Water bottle for reception that doesn't have a faffy way to close it?

DS is hopeless with properly closing bottles before putting them in his bag, he always forgets despite me constantly demonstrating and reminding him.

iON8 and Tinc bottles don't work for him because there's 2 steps to the close and seal process. He snaps the lid closed but forgets to close the little U-shape hooky thing and it leaks all over his bag.

I'm looking for something that only takes one step to seal.

Sistema Twist is a write off because unless you twist it really tight it just leaks. I'm eyeing up the Camelback Eddy, has anyone tried it? Any other ideas?

Ds has Nike water bottles from sports direct and they don't need to be closed at all

Belltentdreamer · 30/08/2023 18:42

These Klean Kanteen ones with the kids sippy lids are leak proof and don’t need “closing” the plastic cap you can see in the pic you can just remove and no need to use.
KK also do a kids sports cap but that is more prone to leaks

Sistema. We’ve been through so many bloody bottles that it almost seems there’s no point in not using single use plastic, but the Sistemas have lasted the longest, simple and don’t leak if closed properly (and closing it is easy).

Crabbity · 30/08/2023 18:46

Yes I was going to suggest Kleen Kanteen too. They don’t get that horrible tainted plastic taste either that the Sistema ones do, and are properly fully washable. We’ve got two which have lasted years.

tealandteal · 30/08/2023 18:49

We had the smaller one of this in Reception for smaller hands and then the larger size for year one. My one year old can open and close them and both are still going strong 2years later.

One green bottle, flip up straw. Metal bottle. Dc have had theirs 6 years!!

Ladybirdlashes · 30/08/2023 18:50

Try Smash, we’ve tried loads of different ones too and I also find Smash ones the easiest to clean, I think sainsburys/Argos have them for 25% off at the moment too.

I've got a camelback bottle the has a flip up silicone spout that doesn't leak, but you have to gently bite it to get the water out. Might made kiddy sizes

AuntieDolly · 30/08/2023 18:52

Camelbak

TragicMuse · 30/08/2023 19:00

Contigo bottles every time. They are absolutely watertight. And have a simple closure mechanism.

Icannotthinkofaname · 30/08/2023 19:10

Please don't get the sho one or any other bottle that unscrews.
Sports caps all the way.
For all of Primary School.
So speaks a teacher. I can't dry the carpet and you don't want your children sitting in a puddle.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 30/08/2023 19:12

Camelbak Eddy bottle.

Lasted 4 years

fartfacenotfatface · 30/08/2023 19:19

Contigo autoseal Swish. The have to press the button to drink. When they let go of the button, it seals itself. Absolutely no leak issues:

dumpling123 · 30/08/2023 19:21

Camelbak eddy kids bottle. They're on Amazon and you can replace the bite valve when they get worn

Alphabeta123 · 30/08/2023 19:24

Avoid Kleen Kanteen - they leak even when properly closed (we got sucked in the hype and have 3 here, with 5 lids. they all leak badly)
Contigo of camelbak are good

SquigglePigs · 30/08/2023 19:25

We've gone for these. DD gets on great with it. I've got a big one for myself too. There's a screw cap if you want it or sports style. We always use the sports style one.

Stanley all the way, they’ve been making flasks and cups etc for 90 years. If you buy a Stanley water bottle, it will probably survive beyond your child’s university education. We’ve had a Stanley flask in the family for more than four decades and, notwithstanding the fact that it’s slightly battered, it’s still in regular use. There are some good offers on Amazon currently for a new range of super-lightweight Stanley water bottles.

Also, don’t buy any water bottle with a screw lid as many reception children don’t have the manual dexterity to align the threading: cue wet bags, reading books and wet carpets, as a previous teacher poster has indicated. You need a water bottle with an integral mouthpiece and a simple folding mechanism.

DorothyWhippleFan · 30/08/2023 19:47

Also, definitely don’t buy Smiggle!

Mariotoaddaisy · 30/08/2023 19:48

Camelbak eddy.

Buy several

InterFactual · 30/08/2023 20:15

Thanks everyone, some great ideas here. I'm going to buy a Camelbak to start with and see if he gets on with it. Failing that I'll probably try Contigo swish or a sports top on a metal flask.

One Green Bottle Company. They last forever and you just flip the lid down.

MULLd · 30/08/2023 20:20

Ah can anyone help. The ones with the straw.. my DD always tips it up so she can't drink out if it with the straw. Any bottles without the straw ??

Confetto · 30/08/2023 20:23

Will your child actually have a bag in Reception? Mine just uses a book bag and carries the water bottle. Bottles with the lift up straws from Asda etc have been fine.

Seconding the comment from a primary teacher upthread about SHO bottles and similar. When children started bringing water bottles to school, it seemed universal to have some sort of sports cap opening. Suddenly they have wide open necks and it's awful when they spill in the classroom!
