None, but I’m not here to judge and I realise you didn’t ask me as you specifically stated ‘if you smoke’.

Can I ask though, how long does it take to smoke let’s say, 20 a day? I think that’s a pack. And how much does it cost? Genuinely curious. I imagine maybe £5 for a pack and maybe 2 mins a cig so 40 mins a day of smoking? Perhaps I’m wildly wrong…

Why do people think a vape is better?

It doesnt have tar, for one!

I am pregnant, so I quit a few weeks ago, but before that I was smoking anywhere between 3 and 15 straights a day, averaging about 7/10 a day.

Unsure if I will go back to smoking once baby is born.. I dont crave it, but I miss it terribly! 😂

StEtienne93 · 13/09/2023 00:02

I smoke anywhere between 5-10 rollies a day depending on if I'm socialising etc. I've been gradually switching to vaping, but only like the elf bars. Absolutely panicked at the thought of disposable vapes being banned as they were supposed to be my ticket out of being a smoker.

KievLoverTwo · 13/09/2023 01:18

SaltyCrisps · 12/09/2023 20:33

Thanks Nutterjacks. I’ve not tried the menthol ones.

Very hard for the first month. Piece of piss thereafter.

Make sure you are not starting on the wrong mg of nicotine. Starting on 12 usually works.

KievLoverTwo · 13/09/2023 01:25

Used to be 20-40 a day but now vape. Occasionally my brain throws all the toys out of the pram and I might have 2 in one evening and none for a month. Best year was probably four fags in an entire year.

Now at the end of my patience with vaping after 7 years and want to give that up too. The kit is getting worse quality, the parts harder to find and often discontinued and I don't get any pleasure from it at all.

Incidentally, mum died of lung cancer two years ago. Poor woman gave up three years before dying. That wasn't my motivator. My motivator was a nurse in my mid 30s telling me she would really like me to give up before I turn 40 because after that age my odds of getting cancer triple. That shocked me into doing it after decades of trying unsuccessfully to quit.

Thank god for the vape.

I am sorry for those who try and try and just cannot. I know how painfully hard it is.

Nat6999 · 13/09/2023 03:38

I was a social smoker, usually just smoked when I went out. Haven't smoked since dp died, now vape.

TruthThatsHardAsSteel · 13/09/2023 05:48

Palindrone · 12/09/2023 18:44

Are we talking joints here or just tobacco?

That's what I'm confused by. To me rollies are tobacco only. Joints Are joints.

Lahdedahiam · 13/09/2023 06:54

tabulahrasa · 12/09/2023 16:53

I was on just over 20 a day for 30 odd years till about 6 months ago when they went up again... I just couldn’t justify spending that much, so I switched to vapes.

Out of interest, do you think if vapes didn't exist you would've given up completely? So are vapes a hindrance or a help?

ShadyPaws · 13/09/2023 07:08

@Lahdedahiam not who you quoted but I would never have managed to quit without a vape
I'm addicted to nicotine and I'm comfortable with that, but vaping is a better option
Patches/gum etc never worked before

FindingMeno · 13/09/2023 07:16

About 15 tobacco only rollies a day. Don't like weed, don't like real cigarettes, don't like vaping.
I've stopped for 3 years, 5 years and pregnancies, and I know I could do it again, but at the moment I enjoy it.

No, I wouldn’t have stopped, I had no real plans to stop even after buying a vape. I was originally just thinking, I could try a vape and see if I can buy fewer cigarettes... they happen to be good enough that I’ve swapped completely.

@StEtienne93 I use an elf bar pod system, they’re pretty much as easy as the disposables and have all their flavours, you just buy the rechargeable main bit and swap out the pods when the liquid runs out.

SaltyCrisps · 13/09/2023 10:48

I bet she's never ever even heard of cancer being caused by smoking. Thank god you have highlighted this.

😂

Thank you all those who have told me it's not too difficult to swap to vaping. I'll give it a try this week Flowers

Hi there. I'm not the OP but can tell you that it currently costs (sit down...) almost £13 per packet. Yes, nuts... I smoke about 20 per day but not one after another. I have one when I get up and smoke them periodically through the day until bed time.

ncob · 14/09/2023 15:55

@SaltyCrisps thanks. how long does it take per cigarette? just trying to gage how much timer a smoker spends.. smoking?

The thing is... there’s only one or two a day where that’s what your main activity, which is a weird word to use for smoking 🤣

As in, unless you’re going outside - you smoke while doing things. Like you might stop something for a coffee and to smoke, but really it’s the coffee that takes the time.

and, people smoke faster or slower than each other as well.

Around 5 minutes if I'm doing it leisurely/purely for pleasure /in my own time.

So on a day off , 100 minutes throughout the day.

hayu19 · 23/11/2023 22:36

10-15 a day, absolutely loved it but have given up recently. I do miss it though!

Blanketpolicy · 23/11/2023 23:02

Used to be 20-25 B&H Superkings but gave up when they were still £4.something a packet.

I gave up cold turkey at 35 when I found out I was pg. It took a good 4 years for the cravings to subside.

I've never personally known anyone with cancer from smoking but watched two relatives, one my dad, suffering for years and dying with copd and I wouldnt wish that on anyone.

Dianehb · 31/01/2024 13:51

My DH and myself both smoke about 20 a day.

LindorDoubleChoc · 31/01/2024 13:59

LindorDoubleChoc · 12/09/2023 21:00

I'm a lapsed non-smoker. I've given up for a year at least 5 times including pregnancies and most recently for 8+ years. Currently on 0 to 7 per day. Really need to get a grip again.

I'm quoting myself to have a proud moment. I had my last cigarette on 23 December 2023, so I think that's coming up to 6 weeks and I have to consider myself a non-smoker again.

I do miss it though! I only ever give up for the health reasons, I can cope with the cost and the faint smell of smoke in my hair. As I wasn't a heavy smoker none of it was too awful Sad.

I find it harder than Dry January (which I've also done) tbh!
