Those Clarke’s shoes are the most horrendous ugly shoes I’ve ever seen

Hmm, but they may be small sizes, but they still require labour to manufacture and then retail costs to sell. How much would you expect shoes for infants to cost? At what quality and at what conditions for the workers? Admittedly I don't know anything about Clarks' production conditions.

I'll admit that these look expensive for what they are. I don't really 'get' crepe soles - they don't look that durable or like they provide a good grip, and they have a weird smell, at least when new.

For toddler shoes I never really paid more than a tenner because they grew out of them really quickly. I'm not an expert on sweatshops and the working conditions of those making our clothes and shoes and I'm not going to pretend it doesn't exist but I do know that simply costing more doesn't automatically mean that those conditions are going to be better for those making them.

Clarks charge crazy prices for kids shoes. Outlets are great if you live near one, the problem is many people don't. Our nearest one is two hours away. I've stopped getting dc Clarks as they just don't last anymore. The quality has gone down, and price has gone up. It will be interesting to see if they stay in business.

I bought some Geox teenage school shoes from JL for £50. For work. Rather than shelling out £80-90 for a pair of Clark's.

RJnomore1 · 05/09/2023 15:30

Wallabies are massively trendy unlike most Clarks shoes. Originals have a big cult following, I think they’ve even done some cross over ranges.

2jacqi · 05/09/2023 15:37

£160!!! that is ridiculous!! try flyflot or I think Padders. more reasonable prices!!!!

I would rather spend that in Ecco shoe shop.

Ecco are absolutely fantastic quality. They have their own tanneries and have control of the whole production process.

paradoxicalfrog · 05/09/2023 15:48

Keep an eye on the Clarks outlet store.

Do the soles of their shoes still crumble? I've thrown so many pairs away in the past because the soles had split and crumbled and won't buy them any more.

Can’t say I’ve ever had that problem so can’t comment, I’m afraid.

Rubyupbeat · 05/09/2023 15:54

Sorry but that's not expensive. Clark's have always been priced higher than most everyday brands, they lasted longer too (although going by mumsnet, the quality isnt there anymore)
I live in skechers (inc the fake ones) and Birkenstock, which in the style I have always worn for 30+ years, can now cost up to 150 quid!

Snoken · 05/09/2023 12:34

I think because it's leather and not pleather. Although, I have never bought anything other than school shoes at Clarks so I don't know what they would normally cost.

They don't usually have any arch support though so not great for kids

BenoitsBriocheFeuilletee · 05/09/2023 16:03

@paradoxicalfrog I had three pairs of Eccos which were fine for several years, not bought at the same time.

Last winter I took them out of their summer storage (boxes under the bed) and the soles on each pair crumbled the first time I wore them.

ParentingSolo · 05/09/2023 16:05

£160 for granny loafers?!

cocksstrideintheevening · 05/09/2023 16:07

They're Walabees though. You're not going to pick them up in TK Maxx. I have a pair of the suede originals and LOVE them. Those loafers are ugly though.

m00rfarm · 05/09/2023 16:08

I have moved over to Skechers - I really find their shoes comfortable, and so often they are in the sale and I can buy for the following year (fashion follower that I am ...)

I'm glad you said that, they look hideous and can't see any that look comfortable, they're just clumpy.

Dh has stopped buying Eccos for the same reason.

DesertIslandHereICome · 05/09/2023 16:16

There are sites that sell them cheaper, l saw a pair for £90.00 in a store, looked them up online, half the price.

Are they genuine sites as there are lots of so called Clarks Outlets that are scam sites?

cardibach · 29/11/2023 21:49

Buy Dr. Martens. Similar price, more hard wearing, not ugly.
You’re welcome.

WandaWonder · 29/11/2023 22:03

People pay more for heels atleast these look more comfortable
