Dentures/crap teeth.

No idea where this should go so I'm posting here for traffic.

Does anyone on here have truly awful teeth? As is falling apart, breaking, lots of fillings etc.. I'm 44 and my teeth had a shit start in life, didn't get taken to the dentist regularly and then once I hit 16 and had to pay I didn't get taken at all and I couldn't afford it. Ended up having two teeth removed when my aunt took pity on me and stuck the cost on her credit card.

I had a tooth break last week and a temporary filling put on so I need to go back next week but I'm just sitting here and thought a different tooth felt odd and that's broken as well.. So I now have one on the left and one on the right broken, the one on the left already has a root canal.

So to get to the point would dentures at the age of 44 be an awful idea? My husband thinks it would be terrible 🤣 I don't have thousands of pounds to get them sorted but I'm so genuinely fed up of constant horrible, weak teeth and pain.

Im lucky to have an NHS dentist (midlands) but not everything is covered so it's still tricky when you've rubbish teeth. Also our dentist sort of expects me to have a view or opinion and I don't have a clue what's best. What is great is they will do what they can NHS and then you top up. What's really frustrating is that even hygienist appts are charged now which feels so short sighted. In the long run that feels like it'll cost more

This is not true. I had extraction and dentures on the same day

I am in same area as you but gave up looking for nhs I went private and had a emergency appointment a temp filling then 2nd appointment 3 teeth pulled replaced with a partial denture and a hygienist appointment on top and a new filling in a few weeks it's end up costing me £1700 total you can ask them to do the treatment over several appointments so your not paying all at once I used my savings which took me 3 months to save for

Glad I found this thread. I had to have a cracked tooth removed a couple of years ago which isn't really noticeable but I also had two root canals which the teeth have just crumbled basically and I have a small amount of tooth left, one is quite near the front so I've been thinking about getting dentures and feeling very ashamed about it. I knew I couldn't be the only one...pregnancy is very bad for teeth.

I'm 36 and have a partial of 3 teeth this week its more normal then you think

Universalsnail · 10/11/2023 23:35

I have a filling in every single tooth and a front tooth out that I currently have a denture for but getting an implant. I've had 8 root canals. My teeth are awful even though I care for them. My mum's are awful too and my Nans literally crumbled out of her face in pregnancy.

I absolutely HATE my denture. It impacts the taste of food. I can't bite with it properly. It falls out and I have to cover it in fixident and still it falls out. I wouldn't get one unless I had no other option.

I have upper and lower partials (NHS). They look incredibly natural and I have a lovely smile now. I'd like to shake the technician's hand - they've done a fabulous job.

So my new dentist is a liar Shock

Why would she unnecessarily tell me I had to wait 3 months for the gum to heal before taking a mould to send it off for dentures? Confused

I guess they have different access to equipment and policies.

I would wait. I had all my front teeth removed and a denture a week or so later.

They were fine at first but after a while they became loose. I'm sure it was because my gums shrank.
I've read that they should give you a temp plate and then a few months later the proper one. I would wait.
