We changed to Aldi 18 months ago and it’s really made a difference to our food bills. For context, we get everything in one shop, no top ups and don’t go anywhere else for items. 3 adults (one is my 90 plus year old DMIL, very small appetite) and 2 cats (greedy beggars) This is our weekly shop until next Saturday including breakfast, lunch and evening meals.

Large cucumber
2 x bagged salad
bag of red onions
bag of normal onions
Celery
2 heads of broccoli
large bag of wonky carrots x 2
Stock cubes
Savoy cabbage
Frozen peas
Frozen green beans
2 bunches bananas
1 bag of oranges
2.5 kg potatoes x 2
900 grams boneless chicken thighs
12 eggs
750 grams of 5% minced beef
700 gram pack of pork shoulder steaks
8 Cumberland sausages
2 salmon fillets x 2
2 x baked beans
1 x Norpak spread
1 x butter
1 x block of mature cheddar
Cream crackers
2 x loafs of wholemeal bread
Crumpets
1 x toaster bread
Frozen chicken pie (large)
Greek yoghurt (their Fage version)
2 x packs of bacon (14 slices in total)
10 slices corned beef
Cream cheese
3 x tinned fruit
2 boxes cat food
Kitchen wash up sponges
Shower gel
Kitchen roll
Long grain rice
Spaghetti
Bag of porridge oats
Chocolate digestives
Bag of sugar
180 Aldi red label tea bags
8 pints semi skimmed milk
Single cream
Ready to roll shortcrust pastry
Cornflakes.

But a lot depends on what the cat food is...

£83.77 was the total. The family sized pie was £2.75 (we’ll have it with mash and veg).
Pretty pleased with this haul actually.

£80? I have no idea how much the meat is so guessed. Also to the pp who said £8 of milk I think that 8 pints, or 2 x 4 pint of milk is around £3.20.

Cross post- but I was quite close!

WaitingfortheTardis · 23/09/2023 20:30

I was going to say £76-£80 so I was at least close! I based it on what I think I would pay in Tesco going for mostly own brands.

Dacadactyl · 23/09/2023 20:32

That's good going OP.

When I saw the salmon I thought my 85 pound guess seemed too low.

ChristmasCrumpet · 23/09/2023 20:32

£91

mangomama91 · 23/09/2023 20:32

I'd say around £80

ChristmasCrumpet · 23/09/2023 20:33

Oh, cross post, it was £84.

How much was the cat food, that was hard to guess having never bought it.

It’s Aldi’s own, £3.19 for 12 sachets.

I was coming on to say 85£. Phew, close.

Dillane · 23/09/2023 20:35

£95

Pushkinini · 23/09/2023 20:45

£75.78

We don’t have salmon every week, it’s a bit expensive but do love it. The 900 grams of boneless chicken thighs (I split it into two lots so covers two meals for us three), is £5.19. The 750 minced beef was £4.75 - again I’ll split that into two lots, one for a spaghetti bolognaise and the rest for a cottage pie. I do tend to bulk out with veg to make it go further.
MIL is planning to make a batch of carrot, lentil and bacon soup (we have lentils in the cupboard), which we’ll have for at least two lunches.

I’m ill and that bored that I added up the same in Sainsbury’s is a couple of quid more expensive (give or take for variations of sizes). It’s not worth changing for me!

heldinadream · 23/09/2023 20:55

@maddiemookins16mum I guessed £86 but didn't post it, but that's beside my point which is that it's lovely to see how you seem to be happily co-habiting with your 90 year-old MIL. How nice. 😊

Sodullincomparison · 23/09/2023 20:59

That’s funny as we have done three week’s of shopping there and it’s been between £80-£84 each week with very different items in it.

maybe that’s what a small trolley’s worth costs.

WaitingfortheTardis · 23/09/2023 21:00

@DietHelp Me too so I did the same for Tesco, which came to £81.55 for me. It's interesting how close they all are, a lot of those items in Tesco are labelled 'Aldi price match'.

@heldinadream she’s amazing. I adore her. She’s just made me rewind Strictly so she can ‘see that nice young Dr from Casualty dance again’.

She does have her own wee one bedroom annexe flat - so has her own space but we do all eat together and quite often we’ll watch telly together (especially things like Strictly and Bake Off).

@WaitingfortheTardis oh what fun for a Saturday night!! I need to get out more.😂

anybloodyname · 23/09/2023 21:05

£82.50

StarDolphins · 23/09/2023 21:10

£95

Aldi has gone up more per item than the others in my opinion.

goingtotown · 23/09/2023 21:18

Aldi fruit & veg is not the same quality as other major supermarkets. I done a top up shop there yesterday, strawberries with todays date were binned, satsumas so sour couldn't eat them, 2 onions were brown inside.
