Tube near Staines Upon Thames

We are coming over to London again next weekend to go to Thorpe and a match . Incredibly , there is another train strike. There was one the last day we were over in August !

This one seems to be an 'all out' strike .

Can anyone advise what is the nearest underground station to Staines Upon Thames please ? Our son will be at the West Ham match and needs to get from city centre to Staines without any trains ....

Thank you so much for any local help. I have looked but it's rather unclear .

Tube to Heathrow then a bus?

StationManager · 23/09/2023 14:00

There is no tube in or near Staines.
Nearest would probably be Richmond, which is the end of the district line which is about 10 miles away or Hounslow West which is the end of the Piccadilly line and about 7 miles away.

JassyRadlett · 23/09/2023 14:02

Oh no!

I think the best will be the Elizabeth line to Heathrow and then a bus/pick up by car, and actually not too much worse than taking tube then train.

cherryassam · 23/09/2023 14:02

yes I think tube or Elizabeth line to Heathrow then bus / cab / Uber is your best bet

StationManager · 23/09/2023 14:03

And then you can get a 490 bus from Richmond to Twickenham and then a 290 bus from Twickenham to Staines. It will take ages though.

Another one for going via Heathrow, preferably on the Elizabeth line.

Much better to take the Lizzie to Heathrow which is miles closer than Richmond, then the X442 or similar which should be pretty quick to Staines.

JassyRadlett · 23/09/2023 14:08

The other benefit of the Elizabeth is that you can go from Stratford with no changes. It will take a while - around 50 mins - but no hassle of changing trains.

DontLeanOnTheKeyboard · 23/09/2023 14:09

Beaconsfield?

ruthieness · 23/09/2023 14:21

Hatton Cross!

PinkArt · 23/09/2023 14:22

Check if the Lizzie Line is affected by the strikes before relying on it for Heathrow travel - I have a feeling it falls under train rather than tube when strike action hits.

Ginmonkeyagain · 23/09/2023 14:33

Staines isn't even in London.

As people have said your best bet is to get a tube to Heathrow or Richmond and then a bus or cab.

You can get the Overground (the Orange line) from Stratford to Richmond.

Keepcalm21 · 23/09/2023 14:50

I’d get the tube to Heathrow T5 and get the number 8 or X442 bus, or Hatton Cross and then the 203 bus - not sure which option is quicker.

FoodieToo · 23/09/2023 14:54

Thank you all very much , appreciate all that info. So going to Heathrow seems the best option .

Beaconsfield?!

MariaVT65 · 23/09/2023 15:00

I think Feltham also has a tube station which is fairly near Staines.

No, Feltham’s not on the tube.

MariaVT65 · 23/09/2023 15:05

Ok sorry. Yeah i’d go with Hatton Cross in that case. Might be cheaper to get a taxi from there than from Heathrow

The bus network in London is excellent and links in beautifully with train, overground, tube, tram and DLR stations. It takes account of any planned or unplanned disruption unless it's literally just happened.

Go to www.tfl.gov.uk and do Plan A Journey, having noted the name or postcode of your endpoints - in this case, these will all be places in the database by name I think. You can tweak it by selecting or deselecting different transport modes, changing to "fastest", "least walking" or "fewest changes", selecting the maximum time you would want to walk for and to select to walk parts if it makes your journey faster, or adding a "via" station or place. You can also look at realtime status of the network, next buses to appear at a specific stop, bus timetables...

This should very simply give you a selection of options to leave or arrive at your location at the right time which you can then follow in realtime during your journey and replan en route if you have any problems.

A bus from West Ham to Staines would take about 200 years.

Beaconsfield?

What? Beaconsfield is nowhere near Staines & is not on a tube line!

OdeToBarney · 23/09/2023 16:31

Tube to Hatton Cross and bus or taxi from there up Staines. It's a 20 minute drive.

Svalberg · 23/09/2023 16:32

The Elizabeth Line is rail and not tube, and Staines is nowhere near a tube station.

I'd agree that using the TFL planner is probably the best idea

NowWhattt · 23/09/2023 16:36

YABU calling it Staines Upon Thames 🤣
No one calls it that!!

😁

CheersToMe · 23/09/2023 16:43

That's what it's called?

Anyhoo...

Tube to Hatton Cross and Uber would be my suggestion.
