Is this what kidney stones feel like?

Or is it something else?

About 9.45 last night I started to get an excruciating pain on my left side of my stomach. It still hurts now. It’s at the front and back and both are incredibly painful. I cannot find a comfortable place to sit or lay. I’ve had about an hours sleep. I’ve vomited aswell.

I’ve maxed out on painkillers that I can take at home… I was tempted to call 111 last night not long after it started, but dh said there wouldn’t be any point as they wouldn’t send anyone out for stomach pains for an hour.

Im so uncomfortable.

I had gallstones and the pain and discomfort sounded a bit like this. It's like a band of pain and incredibly sore. Don't know if this would work for you but I found a sugary drink, like a can of coke or a glass of hot water with six/seven teaspoons of sugar relieved it a bit.
You can also buy buscopan which is an antispasmodic over the counter.
Hope this helps.

RichPetunia · 12/09/2023 03:58

Also I would phone 111.

Soubriquet · 12/09/2023 04:01

I’m gonna get medical advice when everyone is awake. I can’t live like this.

I too had gallstones and it was like this. Unbelievable pain.

Hope you get some relief and answers soon.

MissSmiley · 12/09/2023 05:02

Gallstones aren't normally left hand side, usually upper right pain.

RebeccaCloud9 · 12/09/2023 05:11

My gallstone/pancreatitis pain was central, felt like I needed to burp (just waaaaay worse).

My (right) kidney stone pain was in my lower back, base of ribs on the right hand side. But you can get a kidney stone in either kidney!

By stomach, do you mean lower abdomen, or higher where your actual stomach is? If higher, I'd guess gallstones more likely, if lower, kidney.

Soubriquet · 12/09/2023 05:11

Lower. Like just about the hip bone

I’ve birthed two children and this feels way worse

Soubriquet · 12/09/2023 05:48

And I’ve been sick again. Sad

My kidney stones were higher than near the hip but were definitely the most excruciating natural pain I've known, despite the stone being so small it didn't even show on an X-ray. I was doubled up in pain.

Cocoaone · 12/09/2023 06:21

Call 111. You could have a twisted or burst ovary cyst, which can cause internal bleeding.

Romeiswheretheheartis · 12/09/2023 06:59

Sounds like when I had kidney stones. I was on all fours, vomiting with pain too. It was horrific. I called for an ambulance when it became unbearable, and got taken to hospital. Even when they put me on morphine the pain wouldn't go. I really feel for you.

BlackJumpsuit · 12/09/2023 07:01

Hip bone sounds like ovaries.
Call 111 for sure!!

Mindymomo · 12/09/2023 07:05

I think 111 would advise you to go to A&E so tests can be carried out asap. I would go early, you need answers if you’ve been in chronic pain this long.

determinedtomakethiswork · 12/09/2023 07:08

My friend had this, and it was an ovarian cyst torsion. I think you need to get it checked out immediately, and if I were you, I would insist on them scanning it rather than assuming anything.

Soubriquet · 12/09/2023 07:13

I’ve called them. I’ve either got a clinician calling me back within 30 mins or an ambulance will be here with 30 mins. Hoping it’s the ambo so I can get some form of painkillers

OP posts:
RebeccaCloud9 · 12/09/2023 07:22

If you don't hear back, can you go in to an urgent care/walk in centre or a and e? Please don't just wait around for too long.

When I had gallstones and pancreatitis, I called 111. I was in pain, vomiting and had turned yellow. They said not to go in, someone would call me back within 4 hours. My husband made me ignore this and we went in. I was diagnosed and admitted to hospital within 30 minutes of arriving. 111 finally called me back over 8 hours later and in the middle of the night. I missed the call and the voicemail essentially just said 'as you haven't answered, we are closing the case'. When I had kidney stones, I couldn't even get 111 to answer before we gave up and phoned an ambulance. I will never use 111 again.

Inspirationpending · 12/09/2023 07:24

I’m currently in hospital with kidney stones
Never felt pain like it
your symptoms sound very like mine
hope you get sorted soon

Ivebeentogeorgia · 12/09/2023 07:31

Can your DH drive you to a and e?

Soubriquet · 12/09/2023 07:52

Clinician called, she booked an ambulance.

Then ambulance crew called and let me know there was a 10 hour wait and could I make my way there. When I said I genuinely couldn’t, she’s booked me a taxi which is coming from 85 mins away… least something is coming. The taxi journey is going to kill me in agony but at least I’ll get there quicker

OP posts:
Soubriquet · 12/09/2023 14:21

I’ve been here since about 10.30 and I’m still waiting. The clinic has been stupidly busy. I didn’t get any pain relief till about 1.30. I was writhing in the pain, in tears and pretty much ignored. We have a reception here where you sit down, you get triaged, pain relief, blood tests etc but you’re still in the waiting room.

It’s been awful. Now waiting for an x-ray

I got kidney stones - oxalate so from eating too many almonds and spinach etc etc. Also when I got my dog I drank way less water as I was out walking her and didn't want to need the loo. Water is the best thing you can do for them - just drink loads of it. if that's what they are. Though what you are experiencing definitely sounds familiar. I had about 7 rounds of lithotripsy at UCH Westmoreland st and think mine are gone, but I'm back for an ultrasound later this year. Hope you get an answer soon, and a treatment plan.

TheNoodlesIncident · 12/09/2023 17:18

@Soubriquet How are you doing now? I really hope you've been seen, x rayed and given more painkillers...

It sounds ghastly from start to finish, you poor thing Flowers

Soubriquet · 12/09/2023 17:35

Well, they decided against the x-ray and I’m now waiting for a CT instead. They are going on the theory of my appendix. They would normally do an ultrasound but I’m in too much pain to tolerate one

OP posts:
weegiemum · 12/09/2023 18:47

Sounds awful. You poor thing. I had kidney stones in pregnancy and it was horrendous pain, I was really pleased to get to labour as it wasn't that painful! Here's hoping you get an answer soon!

Clefable · 12/09/2023 18:49

Hope you get an answer soon, OP!

When I've had kidney stones, the pain is in my lower back and sides and it's incredibly painful for sure. I just guzzle water like mad and try to pass it asap. The relief when it moves is amazing.
