...what things are solely owned by you?

Not married but if I were to move, I have:

clothes
cosmetics
lots of loo rolls
books
mobile phone, laptop, smart watch and some other technology

Honestly, not much! We got together really young and most things are shared resources. We have both been the higher earner at various stages, but have pooled our money from when we were in our early 20s. I don’t really think I own anything that predates this, to be honest.

Ponderingwindow · 17/09/2023 12:45

Nothing really, but the same is true for him. There is also plenty to go around at this point though so things would just get parceled out.

I do have some accounts that he wouldn’t be able to access without court intervention so if he tried to do a runner with the shared assets I would have something to work with while that was sorted.

Dacadactyl · 17/09/2023 12:49

Tangible things that are mine only....nothing really. Everything is joint/shared. Everything goes in one pot and that's it.

However the majority of our savings are in my name only, even though he is the higher earner.

Dacadactyl · 17/09/2023 12:50

Rhag being said, I doubt he'd want my clothes, underwear, make up and facial waxing strips.

Insertdeadcatsnamehere · 17/09/2023 13:01

The house and the car!

Dontcallmescarface · 17/09/2023 13:21

Everything apart from the house (rented) and the stuff he brought with him. He only moved in 5 years ago and nothing has needed replacing since then so it is all mine.

Albioncreed · 17/09/2023 13:26

got together young… so nearly everything except clothing / toiletries is joint. Even our record collection is mostly joint.

so
clothing
hair appliances
make up and toiletries
migraine stuff
one cup kettle
teasmade

WeWereInParis · 17/09/2023 13:26

Not much, but it's not his either. We have joint finances so everything is just ours.

The car I suppose, simply because he can't drive due to medical reasons. So I'm the registered owner.

SiliconHeaven · 17/09/2023 13:29

@AlrightThen is it normal to think of toilet rolls when you are considering splitting up with someone you live with? I don’t want to be rude or insensitive but it does feel a little odd, sorry.

AffIt · 17/09/2023 13:31

As other PPs have mentioned, we got together young, so more or less everything has been purchased jointly.

The only things I really 'own own' are my car, tech (laptop etc) and personal effects such as clothes jewellery etc.

Actually, that's not quite true: the dish we keep our keys in (actually quite a rare and valuable piece of Spode!) I inherited from my grandparents and I'd want that. 😁

frozendaisy · 17/09/2023 13:38

Be easier to list what is his solely!

frozendaisy · 17/09/2023 13:39

I mean he bought the coffee pot maker, for me, I make 97% of morning coffees so he could prise that out of my cold angry dead hands

SamphiretheTervosaurReturneth · 17/09/2023 13:39

I would guess I'd take the vinyl and stereo and he'd take his shotguns

Everything else would be parcelled out, except clothing I suppose.

BIossomtoes · 17/09/2023 13:53

We’ve been together for 25 years with completely separate finances so I own our bed and he owns the coffee machine. We could easily separate who owns what.

OceanicBoundlessness · 17/09/2023 13:59

A car
A house
My phone and various other bits of tech.
Some decent camping/hiking equipment, stoves etc.
Water sport equipment
A camper/caravan
Lots of books
A large collection of foraged and bought herbs

One day I'm going to be the woman from the change and go and live in the woods..

SleepingStandingUp · 17/09/2023 14:01

Been together 10 years, in our 40s now.

Books, CDs and DVDs
Jewellery
Clothes

No car between us, house rented, furniture brought between us as needed. Kids shared 😆

feliciabirthgiver · 17/09/2023 14:05

With my ex I had absolutely nothing, he cleared all accounts (including spending all the nectar points) he took a load random stuff with him that he obviously thought was point scoring (toaster, hoover, hosepipe, pictures from the wall) and left me with DD and LOTS of debt.
Best thing that ever happened to me, I know own or have everything in my name (car, mortgage etc) and it has been the best life lesson for me, from tiny acorns grow mighty oak trees.

WhisperingHi · 17/09/2023 14:13

We met young and have shared our finances so it would be disingenuous to call some things mine and some things his.

I guess the following would be mine:
Car (both are in my name though)
Clothes
My savings
Mobile phone
Jewellery
Kitchen appliances.

In reality, knowing his personality, I would keep the vast majority of our stuff as he lives minimally and whilst he's financially contributed towards most things, I've actively chosen most items.

Our main asset is our house which we own equally. And like I said, our cars which are actually in my name.

ICanBuyMyOwnBooks · 17/09/2023 14:14

I have quite a lot because I had a lot before we were married and then inherited some furniture when my parents died. So:
a car; an apartment/flat; bookcases, bureaus, bedroom furniture set (bedside cabinets, dressing table, chest of drawers) rocking chair; books, books and more books; musical instruments; phone, laptops; jewellery; paintings, prints; kitchen equipment eg breadmaker, baking 'stuff'.
Then obviously the basics like clothes, shoes, suitcases, etc.

BIossomtoes · 17/09/2023 14:36

I’ve just realised I don’t own a sofa - despite the house containing three. Better hope he stays!

WhyHasAllTheRumGone · 17/09/2023 14:38

The dog!

IncompleteSenten · 17/09/2023 14:45

My clothes, toothbrush, hairbrush, hairdryer, handbag, makeup, my glasses (distance and reading) my phone, my laptop, my work tools and my craft stuff. That's about it I think. Everything to do with the house is ours jointly.

bookworm44 · 17/09/2023 14:48

My car, dog, premium bonds & an ISA

AlrightThen · 17/09/2023 14:55

@SiliconHeaven

You're not rude or insensitive, mostly because I don't care honestly but it is odd, you're right.

Some of them are 4 ply, some of them 3 ply. All different brands, stocked up behind or under my bed. There's no place for them now so I put a stop to it.

It's because life is underwhelming and overwhelming at the same time.
