I've got this . I love it.
It does reverse which is sufficient for most clothes but sheets/quilt covers do need shaking out and returning once during the dry as they do ball up. Clothes come out ready to hang up mostly - and it is extremely economical. About 10p per load. It collects water in a resevoir which is easily emptied (no spillage) but it can also be plumbed into a drain.
If you can't get to it immediately then it turns the clothes over every 5 minutes for an hour or so.

I have an AEG 8kg heat pump one. Its really low cost to run. Expensive to buy but i didnt have a dryer the last 2 winters and really struggled.

I think mine is actually the 8kg version. It is a full size, 600mm wide, rather than that narrow version

We bought a bosch for around £700 - works fine and should save us a lot in electricity vs our old vented dryer

TheresALight · 21/09/2023 22:10

Do you need to have a heat pump installed to use these? Had a condenser tumble dryer in the garage before and not sure if I'd need to do anything different if I wanted to upgrade?

Medlady · 21/09/2023 22:30

They contain their own mini heat pump i believe

CantThinkOfANewUsernameAgain · 21/09/2023 22:59

Thank you. Will look into those

They're more.efficient when they're new but once they're older and get fluffed up, inside they get slower and cost more to run. Our electric bills plummeted when we replaced a.3.year old one. Thst was taking forever to dry with a normal condenser dryer (same brand) . That dryer is now older than the dryer it replaced and after having the rollers and belt replaced because we used it so much we wore them out, still dries just as quickly.

It helps that you can take the condenser out and rinse it in the shower

Focalpoint · 21/09/2023 23:09

I wouldn't bother. Takes forever to dry anything. Got rid of mine.

Energy efficiency achieved by the clothes line and sparing use of a condenser dryer.

PickAChew · 21/09/2023 23:10

Clothes line is a bit crap in the rain.

Medlady · 21/09/2023 23:39

My repair guy says they just don’t work if they are built in. Need colder air around them to be effective.

have only used them on holiday but been amazed by their uselessness both times

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 21/09/2023 23:52

I've got a Bosch one. Condenser tank empties into a pipe

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 21/09/2023 23:52

I don't have the same experience as @Focalpoint

Focalpoint · 22/09/2023 00:00

All I can say is don't buy a Hoover one! Could have been my machine and I have no doubt there are better models available.

Had to leave it over night to dry properly - so no different to a clothes horse

Landlubber2019 · 29/09/2023 22:08

We got a Bosch one, yes it takes longer to dry but works better on larger loads. I prefer it as it doesn't create loads of heat like our old condenser tumble dryer

wineandmaltesershappyme · 30/09/2023 09:45

I've got the BEKO - Pro RapiDry B5T4823RW 8 kg Heat Pump Tumble Dryer and really rate it. Bedding does get balled up but i just give it a shake part way through. Can either be plumbed in to drain the water or use the built in tank.

CantThinkOfANewUsernameAgain · 30/09/2023 10:03

Thank you. Yes i use the line when not raining. But with 5 beds, 6 people. Dh work clothes that have to get washed seperate. Etc etc i need a tumble for winter.

I wash probably 15 loads a week. Half of which needs tumbling. I can't have wet washing constantly on airers

We have this Hotpoint one. I've been pretty impressed with how efficient it is. Not much in the way of creasing even when my husband overfills it. https://ao.com/product/ntm1192skuk-hotpoint-heat-pump-tumble-dryer-white-78032-126.aspx

How long does it take to completely dry a load of 6kg washing

Bringonthesunforthewashing · 12/04/2024 15:40

@CantThinkOfANewUsernameAgain
which one did you get in the end?

I am driving myself crazy because I can’t decide!

We are similar to you in amount of washes and needing a big capacity drum.

There are so many conflicting comments and I can’t decide

Colette88 · 15/04/2024 13:03

The Grundig one from Currys is absolutely fabulous. Shut the door and leave it to do it's stuff

ElectricEcho · 29/05/2024 16:51

The Appliance Depot have a great range of the best heat pump tumble dryers - majority of the items are graded or ex display but they come with a nice discount as well compared to RRP£ of bigger companies. Worth taking a look.
