Best travel/insulated mug

Back to school soon as a TA and on the look out for a new mug. Needs to have a lid obviously and keep my tea warm for a couple of hours ideally. Any recommendations? Currently have a chilli but not overly impressed with it, drips a lot and is a nightmare to take apart and clean!

Sho flexi.

@Legoroses what brand is yours? (Ceramic lined)

Sparkesy · 25/08/2023 23:46

Contigo, but the metal ones are much better - the plastic and rubber ones don't hold the heat in as long. The stainless steel are the best as the colourful coating doesn't peel off after a few months.
I've had a super tall one bought in the states about 14 years ago and it is still going strong

Also get the one where you press the button in and the drinking hole opens up, not the flip up clip. They fail after a while.

Another vote for Contigo metal - keeps my tea warm for hours!

I recently got a Solecup and love it. They’re a UK company too. Come in nice colours which is v important lol

FussyPud · 26/08/2023 00:14

Contigo here, or the stainless steel ones I have from Costa and Starbucks have been similarly efficient. Just make sure they’re the proper seal lids, not the dipping lids that aren’t watertight.

User764 · 26/08/2023 01:09

I have a Topl. It's great. Feels like drinking from a normal cup but without the risk of big spills.

User764 · 26/08/2023 01:10

and the lid goes in the dishwasher! The cup doesn't, but I think that's the case for other insulated things.

Toddlerteaplease · 26/08/2023 05:30

Contigo. But they do leaks

ChessieFL · 26/08/2023 06:40

Another vote for Contigo - I’ve got the Westloop which is the third one that YewandOak linked above. It’s never leaked in several years of just chucking it in a bag and keeps stuff hot for hours.

ehb102 · 26/08/2023 07:51

I have a Camelbak travel mug. It keeps tea hot for three hours. Sometimes too hot. I leave the lid off a bit to get it to drinkable temperature and then let it stay there otherwise it takes three hours to sip a very hot tea.

Zojirushi are amazing. I have a couple of contigo autoseals that have been sitting in a cupboard unused since I got my zojirushi. It's slim and light, non stick inner, never leaks, easy to drink from and keeps a drink hot all day. It's honestly my favourite possession 😍

VeeandBee · 26/08/2023 08:42

I've been disappointed my Contigo has not lasted. It's certainly leak proof which is great but I've had it about a year and it no longer keeps the drink warm for more than a couple of hours. The outside of it now gets quite warm.
For the money paid I was expecting it to last a few years

2reefsin30knots · 26/08/2023 08:43

For school use the key things are:

Operational with one hand (having to unscrew and hold the lid is a no).
Will not release fluid even if a child knocks it off your desk and it lands upside down.
Has a lock system as a line of defense against curious children.
Cool all over on the outside.
Keeps drink hot for several hours.

I always have a Contigo Westloop. They tick all the boxes above and are bombproof.

sashh · 26/08/2023 08:44

Contigo.

I think you could probably throw it down the stairs and it wouldn't spill.

You can definitely do this! I've also dropped them onto hard playgrounds etc and they neither leak nor break.

Jellycatspyjamas · 26/08/2023 08:52

That’s odd @VeeandBee I’ve had mine for 5 years and it looks like new and still keeps my drink perfectly hot - I wonder is there’s a seal that has broken somewhere.

Jellycatspyjamas · 26/08/2023 08:55

@VeeandBee Contigo have a 2 year warranty, if you look on their website you can submit a claim and have it repaired or replaced.

VeeandBee · 26/08/2023 08:58

Thank you @Jellycatspyjamas I'll take a look at that.
I bought it as I always see it recommended on here and expected it to last several years,
I think you're right it's probably a seal that's gone.

windysocks · 26/08/2023 09:00

Contigo never spills and keeps coffee hot for hours

Jellycatspyjamas · 26/08/2023 09:03

@VeeandBee you’re welcome, I hope they sort it for you.

OctogenarianDecathlete · 26/08/2023 09:08

Camelbak Forge Flow, without a doubt. And you can get massive ones!

bogoblin · 26/08/2023 11:45

The only time my Contigo Westloop ever leaked was when I somehow sat on the button! I used to make my tea in it before I started work so around half 6 and it would still be hot by the time I finally got chance to drink it several hours later!

These all have stainless steel insides though right? So coffee tastes like sucking a coin?

I've got a ceramic-inside-lined cup but it doesn't stay as hot as a Swell does and I don't love the plastic drinking mechanism. But it does taste much much better. Bru I think it's called.

I never had a metalic taste in my cup. The actual top you drink from is plastic. It's not different to my old and trusted thermos flask I had before moving to a cup.
