Olivia Rodrigo tickets - too young for standing!

Urhhnnnnggghh, just went through the traumatic process of registering, queuing, panic buying on ticketmaster for Olivia Rodrigo tickets next year. There were no seated tickets coming up, despite the sale having been open for less than a minute, so I panicked and bought four standing tickets.

Only once it was all done, did I go back through to take time to read the info about the event, and I see that standing is for age 16+ only. My dd (and her friends) will be 14.

Can't return the tickets, can't buy different ones now as could only buy 4 max, I was lucky to get a code to purchase anyway as lots didnt manage to get even that, but I've nobbed it!

Not much I can do now is there? I'm so gutted, my dd loves Olivia Rodrigo with the raw passion that I had for Take That back in the day. I was so excited to be able to try for these tickets for her.

Does anyone know if they are v strict on this age restriction at the O2? Would they be asked for ID?

However even if you are 16 but had no id they weren’t letting you in, none of the pre concert info stated this was needed and I genuinely wouldn’t have thought to take her passport to a gig as have never had to before

MotivationalEater · 15/05/2024 08:44

It's probably because crushes are happening more frequently now as concert/gig goers no longer seem to know how to behave. They know this concert will attract young fans and will be doing this to keep them safe.

OnlyOneAdda · 15/05/2024 08:56

How closely are they checking ID??? Like scrutinising the pictures or just checking that everyone had one with the right date on?

asking for a friend

So they were accepting all sorts, Oyster cards, bank cards, student cards…. Can’t say how closely but if you didn’t have anything you didn’t stand a chance

nickykita · 15/05/2024 10:17

Hi. I have seen other post saying normal standing were checking everyone's id. But I didn't have that experience...whether or not that's because it was VIP but a security guard mentioned that even if we are in the venue other staff may still ask for ID for the young girls. But nobody asked me to prove anything, thank goodness...

nickykita · 15/05/2024 10:21

thank goodness you got seated tickets...very stressful though and think when purchasing the tickets this should be made completely clear. I would not have bought them if I thought we wouldn't get in. We did though and had a fantastic time

nickykita · 15/05/2024 10:27

So stressful isnt it.
I think if you're VIP, then it'll be fine...I didn't see them ask anyone but just gave a warning that other people may check. I took some ID just in case and hoped they didn't look to closely. Hope you have a great time. PS Don't expect any VIP experience. All that happens is you get to queue inside outside the venue in a corridor...you still can't go in until 6.30pm...so know enjoying any VIP experience. That being said it does mean that you are allowed in the section right before the stage, which noone else is, so no cramming and as close as anyone could be! So actually in hindsight it was worth it

Rach45553 · 15/05/2024 11:07

Yeah it took the shine off of the evening for sure, but we were very lucky. The thing is when you’re booking tickets you just grab whatever you can get don’t you!

Lolkins74 · 15/05/2024 11:55

Thanks so much everyone for sharing! We do have VIP ones (for what it’s worth?! Not much by sound of it! Haha) so maybe less of an issue than general standing, but still super helpful info to know how it was last night. Great to hear you got a seat instead! Guessed it was all due to insurance but was hoping if I vouched for them as their mum we would be ok, but perhaps not! Anyway, will have some back up ID and cross my fingers! Totally agree this isn’t made clear enough when booking which was crazy stressful in itself! Anyway, hope everyone enjoys their concerts! Cheers all!

mitogoshi · 15/05/2024 12:00

Thanks for the tip off about id, I'm taking over 18's to TS but two look quite young, and as dsd doesn't drink alcohol it would not have occurred to say take your drivers licence, luckily dd looks older

OnlyOneAdda · 15/05/2024 12:10

This is all super useful information thank you!

We do have VIP tickets - and our teen wants us to be there at the crack of dawn to queue! 😂

Is there just one VIP entrance? We've been reading that there might be VIP-VIP for those that have both VIP tix and an O2 priority app? What time could you join the queue? Is it necessary if the VIP area is small and exclusive?

Sorry lots of questions! Would be super grateful for details, details, details! 😂

nickykita · 15/05/2024 18:09

Absolutely not, to all of your VIP questions. I have o2 priority but they’re completely seperate. All the VIP really means is that you get in to the section standing right in front of the stage (no one else but vip there), so it is worth it… but that’s all. You will be waiting until the give you wristbands , which starts at 3.30 ish… but then all you do is wait in a corridor until they let you in to the venue (approx 6.30), nothing else!
everyone that was in the queue (we were middle) , we’re right at the front of the barriers. We were no 131.
once you have the wristband tho you can come and go and still keep your place in the queue so actually once you’ve got your wristband it may actually be worth leaving and going into the o2 priority lounge… I didn’t think of that. Jyst get back ti the queue by 5.50 ish and ask them to put you back in the queue as per your number . Good luck! Great time was had though and worth it as right at the front

biscuitdunkerette · 15/05/2024 23:18

This is so useful, thank you! We are going on Friday having paid a fortune for VIP tickets so really hoping we have the same experience and they don’t check ID.
I wanted to ask, does it make much of a difference to the experience how far up the VIP queue you are? I don’t really fancy arriving at 3.30 to wait in a corridor for 3 hours! What time would you suggest arriving? And thanks again.

nickykita · 16/05/2024 08:15

I would say nit really… if you were last in the queue you wouldn’t be against the barriers but you would still be just a row or oerson away so still
as close as you can get really

biscuitdunkerette · 16/05/2024 09:17

Brilliant we will saunter on up! Thanks

LBOCS2 · 16/05/2024 10:06

We were there last night - even if you're not at the front-front, there are two stage extensions which come out on either side (which VIP sits within) - she utilises them a lot so if you want to be super-close that's also an option. She was very good!

Great thanks! Were they checking ID last night?

LBOCS2 · 16/05/2024 11:36

Don't know I'm afraid - we were up in the seating areas not standing.

Sunshineandpinkclouds · 16/05/2024 11:53

I'm going on Sat and I get a text from AXS to say under 16s must be accompanied by an adult and Standing floor is strictly 16+ only. So sounds like you will be turned away without ID.

cordiality · 16/05/2024 12:18

We went last night and it was brilliant!! Just the best, I think I enjoyed it just as much as the girls!
I did scrutinise the whole standing area as much as possible, and everyone looked pretty old. That was in stark comparison to the seated areas which were 90% sparkly tweens and 8% mums!

Really glad you had a great time in the end 😊

Does anyone know if they are asking for ID for seated tickets? My DD is 14, going tomorrow with her sister who is 17. I'm panicking that she will be ID'd and turned away

Did you manage to get in ok with Vip please? we have the same issue this evening 😬😬

Jubilee1978 · 18/05/2024 08:33

My daughter went to the O2 this week with her friend. I escorted them but didn’t go in. My daughter who is 15 got asked for ID which she provided and was okay. Her friend who is taller and looks older didn’t get asked but is actually 14. If she had been asked then I think they would have refused entry.

Jubilee1978 · 18/05/2024 08:34

This was for seated tickets
