Good Morning All! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just brewing my pot of tea, and about to have some breakfast. The window's open & the birds are chirping away. No-one else is up so it's nice and peaceful down here for now.

I've got a fairly chill day planned - lots of little jobs to do but all at a very slow pace.

I'm going to finish my Each, Peach, Pear, Plum peg dolls, send a couple of Vinted parcels, and nip to Lidl with dd1. Plus I want to do some more beading on my Eras Tour garter project.

Dd1 has Lit homework to be done, and dd2 has some Maths she needs help with so I'll have a look at that with her.

I've got a gammon in the slow cooker for tea. Not sure what we're having with it yet. Maybe as a roast, with cheese sauce 😋

Later it'll be early showers all round & earlyish nights. Dd2 got up in the night to watch someone's livestream of Adele's Vegas residency so will definitely need it!

What about all of you? 🙂

DD8 just been dropped back after rugby, she's sweaty and filthy so will persuade her into the bath/shower. Whilst she was out I loaded dishwasher and hung uniform out to dry and chucked swimming stuff into wash. We'll have a quick lunch then the battle to get her to her do her English homework will commence! We'll go to messy church later this afternoon. I have to attempt the first hair wash and style since having mine cut, so might make it a bit of a general pamper session and have bath with face mask/paint nails etc.

Jackydaytona · 17/09/2023 12:09

I had to take ds1 to pick up his favourite jacket he left at a house party last night 🙄

Done a load of washing

Popped to shops

I intend to spend the rest of the day reading 📚

CoodleMoodle · 17/09/2023 12:13

DC have been painting this morning. They got it all out last night (half an hour before bed, of course!) and didn't get to do much, so I said they could continue today.

Currently having lunch, DS is watching Hey Duggee, DD Horrible Histories, DH clips of Taskmaster on YouTube. I'm going to have a little snooze!

After lunch we're going swimming, then it's baths. I've got to change the sheets on their beds, and make sure their uniforms are ready.

Recovering!!!

Took the eldest back to Uni in London yesterday. 700 miles driven in total, left at 7am, back home by 10:45pm. A little over an hour in London, enough time to unload, have a coffee and get back on the road, left him drinking beer and on his Xbox.

Today will be crashed in the lounge, watching the F1 with endless posh coffee to keep me going.

I am lying around feeling a bit crap post chemo. Sluggish, achey and not enthused to do much. DH is having a lie in, the kids are up and gaming. My goal for the day: shower.

I think DH has plans to nip over to a friend's at some point so at least one of us will get out. And he's cooking a curry later 😋

We will endeavour to prise the DC off their screens at some point too. 🤨 wish us luck with that one...

I hope you feel better soon. Chemo really wipes you out, i know from personal experience. Enjoy your shower.

AllotmentTime · 17/09/2023 13:52

@HenryCavillsWife hows it's going?

@Bbq1 thank you that's kind of you 🙂 I managed the shower! 🥳

lucysmam · 17/09/2023 14:56

@ssd I've just plonked the gammon in the slow cooker - nothing in with it. Dd1's decided we're having eggs, pineapple, beans and chips with it.

My friend sometimes cooks it in Coke I think.

i'm doing a 12 hour shift in operating theatre on my first break since 0745

HenryCavillsWife · 17/09/2023 15:40

@AllotmentTime

You are really sweet to ask. :) It helped writing those 2 lists as I realised I didn't want to end today feeling crap. So I did the first list! I feel amazing!

Love this happy (and now officially Life-Changing) thread.

Silkiebunny · 17/09/2023 17:10

Good luck with the induction BritishDesiGirl how lovely to be having a baby.

Hope you are recovering from chemo AllotmentTime and can take it very easy.

Have kitchen fitters in and have cleaned the kitchen as very dusty and taken a nice bath.

NonMiDispiace · 17/09/2023 17:16

@ssd and @lucysmam the easiest, yummiest slow cooker gammon is to put a layer of brown sugar in the bottom of the slow cooker, place gammon on top and coat the top of it with more brown sugar. Cook on low until cooked through (depending on size)
It’s utterly delicious, it makes a bbq like sauce.

NonMiDispiace · 17/09/2023 17:28

Rather late to the thread 🙄, good afternoon everyone!
Up and out for a dog walk early because of weather forecast, daft dog enjoyed herself doing zoomies with her ball - we walked everywhere picking it up because bringing it back isn’t in her repertoire!
Then met a young Labrador so that set her off again- she’s been flat out asleep all afternoon.
We had venison stew in the slow cooker for dinner, roasted parsnips and mash, beans and peas and I have done absolutely nothing all afternoon.
Vaguely thinking about sorting out my winter clothes, I have quite a few summer clothes that can go to the charity shop as I barely wore a lot of them.
I should do some watercolour painting because I have a residential course next week, not particularly enthusiastic I have to admit.
Dog will want a walk shortly I’m sure!
Enjoy your evening everyone!

Caring I agree about being sad at the end of the cricket season, my DS lives for cricket and I love seeing his enthusiasm (now 23 and back at home with his 'home' team after playing for the Uni team thirds Grin). But he was unexpectedly called up to play in a charity match this afternoon and I watched the first half and he played the best game of his season Grin. Two wickets and a catch ... before we left so maybe more results to hear about when he gets home.

AllotmentTime · 17/09/2023 17:57

@NonMiDispiace got a recipe for that by any chance? Sounds lush 😋

@HenryCavillsWife good for you 😁 I related a lot to your first post!!

AllotmentTime · 17/09/2023 18:15

That looks amazing but I actually meant the venison stew 😂 sorry didn't spot you had posted both!! Clearly you are the thread chef 😁

AllotmentTime · 17/09/2023 18:59

Brilliant thank you! 😋👍

@AllotmentTime theimprovingcook.com/2015/11/slow-cooker-brown-sugar-gammon
i use it every time, never fails!

I cant get that to open but i think i cooked similar today

lucysmam · 17/09/2023 20:34

@NonMiDispiace thanks for the recipe links - we'll try the brown sugar gammon next time! I was just saying to the girls the other day we should maybe use the slow cooker more when I go back to work so I'll have a look for other things to try on those sites too.

@AllotmentTime I hope you managed your shower. I headed for an afternoon nap before we had tea 💤

I'm just considering whether to pick up my beading or not 🤔 I'm meant to be finding a new top for dd2 but not finding much I think she'll like 🙄
