3 rollies every evening and a few vape puffs in between. Hoping it’s not enough to affect my health much. I tell myself I cancel it out by swimming and working out. Been doing this for 30 years.

SaltyCrisps · 12/09/2023 18:50

About 20

SaltyCrisps · 12/09/2023 20:13

You smokers who have swapped to vapes, or cut right down and started vaping, how difficult was it? I really need to make the effort to switch but my addiction tells me it'll be too difficult.

Thehuntess · 12/09/2023 15:02

No I don't stress at all. Not worried about dying but would rather not get lung/ cancer of the mouth or oesophagus
Could you cope if you got this and knew you could of had years had you not smoked ?
Yes anyone get cancer but it's foolish to not know smoking can increase your chances significantly

Seriously?

I don't smoke but use to when I was younger.

My mum could have had years if she didn't get cancer.

It was nothing to do with smoking - she didn't. She had a good healthy and active lifestyle.

It's really awful when you see people contribute dying of cancer with smoking. Yes it increases types of cancer risk. But plenty of people die young of cancer despite not smoking.

itsgettingweird · 12/09/2023 20:25

Oh and answer to your question when I smoked 10-20 a day. But back then it was cheaper - and I lived abroad so even cheaper!

adriftabroad · 12/09/2023 20:31

When I smoked, it was always 20 (a packet) a day.

I found it very easy switching from cigarettes to vapes. Couldn't get on with the tobacco or fruity flavours, I find the menthol varieties best.

SaltyCrisps · 12/09/2023 20:33

Thanks Nutterjacks. I’ve not tried the menthol ones.

OneMoreCookieMonster · 12/09/2023 20:34

On and off secret smoker here. I would smoke at work, before getting on my London bound train (yes - I am that person) before my journey home or on a night out. On a busy day 6 in total on a quiet day 12. Sometimes only 2 and quite often none at all.

Currently pp so have the occasional sneaky vape. And, yes of course I quit while pregnant.

I can stop whenever I want without any issues or side effects. I've been doing this for 20 years now.

BrownJenkins · 12/09/2023 20:52

About 10-15 a day.
I can afford it and I know the health risks.

i literally just decided to buy a vape one day and haven’t had a cigarette since.

I do miss the flavour of them sometimes, but I have a sweet tooth so I’m good with all the fruit flavours and everything other than that tobacco flavour of a vape hits the smoking spot - so yeah, really easy.

I wasn’t exactly intending to stop smoking, so in the back of my mind I can buy cigarettes any time I want to, that helps too, lol.

I just bought a couple of disposables to see if they’d work, tried a proper refillable one - wasn’t a fan, ended up with the elf bar pods. I’ve and sour hit your throat better and real sweet ones like candy floss are IMO bad.

Thehuntess · 12/09/2023 14:56

Why though? Why do this to yourself?
Do you not worry about cancer ?

I bet she's never ever even heard of cancer being caused by smoking. Thank god you have highlighted this.

LindorDoubleChoc · 12/09/2023 21:00

I'm a lapsed non-smoker. I've given up for a year at least 5 times including pregnancies and most recently for 8+ years. Currently on 0 to 7 per day. Really need to get a grip again.

Why do people think a vape is better?

Because it's around 95% safer with no tar. Backed by cancer research, NHS, public health England and a load of studies
And TBH anything is better than smoking

AngryGreasedSantaCatcus · 12/09/2023 21:39

Me having a meltdown isn't.Grin

Why do people think a vape is better?

Because everything seems to indicate that it is better for you than smoking.

“Vaping is not completely risk-free, but it poses a small fraction of the risk of smoking cigarettes. The long-term risks of vaping are not yet clear.
E-cigarettes do not produce tar or carbon monoxide, two of the most harmful elements in tobacco smoke.”

https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/quit-smoking/using-e-cigarettes-to-stop-smoking/

“Many studies show that vaping is far less harmful than smoking. This is because e-cigarettes don’t contain cancer-causing tobacco, and most of the toxic chemicals found in cigarettes are not in e-cigarettes.
Some potentially harmful chemicals have been found in e-cigarettes. But levels are usually low and generally far lower than in tobacco cigarettes.
There is no good evidence that vaping causes cancer.”

When I smoked it was around 10 a day.

Bluebellsarepink · 12/09/2023 21:41

I'm an NHS Smoking Cessation Advisor if anyone wants any info (not at all to push quitting on anyone)

ShyCity · 12/09/2023 21:41

I gave up 10 years ago, but I was a 10-a-day smoker for years (20 on a night out!)

B1rd · 12/09/2023 22:03

and 11 hours later the OP never came back to answer any queries.

AlanJohnsonsBeemer · 12/09/2023 22:10

1 or 2 in the week when wfh, none at the weekend when at home as DC around, approximately 9000 on a rare night out. Roll ups. I do use nicotine lozenges sometimes too/instead. I was vaping instead but got hopelessly addicted to it, so packed it all in and got fat. It’s a never ending cycle for me

yumyumscheeky · 12/09/2023 22:27

I am definitely a smoker as some days I could do 30, especially if I'm drinking. They literally go hand in hand!
But then other times I just don't fancy it and can go two to three days with none.

Crinkle77 · 12/09/2023 22:29

I smoke but only part time 😂 So if I have a drink or when I go to work in the office (as opposed to wfh). All in all about 3 days a week. On the days I go to the office I'll have about 5/6 a day but I could smoke 10 of more on a Friday night with a few drinks. I could probably give up but as soon as a say I'm giving up I want them all the time.

QueSyrahSyrah · 12/09/2023 22:38

Used to smoke cigarettes, and maybe 5-6 on an average day, more when drinking.

Now I've only been smoking HEETS since January and it can be none at all, or 2-3, or like today when I've had a couple of drinks, 8-10.

BarryK3nt · 12/09/2023 22:42

When I smoked it was only about 5-7 a day and now I vape basically constantly! Probably worse for me.
