Green dress for funeral

Puffwiththegreeneyes · 02/09/2023 21:02

I have a funeral next week. Dress code is "green" (deceaseds favourite colour). Advised of comfort over formality, again as per deceaseds wishes.

I'm a size 14, pear shaped. No real budget depending on the dress. I'm blonde, 5ft 7 and mid 30s.

Suggestions please!

Green scarf with your clothes of choice.

Green scarf with your clothes of choice.

Agree with this.

If you are going to buy a dress, I’d think about what gap it would best fill in your wardrobe. Would you want to start wearing it again in autumn or are you someone, who keeps clothes and would wear it next year? I like the Karen Millen but that’s a next year as the weather will turn. The New look dress will be for now.

There are so many green dresses around. I’ve just looked at Next for the mo. I really like this dress. It’s really versatile but am aware it’s more to store for next year.

The most casual I’d go is:

There are more green shirt dresses around if you like this style and most would suit your body shape. Eg

If you want a work dress.

or

Maybe this depending on the office or this could be nice to go out in

I think most things go bar ball gowns and skimpy clothing. You’ll want to avoid off the shoulder unless wearing a jacket that you don’t remove, but as the weather is heating up, that is probably not an option and this is about as much skin as I’d have showing… but I’m quite a few years older than you.

Agree with this.

I'd go with this, too.

Although that M&S dress is lovely.

Sugarfree23 · 03/09/2023 07:59

If green isn't your colour, I'd go black with green scarf or cardi or even a black skirt / trousers with green top.

JinglingSpringbells · 03/09/2023 08:07

I think it's quite a bit ask to dictate what to wear TBH. Most people usually say 'no black' or 'wear colourful'. or they don't stipulate at all.
Not everyone suits some colours.
I think 'something green' might work like accessories, or as others have said, a nice scarf or even just some cheap jewellery.

Bargain Ghost dress that is versatile enough to wear again.

I wouldn't buy a new dress for a funeral. You'll never want to wear it again. A hint of green (scarf, hair accessory, top) would be sufficient.

Rocknrollstar · 03/09/2023 09:48

I really wouldn’t buy a dress. These guidelines are rarely followed. We went to one which asked people to wear yellow and red. The deceased husband’s wore a red coat and one mourner wore a yellow anorak. I bought a cheap scarf to wear over a black coat. No one else wore colour. Similarly, I was once the only person to turn up wearing bright colours when we had been asked to do so. My advice is like Mede - buy a green scarf and maybe a cheap bag from Primark unless you would normally wear green and wan’t to buy a dress? How about a green artificial flower pinned to your coat?

I love this @ginmonkeyagain
It is see-through at all or fairly thick?

@Nowanextraone not at all see through. It is lovely material. It is beautifully cool and elegant.

It does have a bit of a low back with ties.

I treated myself to it thinking if we had a summer like last year it would get loads of weae (ha!) I have worn it once so far - on holiday in France.

DontStopMeNow1 · 03/09/2023 11:43

I'm going to one next week too (Jo), but the deceased's family have requested we wear something with green in it, as it was her favourite colour.

I've just bought a scarf, as recommended by a few posters.

Yes this. I find dress codes for any event an imposition and I wouldn't buy anything new. Accessorising sounds a good compromise.

I've actually recently lost 3 stone, so my entire wardrobe is a massive gap 😆

I'm still losing weight (I've switched a medication which caused me to gain, so going back to "normal"). I'm currently existing in very baggy sweatpants and the odd summer dress. But the weightloss is slowing and I'm unlikely to go below a size 12 due to my hips anyway.

So basically I'm open to pretty much anything!

Some great selections so far, thanks.

I'll happily wear it again, I'm not sentimental in that way.

I’ve been to one like this although the colour was purple. I just borrowed a purple silk flower thing off someone and pinned it to a navy dress I had. Most people did similar.

I do this,I've been to few funerals where colour was requested. It's going to be hot too so make sure you take that into consideration.

Puffwiththegreeneyes · 03/09/2023 15:16

I've bought a few to try. It's a good excuse to buy a new dress to be honest.
