Nissan Qashqai, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage: Are there any other such good value cars like these with a high seat position?

UlezSchmulez · 09/09/2023 18:52

I don't really want an SUV but I do like the high seat position, good legroom and large boot that these cars offer.
Is there any other similar cars that offer these features at similar price?
I'm looking to buy a second hand car for 13/14 thousand, 4/5 years old, 40/50 thousand miles.
Any suggestions appreciated?

Skoda Karoq. Massive boot, rear seats can be removed if necessary, as well as folded down. I loved mine.

Dacia have a less than optimum safety rating.

i have a vw tiguan. previously had a kuga. liked both but prefer the vw.

Unfortunately the Tiguans are a fair bit more expensive

Another vote for Renault Kadjar, bought a 16 plate 40k on the clock for 9.5k this year.

If boot size is important, the boot in MIL's Qashqai is much smaller than the boot in our Tucson. It's a nice car though.

BeakerCupSaucerEggs · 09/09/2023 22:21

Love our Tucson. Child’s seat, two dogs, me at 5ft, hubs at 6ft and plenty of boot space for shopping, drinks etc. It works well for both our heights and even if DH has to sit in the back there’s plenty of space.

ours also has a cooler glove box which means we get cold drinks available instead of having to buy them as we are out.

HelpMeUnpickThis · 09/09/2023 22:23

Hyundai Santa Fe.

illiterato · 09/09/2023 22:25

Sportage is the absolute tops. Even my friend who works for McLaren says you can’t do better for the price. Absolutely love mine.

We had a qashqai then got a BMW 2 series as we needed 7 seats. It has a high driving seat like the qashqai, and is a really reliable car. Not an SUV but lots of space and nice features and a really nice family car.

clpsmum · 09/09/2023 22:32

Quashquia is the worst car I've ever had. I'm counting down the days til I'm rid of the piece of crap

Seeline · 09/09/2023 22:35

@clpsmum I agree! I've never found anyone else who didn't like the qashqai though. I finally got rid of mine a few months ago after 9 long years. It drove badly, was poorly designed and cramped. I love my new Seat.

UndercoverCop · 09/09/2023 22:36

My mum has a mokka x, I was with her when she bought it. It depends how much space you need, I have one DS and no dogs and would consider it. The salesman told us it's a compact SUV (fine for DM with occasional grandchildren) and that it's essentially an astra footprint lifted up with some extra bodywork stuck on. The grandland was much bigger

Anneta · 09/09/2023 22:36

I am very tall and need a good head height and room for my mobility scooter. I currently drive the BMW 2 series, which is perfect. I’ve just ordered the Seat Ateca. Previously I’ve driven the Ford BMax which had loads of room. I wanted a Ford CMax but they ceased production.

Me neither tbh everyone seems to rave about them! I hate it I'm going to order a new car on Friday and it can't come quick enough!

Bumbles78 · 09/09/2023 22:42

I have a quashqai and love it. Drives well, comfortable and large boot. 2 other people I know have just brought one. Kuga is not good for mpg

TriceratopsRocks · 09/09/2023 22:43

You said you didn't really want an SUV so I'm going to suggest the VW Touran. High position, good leg room, fantastic boot space, flexible interior and fits tall people! I'm on my 2nd, and love it.

Santasjingleballs · 09/09/2023 22:45

BMW X5 !

Drunkenblethering · 09/09/2023 22:46

Toyota Rav- incredibly comfortable, loads of space (have 2 big teenagers who travelled for 6 hours in the back without complaining or killing each other,), boot is huge and it’s surprisingly good on fuel for a big car. I love mine & going to keep it til it dies! Bit more expensive- paid £14k for 6 yr old but it has loads of fancy bits on it!

anothercupparosytea · 09/09/2023 22:50

The Tucson is a great car. Nice to drive, very roomy inside and big boot space.

Snippit · 09/09/2023 22:51

We’ve just changed our car and I miss it so much. It was a BMW X1 2018 Reg, we’d had it on lease and could have bought it for 15k, sadly we couldn’t afford it.

it is the most beautiful drive, I don’t rave about cars they just don’t interest me generally. I put fuel in them and they get me from A to B. It was a diesel, great MPG, and just a fabulous all round car. Both my husband and myself miss it, we have never ever felt like this about a car.

We took a picture of it before handing it back. Have a look at one and have a test drive.

UlezSchmulez · 09/09/2023 22:56

Thanks but VW Touran, Toyota RAV4 and BMW anything are out of my price range.

I could of wrote this exact comment!
I know of multiple Nissan owners, they're all crap not just the model.

VW, Seat and Audi share basically the same parts. Audi cars are pricey but they generally last and live a long time *not an expert.

Ford do an Ecosport which is a smaller style of the Kuga. However they aren't very powerful as they're built on the same chassis as the fiesta but are heavier cars. So you need 2nd gear uphill.

The Peugeot 3008 is an SUV style however not sure what price bracket they are.

Seat Tarraco was only released in the late 18/19 so unlikely to have dropped in price to fit the price bracket (and I probably wouldn't trust the odd one that has) but SEAT as a brand, good solid cars with a cheaper price tag than Audi but built mechanically the same.

Any car you buy new or old is a financial loss. But it needs to be a worthwhile investment.

Test drive all different cars, and check the market for the same car in different places. Autotrader is great for this.
And some of it is luck. I did all the research and still ended up with a terrible car. *I'm no expert or qualified in anyway with cars.

yumscrummy · 10/09/2023 00:00

Kia venga, much smaller car but doesn't feel it.

I have a 67 plate 1.6 diesel Qashqai and I like it. Bought it at nearly 4 years old with 32k on the clock in 2021. Has been great so far. It replaced a 13 year old Audi a3 sport back with 175k on the clock that I’d had from new.

I love the height and it drives well with good power. Boot space is fine, we got 2 large suitcases and 2 cabin cases in it when going on holiday. No complaints so far although I don’t expect it to live as long or as trouble free as the Audi.
