2.5 kg potatoes x 2
900 grams boneless chicken thighs
12 eggs
750 grams of 5% minced beef
700 gram pack of pork shoulder steaks
8 Cumberland sausages
2 salmon fillets x 2
2 x baked beans
1 x Norpak spread
1 x butter
1 x block of mature cheddar
Cream crackers
2 x loafs of wholemeal bread
Crumpets
1 x toaster bread
Frozen chicken pie (large)
Greek yoghurt (their Fage version)
2 x packs of bacon (14 slices in total)
10 slices corned beef
Cream cheese
3 x tinned fruit
2 boxes cat food
Kitchen wash up sponges
Shower gel
Kitchen roll
Long grain rice
Spaghetti
Bag of porridge oats
Chocolate digestives
Bag of sugar
180 Aldi red label tea bags
8 pints semi skimmed milk
Single cream
Ready to roll shortcrust pastry
Cornflakes.

I have happy memories of watching Surprise Surprise and Blind Date with my Great Grandmother.

BebbanburgIsMine · 23/09/2023 21:19

Just out of interest OP, but what do you drink?

I don't mean alcohol, but just normal fruit/fizzy juice, water etc.

coronafiona · 23/09/2023 21:21

£140

Oh sorry just seen you posted the actual price- that's great! I can't seem to come out of there spending less than £120 lately

caringcarer · 23/09/2023 21:30

@maddiemookins16mum just wondering how you can make 2 boxes of cat food for 2 cats last a while week? Surely each cat eats 3 sachets a day? That is the recommended amount to feed each cat on the box. £138 in total.

Good question, I only drink tea, tap water, squash and a coffee before work.

They have about 4 sachets a day between them and dried food too (we have cat biscuits left from last week).

We did an Aldi shop on Friday and it was £170. I couldn't believe it. It was no bigger than usual but seemed to be £50 more.

The woman on the checkout caught me and DH talking about it and said they're changing the price labels every day because prices keep going up.

Shadowboy · 23/09/2023 21:37

I haven’t a clue! I online shop so do t really notice individual item price, and we buy meat from the local organic farm. We
don’t have cats either so I’m probably way off!
We spend about £180 per week but that includes organic meat and dairy. My husband is gluten intolerant too which is expensive, we also shop for 4.

Sooooo, assuming mass produced meat, non specialised grains etc… and only 3 people I’m going to go for £82?

DietHelp · 23/09/2023 20:53

I’m ill and that bored that I added up the same in Sainsbury’s is a couple of quid more expensive (give or take for variations of sizes). It’s not worth changing for me!

Same! We gave up on Aldi because it wasn't worth the hassle for such a small difference at Sainsburys

BebbanburgIsMine · 23/09/2023 21:38

@maddiemookins16mum

Thankyou for answering, I only asked as half my shopping is made up of various types of juice. I drink much more than I eat, so I always have Apple Juice, Pepsi Max, Irn Bru Xtra and flavoured water in my house. DD drinks much the same, we both have diluting juice occasionally.

AdoraBell · 23/09/2023 21:39

I was going to say between £85/£90.

Cheeseandlobster · 23/09/2023 21:40

maddiemookins16mum · 23/09/2023 20:26

£83.77 was the total. The family sized pie was £2.75 (we’ll have it with mash and veg).
Pretty pleased with this haul actually.

I know the pie. Its lovely! Have you noticed the packaging shows puff pastry when the actual pie is shortcrust. Small detail. I prefer shortcrust anyway though so it's all good for me

LizzieSiddal · 23/09/2023 21:46

That’s very good value! I thought around £130.

PerfectYear321 · 23/09/2023 21:49

£90

PerfectYear321 · 23/09/2023 21:50

Ah! I didn't know how much cat food was so I think that's where I went wrong when I said £90

TroglodytesTroglodytes · 23/09/2023 21:58

My cats only eat one sachet of wet food each a day but they have a constant supply of dry food (iams). They don’t seem overly fussed about wet food and prefer the dry.

Davros · 23/09/2023 22:00

I don't shop in Aldi but my guess was £80. Pretty close!

meringue33 · 23/09/2023 22:13

Sounds good. You don’t eat much fruit? We get loads, apples, bananas, berry fruit, melon etc
How was the chicken pie? I got a quiche from Aldi the other day and tbh it was revolting…

Not huge fresh fruit eaters tbh, but I have a banana with porridge most days and tinned fruit as an afternoon snack. I just about get my 5 a day if I have 3 types of veg or salad with lunch/dinner.

I’m very impressed. That’s a lot of food for little money. Amazing actually.

Philosopherstone · 23/09/2023 22:36

What do you do with the chicken thighs I've actually never cooked them before just looking for ideas?

autienotnaughty · 23/09/2023 22:38

Not looked at any other answers

£114

Peaceandquietfinally · 23/09/2023 22:39

About£80

Xmasbaby11 · 23/09/2023 22:40

I’m saying about £80. Lots of cheap items, only the odd more pricey thing like salmon.
