Can gp give anything for a massive verruca

Ds has had this verruca about 3 months or so now. It's just getting bigger and bigger, I've never seen one so big ! It's about a centimetre wide but it's also almost like a ball on the side of his foot !
It's hurting him now when he walks. We've used bazuka, those plasters with sacylic acid on, duct tape and most recently a verruca and wart freeze treatment. Well that did fuck all apart from aggravate it it seems because since then it's got even bigger.
I can't file it off as ds is autistic and can't hack the sensory part of that. Will a gp prescribe something super super strong does anyone know ?

Magnesium gel was the miracle cure for some stubborn varrucas (mine) and warts (DD) that we'd tried everything else on. The warts had been there for years, only applied it twice, two weeks apart and they just went!

bobuka · 21/08/2023 11:58

Just received this.

Going to persevere with duct tape.

Makes me wonder though what does it need to be for a referral then ?

Try to find a wart remover with formic acid.

This will sound weird, but can you try cutting away the white (dead) skin? My DS also has ASD and wouldn't let me file, but he was happy for me to cut away the edges once he realised it didn't hurt. Then patience, as it probably takes longer to get rid than filing.

I had a massive verruca on my big toe for years. Because I'm diabetic, I go to a chiropodist every eight weeks. She tried everything but nothing worked. Finally she suggested banana skin wrapped round it. She had read about it. I was dubious but tried it and it actually worked!

YearoftheRabbit23 · 21/08/2023 13:38

@LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand how does that work practically though, if I want to try it. Do you wrap/tie the skin on all day, or tape a bit of banana skin just over the wart? Replace daily?

Fraaahnces · 21/08/2023 13:43

Snip a bit of banana peel big enough to cover the verruca and then duct tape to keep it on. I’d change it every couple of days and clean and check it.

Whatadayyyy · 21/08/2023 13:43

I had a really bad one once. I had to alternate freezing it and using a pumice stone almost daily until it was gone. There are wee roots that look like little black dots, you need to keep going until you get rid of the black bit. Persevere and you will get there, it might just take a while

NotaCFDclue · 21/08/2023 13:49

Thank NHS guidance is not to treat unless painful. I went in with DD for one, and Nurse Practitioner started on the no treatment recommendation, but as soon as I said guidance says “unless painful” and it was affecting how she walked, she immediately prescribed something that worked. Wish I had kept it as have one myself now !

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 21/08/2023 14:01

I only used the banana skin at night, not during the day. However, putting tape over it during the day would probably work.

Fraaahnces · 21/08/2023 14:02

Actually thinking that given DS has autism, perhaps an antiviral medication wouldn’t be an unrealistic ask.

RudsyFarmer · 21/08/2023 14:05

Bazuka worked for us but you have to keep at it until the core comes out with the last layer of skin. Just follow the instructions and peel the skin off, peel the skin off, peel the skin off, peel the skin off until finally you win the trophy and the stubborn bastard comes out. It’s glorious 🤣

WhenDoISleep · 21/08/2023 14:10

Apple cider vinegar is another home remedy to treat verrucas. I’ve used it successfully on myself and on one of my DC as well.

Oneweektogo2023 · 21/08/2023 14:15

Are you shaving or filing off the outer bit before adding treatment?

GoldenKiwi · 21/08/2023 14:16

FloweryName · 21/08/2023 09:50

Cover it in duck tape and change the tape every couple of days, filing it down each time. I had a mammoth one that wasn’t going despite trying all the expensive treatments more than once then someone recommended duck tape on her and it was truly amazing.

This also worked for my DD, she had two massive ones!

Cornishbelle · 21/08/2023 14:18

Anything that completely blocks the light/air to it seems to work, I used black nail varnish left on for a week and the entire thing just fell off

jazzandh · 21/08/2023 14:21

many years ago I had 20 verrucas on one foot. It was hideous. At the time the GP prescribed formaldehyde and I soaked the foot each night and then scraped them. To be honest they pretty much fell off by themselves! It took a couple of weeks of nightly soaking for about 10 minutes (may have been less time I can't quite recall).

It may not be allowed now - but may be worth checking it out as a possibility you can do yourself.

I used this on a three year long verucca, DC was 12 and has ASD.
DC said it didn't hurt, cost £20 but turned out totally worth it. Verucca was bigger than a 5p and like a small marble.
Highly recommended.

Another one here to recommend wartner, also ASD son ! Only thing that's ever worked and trust me we tried most !

Pluffe · 21/08/2023 14:43

Dd is just over a similar one after 3 months. We stuck with the salicylic acid (salactol). Didn’t look like it was going anywhere but one day it disappeared. Going to try nail varnish next time.

MasterCherry · 21/08/2023 15:49

If he can't tolerate filing, is there any chance you could manage a beach trip? A day scratching around barefoot in coarse sand and sea water cured my dd's verruca last year!

Odingodof · 21/08/2023 16:21

Op I would ask if that was the doctors raspberry or again the reception.

I'd be tempted to push once more and say its causing him pain, it's huge, you've tried lots and he has asd.

Make sure it's a doctor that turns you down.

Thank you. I think I will you know because with the asd it does complicate things !

huggiess · 21/08/2023 16:46

Name change fail, again ! Always doing that 😆

Curryageous · 21/08/2023 16:50

I second the duck tape suggestion. Put the bazooka/acid on then cover in tape so no air can get to it. Then file.

🤞 you get it sorted.

I had this. I had about 30 and it worked a treat. I d never known anyone else have the same treatment!

They don't do it now as it's carcinogenic apparently.
