What is in your first aid kit when going abroad?

Ima90sbaby · 31/08/2023 11:48

Going on holiday abroad in a few weeks and need to get a first aid kit together, will be starting the kit from scratch...
We are going with DS2 and husbands neice and nephew who are 5 & 6 (although I'm assuming MIL will take things for them).
What do you have in your first aid kit?

TIA x

Imodium
Savlon
Tweezers
Bite/sting cream
Drawing paste
Blister pads
Calpol sachets
Dioralyte
Paracetamol
Ibuprofen
Plater roll and scissors.

PipinwasAuntieMabelsdog · 31/08/2023 12:32

Oh and antihistamines

tinkerbellvspredator · 31/08/2023 12:32

Lots of times nothing much. But now try to remember paracetamol, calpol and antisan as they usually come in handy.

Fraaahnces · 31/08/2023 12:34

I forgot to mention alchohol wipes and any regular medicine

Peony654 · 31/08/2023 12:34

Painkillers, plasters, mosquito repellent if necessary. Never thought to take anything else - I’ve always been in or near a town or city so could buy whatever there.

PollyCreo · 31/08/2023 12:36

Definitely better to take all the aforementioned things with you, foreign pharmacies in tourist areas can be very expensive especially for basic items like paracetamol and ibuprofen.

InTheFutilityRoomEatingBiscuits · 31/08/2023 12:36

I’ve never taken a first aid kit on holiday. I usually have some paracetamol in bag somewhere.

For a hiking trail type trip where I’m two days from the nearest shop I take plasters.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 31/08/2023 12:46

Imodium
Plasters
Antihistamines
Paracetamol
Ibuprofen
Germalene
Sudacrem
Dissolvable rehydration tablets

Ima90sbaby · 31/08/2023 12:48

Haven't read all of the replies, but just wanted to say that we're going to Spain, Majorca, should have said in OP.

You can get really cheap mini first aid kits on Amazon etc. that'll have most stuff in it aside from medicine

BaaCode · 31/08/2023 13:15

Paracetamol
Antihistamines
Small strip of plasters
Imodium
Small nail scissors.
Indigestion tablets.
My medications.

DelurkingAJ · 31/08/2023 13:17

Paracetamol and Calpol (no wish to go out to find it in an unknown town in the middle of the night)
Antihistamine tablets
Children’s Bongela
Plasters
Antiseptic cream

These responses are genuinely a parallel world for me. Most people seem to take something. I genuinely had no idea anyone did that. Not to a first world country. I don't think I've ever met anyone who does either (not that I go through friends luggage when we go anywhere).

SM4713 · 31/08/2023 13:24

There was a very recent thread asking the same, so if I can find it- I'll post it.

For Spain, I'd likely just take basics, some plasters, paracetamol/ibuprofen, buzz spray, itchy cream, dioralyte etc.

If more remote/less touristy I take more. I do, however, always check whether the drugs I'm taking are allowed in the country. I think the Middle East, Egypt and parts of Asia are very strict on say codeine, even the lower level ones we can buy OTT in the UK can cause strict fines or even prison!

I always take amble supply of tampons because they were difficult to find in Egypt and Thailand/Singapore too.

TokyoSushi · 31/08/2023 13:25

Paracetamol
Calpol
Imodium
Kwells - travel sickness tablets
Plasters

Usually cover most eventualities for us!

dandeliontea78 · 31/08/2023 13:26

It's a joke that I'm the walking pharmacy on holiday, so here is my list:

Kids:
Calpol (because the stuff you get abroad tastes vile!)
Plasters
Sudocrem
Antihistamine
Rehydration sachets
Avalon

Adults:
Plasters
Rennies
Paracetamol
Antihistamine
Diarrhoea tablets
Rehydration sachets
Cystitis sachet

Justyouwaitandseeagain · 31/08/2023 13:38

paracetamol, ibuprofen, antihistamines (plus child equivalents), travel sickness tablets, bite cream, bug spray, sun cream, plasters, tweezers, nail scissors.

SeaToSki · 31/08/2023 13:40

Any prescribed medicines with an extra week’s supply
Any regularly taken otc medicines (like antihistamines) with an extra week’s supply
Stuff for insect bites
Stuff for blisters
Painkillers of choice and appropriate to ages
Imodium, tums and a rehydration sachet or two (but electrolyte balance is critical for me)
If its the winter I might add some lemsip type stuff
A mini thermometer

This means I can treat basic stuff without having to turn out at 10pm (which is usually when stuff starts kicking off imho) and the thermometer allows me to tell if I need to find a doctor

xyz111 · 31/08/2023 13:43

Only things I take with me are cold and flu tablets (had a bad reaction to American ones before. Must be something weird in them!) and Imodium 😬 anything else I know I can just buy from the hotel/ local shop

EBearhug · 31/08/2023 13:43

Depends where I'm going. I've had trips where I've had my own sterile needles, antibiotics, steritabs for water and so on.

Painkillers, plasters, blister plasters, antiseptic wipes, antihistamines.

Tampons are a good idea, as is insect repellent. Sanitary pads can be used as an emergency wound dressing. Obviously any regular meds and anything like malarial prophylaxis that's advised for the area you're going to.

If you're taking a pack with bandages, etc, then it helps to know how to use them, should the need arise.

Silkiebunny · 31/08/2023 13:59

Just take immodium. I do take hand gel as well. And deet if high insect area. High factor sun tan lotion. Anti bac wipes.

caringcarer · 31/08/2023 14:02

Imodium
Paracetamol
Insect repellent
Hay fever tablets
Plasters
Compreed
Lint
Antiseptic spray
Antiseptic cream
Tweezers
A few bandages
Scissors
Lint
Dioralite sachets x 4
Eye wash sachets (sterile water)
Sun cream
Water wipes

I keep a first aid kit in my car at all times so I just replenish before we go.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 31/08/2023 14:18

Immodium, antihistamines and Gaviscon. Maybe some of my special sensitive plasters as well as I'm allergic to most others. I can buy anything else.

SingingSands · 31/08/2023 14:29

I went to Mallorca in June, and only took paracetamol.

I don't even have a first aid kit at home - I know, I should have!

DS did slice his finger on holiday and we walked down to the chemist and bought some wound closing strips. He didn't even want any of my paracetamol.
