What's the most embarrassing thing you've ever included in your DC's lunch bag?

A few years ago, all stressed about finding something allergen-free for DD to take to school on her birthday, I went to the school's office to discuss the options with the staff just before pickup. At the time I was very sleep-deprived because of 2nd DC who didn't sleep well at night. When I went a few minutes later to pick her up, the teacher asked to talk to me for a second. While being all fussy about allergens, etc. with the staff because I honestly was worried about DDs classmates (DD doesn't have allergies), I had included in her lunch bag walnuts as a snack!!!

Not DC but me. I had batch cooked a ton of butternut soup from my home grown butternuts. I felt so good, boxing them up to freeze and grab in the mornings - they’d defrost by lunch time at work. I worked somewhere really remote and worked through my lunch break to avoid having to leave at rush hour.

Frozen cooked rhubarb. I had got frozen cooked rhubarb out of the freezer that morning.

Now I label my batch cooking.

@BlindyPeakers 😂Who put it in there? Did no-one at school notice? I hope your DC had at least their lunch too in the bag.

A friend of mine was once told off by her DC’s class teacher for sending in yogurts that were a week out of date. Fair enough you might think (if a bit micromanaging) - except that my friend is partially sighted, registered blind, and it was her (now ex)H doing the lunchboxes!

We had a TA once who was obsessed with a child who always had out of date tube yoghurts.

I said if it was fine I'd imagine the parent froze them. This is because I did the same and they kept lunch cold and you could bulk buy on offer.

But she had a bee in her bonnet about it. So much so I contacted ds school to check they didn't think I was sending him in out of date yoghurts! His teacher laughed because she also did the same!

I vaguely remember this being a "thing" at the time but DS is 19 now so Infant school years are a distant memory!

@BeakerCupSaucerEggs The question is, did you eat it though?

Not me, but my mother - a whole cold roast pigeon! Nothing else, just that.

junebirthdaygirl · 01/09/2023 19:59

One of my teaching colleagues had a child whose mum mixed up the lunch boxes. Her dc had dad's lunch box containing a note with lots of promises for later on. I presume Dad had the ham sandwich and yogurt! My friend never said a word and nothing was ever mentioned.

I don't recall anything too bad, but it upset me when we found the last few slices of bread mouldy, so I told my youngest to have a hot dinner that day.

He just didn't tell anyone, and didn't eat anything! I don't know how they didn't notice, as they had fed him once when I was collecting him before lunch time.

He's not a big eater so it wasn't the end of the world, but I felt awful for him.

Yes @Ena23. My mother was sent to school with a whole roast pigeon by my grandmother. She didn't realise until she sat down to eat at lunchtime.

I put it in there by accident. I'm not sure if anyone at school noticed, but no one said anything!

Not the kids, but me. Sat down in the staff room at work, opened my lunch box and found a plastic poo sitting on top of my sandwiches. Thanks DH…

Not a lunch bag but I accidentally sent my almost two year old at the time to nursery with a front pocket on his bag full of half a dozen baileys miniatures after Christmas.

i’d just had his brother & the last place the bag went before nursery was a Santa train which included the minis for adults. Didn’t think to check the pocket on his first day back. Oops!

😂😂😂

Not in the lunch box but my grandma bought a plain lunch box and stuck the faces of a boy band I used to like on them and I had to take it to school .. I got laughed at a lot Blush

I used to take a piece of foil to Gregg's and wrap DS's sausage roll in it instead of the Gregg's bag. It was a once a week treat , but I didn't want the posh parents at the leafy primary school knowing.

Oh this is genius!

I remember my mum rushing to the shop in the morning before school to get my lunch and just gave me the bag of stuff. She forgot to take her pack of fags and lighter out.

cocksstrideintheevening · 05/09/2023 11:26

A peanut butter sandwich for a school trip. Dts first trip in reception, they had school meals then so I didn't even thought about it. Got handed back soggy hot sandwiches at pick up.
