I’ve never known a year like it

Lemon eucalyptus oil is the best repellent. It's been found to be eqyal to DEET in effectiveness, but without some of the concerns.

Soothe itching with a strong bicarbonate of soda solution. It works really well for little bites. It's a bit antiseptic too, so that's useful.

As a kids I used to circle all the bites with a pen in summer ( not in UK) and once I had over 200 bites. I went back home this year and thr mosquitos still loved me as much as before. Interestingly, my son was like me, but hubby and daugther didnt get many bites.

HOT TEASPOON ON THE BITES!!! I got this to on here this year and it made all the difference - sit down with a cup of boiling water and pop a teaspoon in it. Then take it out and as soon as you can bear it, press it against the bite. It will be the best five minutes you'll spend today

Total game changer

Vet said fleas are rife this year. Everywhere sold out of the spray stuff for the home.

Scottishskifun · 20/09/2023 08:55

We were bitten at our friends house they had a flea outbreak something to do with the wet summer then warm days causes . Despite hoovering twice a day there had just been an explosion and although her cats are treated it hadn't worked.
We hot washed everything when we got home

If it’s fleas and it’s on the floor I suggest doing this as it works for us: a shallow bowl/tub of hot water/boiling with a bit of washing up liquid in it put down in areas where biting happens (in front of sofa, under computer desk, in front of kitchen worktop where you stand to cook). The heat attracts the fleas and they drown in the washing up liquid water. It was brilliant for us. Try it out for half a day and see what you catch.

Edit: we changed the water twice a day to make it hot again and made sure all cats deflea. It hasn’t happened since and that was 2-3 years ago.

It's been wet and very humid. Perfect mozzie weather.

I got bitten dreadfully last week and I stumbled upon this for itchy bites.

I was waking myself up scratching, and fell into a rabbit hole trying to work out the efficacy of hot teaspoons before attempting it, and I discovered it, and it is absolutely fan-fucking-tastic. The hot tea spoon works beautifully as well, but I did burn myself on delicate skin, which frankly was preferable to the bites!

That's because it's an antihistamine @aurynne. I'd rather not take something unnecessarily on the off chance though.

I'm aware of that, I'm a prescriber. I am also aware Cetirizine can be bought over the counter and has minimal side effects, so I personally prefer to take it when I know there's a high chance I'll end up covered in bites.
