Nissan Qashqai, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage: Are there any other such good value cars like these with a high seat position?

I don't really want an SUV but I do like the high seat position, good legroom and large boot that these cars offer.
Is there any other similar cars that offer these features at similar price?
I'm looking to buy a second hand car for 13/14 thousand, 4/5 years old, 40/50 thousand miles.
Any suggestions appreciated?

Following this for ideas. I have a C3 Picasso which I love for its high seating position, big windows, huge boot, and compact footprint. But it's getting on and I need to look for a replacement. But nothing I've found comes close, without being huge.

For me, boxy is good. Lots of headroom and lots of space. But it's no longer fashionable. Now cars have small windows, narrow tops, and stupid, pointless 'hips' to make parking harder without adding to internal space.

We have an MG zs ( and a Kia Soul ) . The MG is very competitively priced and has a large boot , I’m quite enjoying mine . I’d have gone for another Soul but they don’t make them in petrol anymore .

We have a Honda CRV and love it. Tons of room, lovely to drive.

I thought I wanted a Nissan Qashqui till I sat in one and absolutely hated it

It felt really squished up in the front

It looks nice but is a couple grand more expensive in the range I'm looking at.

Just got rid of mine. Replaced it with a VW Tiguan which has a much better driving positon. Could never get the CRV high enough or upright enough.

I love my Dacia Duster. I've had mine 4.5 years. Can fit 3 teens in the back, plenty of boot space, lovely to drive, never given me any bother.

nightm8re · 10/09/2023 03:55

I would reconsider on Dacia.

I have a Sandero Stepway new model and we are astounded how great it is for the price. Would recommend you look at Duster through for your needs (drove one of these while car in garage and seemed to have quite a lot of extra gadgets, not basic at all!)

Even my stepway at 1L has absolutely no issue with pace when full of people and luggage, so duster would be absolutely fine.

Don’t get a Mokka for boot space! Fine for us as a couple with dog but nightmare when baby has come along. Grandland is much better all round.

Mrstwiddle · 10/09/2023 04:17

Mazda CX3, it's one of the best compact SUV's out there and has good mileage.

ScandiNoirNuit · 10/09/2023 08:02

We have both qashqai and Tucson and Tucson has much larger boot, if that is a consideration.

Hyundai Santa Fe.

I LOVED our Santa Fe! It just felt very well thought out, and I particularly loved the flat boot - so much easier to get stuff in and out especially buggies etc. Also loved the driving position and the flexibility of putting up the extra seats in the boot.

Having said that, we have a Skoda.Octavia now which I also bloody love.

The Dacia Duster has very poor safety ratings. I would avoid.

We looked at a qashqai some time ago and was surprised how small it was inside, all car and no inside it seemed.

Mum5net · 10/09/2023 09:24

Google ‘car dimensions comparison’ and you will find uk sites that compare height and boot space.
don’t think anyone has suggested the Nissan Juke for high road position

Yes - ours always felt like a TARDIS in reverse! Teens hated it for its lack of legroom in the back. Couldn't get 3 in there for journeys of more than about 10 minutes. The inside of the car was so bulky! Just got a Seat Ateca which externally is smaller, but is so much more roomy inside.

Grand land is a lovely car. I had the Turbo X, couldn't fault it

Yep. The Duster was #1 on my list until I saw the safety rating. 3 * out of 5 in this day and age is really poor. I wouldn't want to drive my grandkids in a 3 *star safety rated car, when virtually every other choice has 5

Fairyduck · 10/09/2023 16:27

Might be a bit above budget - but there really is a reason why there are so many VW Tiguans on the road. Great leg room in the back too for 6ft+ teens.

It's so small and squished inside isn't it

After sitting in it I realised I had to check in every car that there was enough space at the back for 6ft DS and taller because there certainly wasn't in the Qashqai. I have absolutely no idea why it's so popular other than it looks quite nice on the outside otherwise it's not giving me any positive vibes
