Anyone else been bitten to death?!

I have 44 bites on my body... No exaggeration 😱😱 I can't sleep for itching!!

Has anyone else been bitten like this?!

Yes! What are they? I was blaming the cat but he is de-flea'ed up to his eyeballs so it didn't seem likely!

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 19/09/2023 22:38

Something has chomped it's way down one of my legs. Not sure if it was when I was weeding on an industrial scale gardening at the weekend or something that happened in the night.

TheSummerITurnedChubby · 19/09/2023 22:42

I also have one leg full of bites. They were quite small yesterday and I was looking suspiciously at the cat who sometimes sleeps on my bed and thinking I must do her flea drops. Today they’ve swollen up and are weeping and blistered so I’m thinking horsefly? I have been doing a lot of gardening these last few days

I've always attracted insects but had weird ones this year which don't itch and have bruising round them.

DinnaeFashYersel · 19/09/2023 22:44

Unfortunately. Frequently. I react really badly to midges.

MissDollyMix · 19/09/2023 22:45

There seems to be a vicious bunch of mozzies going round our house. DC’s have been bitten to death and even I’ve been bitten a few times and I never usually get bitten!!

kitsuneghost · 19/09/2023 22:46

I have loads (no pets)

identitytheftisnotajokejim · 19/09/2023 23:43

It's so weird! I've never had bites like these - in the past I've had around 4 in one go but not 44!!!

Avon skin so soft spray...

Righttherights · 19/09/2023 23:50

I had this a couple of weeks ago. Fumigated the house with bug bombs and although I did get a few more after, no more now. Saw a couple of fleas but dog on flea treatments. Vet said can come in from fields. Didn’t ever see any on the bed but still got bitten! Not sure was fleas!

Ineedwinenow · 19/09/2023 23:50

Yes me! The little fuckers have used me as a drive thru buffet! I was weeding yesterday before the rain came and they have now turned into bruises which is weird, my husband has asked me as a joke to cover up as I look like I’ve been attacked by him! I look horrendous! Confused

Theforeverhome · 19/09/2023 23:55

I’ve not had 44 in one go, but have easily had that number over the last month. No fleas but flying things in the garden. We’ve got a Scottish holiday coming up soon and bought Avon Skin So Soft on recommendation of the owner of where we are staying. It’s fucking useless against these midges!

Boydd · 20/09/2023 00:24

Yes me today think they are horsefliesn

Boydd · 20/09/2023 00:26

Yes me

Kleptronic · 20/09/2023 00:46

@Boydd you need to get a line drawn round them in pen and if the redness spreads beyond the line go to the GP/walk-in centre, you might need antibiotics. Also go if you feel unwell/feverish. Get some 1% hydrocortisone cream from the chemists and antihistamine tablets. Put sudacrem/savlon on in the meantime. I come up like that when bitten I totally sympathise!

ShutTheDoorBabe · 20/09/2023 01:20

Yes. Dc2 has had loads of bites over the past few weeks too. I bought some eurax cream and that seems to help reduce the itching, along with cetrizine. The lady at the chemist said they've sold a lot of it recently as there are so many people coming in with bites.

ResoluteRaccoon · 20/09/2023 04:07

i noticed suddenly dozens of mozzies flew into our bathroom the night we had the huge storm in the south (Sunday?) . It was the only room with light on and I guess they were all coming in from the storm

fairymary87 · 20/09/2023 04:16

Boydd · 20/09/2023 00:26

Yes me

Heya, from experience it looks like you're having an allergic reaction there. And possibly they might get infected. Keep an eye out!

aurynne · 20/09/2023 05:06

Two years ago a fellow hiker gave me a superb piece of advice to avoid the itch of insect bites: take Cetirizine (hay fever drug) 10 mg once a day. Mozzies will still bite you, but the bite won't itch or swell. Every time I go camping where there are mosquitoes or sandflies I take my dose of Cetirizine and I have never been bothered by bites anymore.

Flymetothetoon · 20/09/2023 07:13

Avon skin so soft is shite at repelling mozzies etc Smidge is the dogs bollox and even smells nice.

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 20/09/2023 07:23

That's because it's an antihistamine @aurynne. I'd rather not take something unnecessarily on the off chance though.

Gatekeeper · 20/09/2023 07:37

Me! My record was 68 the year I cleared an overgrown garden and got eatwn alive by gnats, midges , blossom beetles ans harvest mites . Latter was the worst aa they dint actually bite but kind of burrow onto top layer of skin. I actually cried as the itching waa so intense for almost 2 weeks

WhatACluster · 20/09/2023 07:55

Yes, absolutely covered in them!

Thought it was the dog/cat and fleas (didn’t actually find any) but flead and wormed and did the entire house with sprays and what not and I have been using the dyson twice a day!

Still getting bitten so it must be something coming in the from the garden 😫 it bloody annoying and I need to buy a bug bomb or similar

Saisong · 20/09/2023 08:04

The harvest mites have been so bad this year, my poor cat was turning into a horrific scabby mess and I had to resort to turning her into a house cat for a while. My other cat is completely unbothered though. Apparently you react to them or you don't, like an allergy I guess.

They are barely visible and spit on your skin to dissolve it, then suck it up. It is only one stage of their life cycle they do this, the rest of the time they are vegetarian.

blobby10 · 20/09/2023 08:29

@Boydd I had a bite on my leg last week which came up like yours. Its normal for me to react like that to either horse fly bites or mosquitoes but this was way more painful than usual. Took ages to go down. I never use anti-itch cream on mine as it makes the swollen skin blister - just ice packs or ice cold flannels to try and cool it a bit then cover them at night (nothing adhesive as that irritates the swollen skin!) so I don't scratch in my sleep. Someone recommended Tiger Balm to me this time - too late for me as it had stopped itching by then but might help if yours are itchy and sore too.
