People who don't use earphones on public transport

Why do these people think that everyone else wants to listen to their choice of music or whatever video they're watching?

Does anyone on here do this and if so, why? What makes you so entitled?

OP posts:

It’s the worst

It is so so indefensible

And when I ask people to turn it down, they look amazed, or on one occasion vaguely argue back.

Oh this winds me up too! Because of one of these people I got the courtesy of hearing all about how some young Curry's employee had given her boss a blow job at break time and the whole shop had found out so now she wasn't sure if she'd be fired. Never got to hear the end but did feel quite invested by the time she got off the train.

I wouldn’t mind that do much, at least she gave you a narrative arc and a cliffhanger

I was on a bus with someone doing this the other day. I was so annoyed. He was East European so I hesitated to confront him.

Why does that matter ?

Vinorosso74 · 17/09/2023 19:55

So annoying and inconsiderate. I sometimes have my own earphones listening to my music and I can still hear their opera/random YouTube videos/screeching kids on WhatsApp calls/crappie tinny rap/religious sermons etc
I was on a train a couple of weeks ago and this bloke decided to play videos on his phone, a woman had a stern word with him, he turned the volume down then eventually stopped when people were still glaring.

Clymene · 17/09/2023 19:57

I only wear headphones to block out the din from other people

Deathbyfluffy · 17/09/2023 20:01

Real pet hate of mine, as well as the ‘twat pose’ where people use loudspeaker while holding their phone flat and shout into the end of it.

If there’s a child with an iPad or phone blaring out without headphones in a cafe or on public transport I’ll make a point of dealing with it - I don’t care if that makes me a bad person.
I don’t want to hear fucking Bluey while trying to relax you inconsiderate prick 😅

WildFlowerBees · 17/09/2023 20:07

Can anyone who does this that's reading this thread perhaps give a reasonable explanation or just simply tell us that you don't give a shit about others?

I was waiting for my flight a couple of days ago and there was a middle aged lady on FaceTime to her friend no headphones volume up, no fucks given for anyone around her.

greengreengrass25 · 17/09/2023 20:13

Mayor Khan is busy telling us how wonderful public transport is so perhaps he could add this to his campaign

Berlinlover · 17/09/2023 20:24

It’s the norm here in Ireland. I even had to endure it when I was in hospital a few weeks ago. People are shit.

It’s 50% thick and 50% inconsiderate = 100% cunts.

They’re those fuckers who go through life unconcerned and oblivious to anyone but themselves.

viccat · 17/09/2023 20:30

Someone was letting her child watch a really annoying and loud video on the train the other day- it wasn't even anything with a storyline, just a weird screechy sound on repeat. The child wasn't even really watching, just holding the phone on the seat next to them with this noise on full volume. Everyone around was giving her dirty looks and it made no difference.

VesperLynne · 17/09/2023 20:33

Just another reason for avoiding public transport.

I really want to know too. Lots of people in my part of the world make phonecalls with their phone on loudspeaker. They hold the phone in front of their face and kind of shout into the screen. I often wonder why...
Are the worried about brain cancer?
Is the ear speaker on their phone broken perhaps?

I think I’m the only person left alive who is able to speak on the phone by holding it to my ear, like a …. phone.

WildFlowerBees · 17/09/2023 20:40

I think they ought to update phones so the loudspeaker capability is removed. Like the good old days when you put the phone to your ear.

NotFastButFurious · 17/09/2023 20:41

There is definitely a special place in hell for
these people.
next time there’s one on the bus/train (i.e. tomorrow) i’m seriously tempted to start singing out loud*

*reader: I can’t sing for love nor money!!

greengreengrass25 · 17/09/2023 20:43

I find if it is against my ear, my ear touches the controls

I wouldn't dream of speaking on it in public on loudspeaker tbh

mummabubs · 17/09/2023 20:46

I went to London twice last month, first time by coach, second by train- to be honest it's the first time in years I've used public transport other than a quick nip into town and I was genuinely shocked by how common it was for people (all ages, men and women) to think that playing music, tiktok videos or having full on video calls with no headphones was acceptable. It gave me full on rage and by the end of all journeys I hated people. 😂🤦🏻‍♀️

AmandaHoldensLips · 17/09/2023 20:47

I'm afraid I go full Menopausal Woman From Hell every time I'm faced with this, ranging from (very loudly), "Excuse me don't you have some headphones you could plug in?" to "Oi - I bought a train ticket, not a ringside seat to your office."

As for the neanderthal knuckle-dragging moron in the hospital waiting room playing loud moron-games on his phone, it was "REALLY???? HERE???"

Fucking twats. Gives me La Rage.

lljkk · 17/09/2023 20:48

I have officemates who can't be arsed to use headphones in office on TEAMS calls. (sigh)

BitOutOfPractice · 17/09/2023 20:49

Woman at the gym on the treadmill next to me, loud phone conversation on speaker. Jeez I could’ve murdered her!

I suppose you need a brain to get brain cancer in the first place.

randobear · 17/09/2023 20:53

I got told "there's always one karen" when I dared to complain about this on the train...

I did that the other day.

Gormless idiot woman made a face and said " Well, I can't hear it if the sound is down".

Just use the headphones the dear Lord gave you, you idiot moo.

anythinginapinch · 17/09/2023 21:29

Bloke in the train seat in front of me had headphones in, so that was decent if him. But was watching full-on porn. I did lean over the seat and ask him to watch something else as this was a public carriage. He did.
