What day do you get your supermarket food delivery?

My most hated task is feeding everyone. Hate it with a passion. Never seem to have the right amount of food, forget things needed for recipes, spend so much money. Not sure I want to go down the gousto/hello fresh route, but am determined to get my act together.

I just want to know if anyone with a family, has figured out a certain day of the week which works best for getting the food delivered?? Do you meal prep or batch things on a certain day?

Once a week just doesn’t work for us. Some things go off or run out but wouldn’t last a week if we bought them.

one delivery and a top up or two, plus milkman delivery is what works for us.

SoundsLikeAYouProblem · 30/08/2023 19:51

I’m off mid week so my delivery is today. It means we have enough food in for the weekend and are only running low Monday/Tuesday.
I tend to either batch cook maybe one meal today and then batch cook on the weekend so Monday & Tuesday are freezer food days.

BaaCode · 30/08/2023 19:52

Although I don't meal plan or buy from gousto etc, I have my groceries delivered from a supermarket.
Usually on a Thursday so I have lots of goodies for the coming weekend.

Clevs · 30/08/2023 19:53

We do t have it in a set day. We just place an order when we're getting low on a few things.

Colourfulponderings · 30/08/2023 19:56

Until last week I always did Monday night order for Tuesday delivery because I was on the tue-thu delivery plan with Tesco. I would always have to buy a few bits at the weekend.

Now Tesco have changed it to any evening instead I’ll start getting a delivery every 5 days I reckon as that’s when I start to run out of essentials. In which case the day will start to change.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 30/08/2023 19:56

Saturday morning usually.

My kids have food aversions, so I tend to buy all the same stuff each week and know what amounts I need.

Shocked its gone from an £80 a week shop to £120 a week though, buying the same stuff.

nutmegnook · 30/08/2023 19:57

Sunday, tue and a Thursday 3 small
Shops

Rainsdropskeepfalling · 30/08/2023 19:58

Fortnightly on a Friday - supermarket pizza for Friday night supper. We get milk delivered and were within walking distance of a baker so don't need to go shopping otherwise.

Colourfulponderings · 30/08/2023 19:58

I meal plan each week but don’t batch cook.

I can’t imagine how anyone doesn’t meal plan, it blows my mind. Do people just buy random stuff on the off chance it’s useful? Doesn’t loads get wasted?

We have three (sometimes just two though!) we are same

I aim for Monday mornings as I get almost no substitutions or unavailable items. Also it's when the house is quiet and I can get it all away with the minimum of fuss.

bluechameleon · 30/08/2023 20:01

Sunday morning 9-10. One of us takes DC to their swimming lessons, the other stays home for the delivery. Stock levels seem to be good at that time.

AppleKatie · 30/08/2023 20:03

One on a Thursday night in term time. Two, generally weekend and Wednesday in the holidays when we are home more. I love the delivery pass and actually prefer getting two 49-50 shops in rather than one 100 one a week.

Who do you online shop with? I might try 2 shops a week, or like previous poster said, every 5 days. I've been conditioned to do one shop a week but maybe this will work better.

I've done this exact set up before, and do remember it working quite well.

DD and DH seem to take it in turns to go away/eat at friends'/invite friends over at short notice so I've abandoned trying to meal plan!

I think I get a delivery about every 5 days or so; I caved and now have an Ocado smartpass. If I know I am cooking a special meal I will try to get a delivery the day before (though I rarely get subs or missing items these days).

Pre-lockdown, when we had a more predictable week, we would order midweek (switching between Waitrose/Ocado/Morrisons).

Doyouthinktheyknow · 30/08/2023 20:13

Every Friday, used to be evening but as DH is retired now it’s morning.

We do small top up shops during the week as well.

lacint · 30/08/2023 20:13

Friday evenings, 6-7pm, so we have fresh sandwich ingredients for the weekend (we do day trips and take a packed lunch for everyone). I don't batch cook currently, but I'd prefer to - life is too busy with my 1yo to do it now. I do prep fresh veg for the week so we can just steam it for dinner.

One delivery a week is fine for us, no top ups. We get filtered milk which lasts the week, and store bread in the fridge.

Hippyhippybake · 30/08/2023 20:15

Two deliveries a week : Mondays and Fridays and almost never set foot in an actual supermarket.

Rigorously meal plan and have virtually zero food waste. Always allow for things to pop up so assume a couple of meals a week will be from the freezer if this doesn’t happen.

ThinkingAgainAndAgain · 30/08/2023 20:17

Saturday morning 9-10am works well for us. The DC are around risers, so no chance of a lie in any day, but this allows for a lazier start to the day. DH and DC1 are out until 10:15 ish, so I have everything unpacked and put away in time to make pancakes for breakfast. Works well for us, and gives me Friday evening until 10pm to finalise what we’re going to be eating.

BeyondMyWits · 30/08/2023 20:17

We do twice a week, I like fresh food.

LivLongAndProsper · 30/08/2023 20:19

I've a delivery plan and pay 7 a month for as many deliveries over 50 as I like. Some weeks I get 2 deliveries, some one. I can also get click and collect for free with the plan but don't use it much. I'm.so happy with the plan I can even imagine going to do a shop in a supermarket anymore. The main annoyance for me is the minimum 50 spend. It used to be 40 and that was better.

Deciding what to make for dinner is one of the most irritating parent jobs!

IamChipmunk · 30/08/2023 20:21

Tesco delivery Mon night and a physical Aldi shop on Thurs night. We used to do one a week but then didn't always have fresh fruit in or stuff was going off or being wasted as the dates were not long enough.

LivLongAndProsper · 30/08/2023 20:21

Didn't really answer your question...the answer is as soon as I've 50quid worth of stuff on my list!

CirreltheSquirrel · 30/08/2023 20:22

Sunday evening to stock up for the week. We eat out more at the weekend so it doesn:t matter if we're running low on fresh stuff by then.
