I heard the town name Kelso in the radio today and in the context thought they were meaning a person, which got me thinking.

Some of these may already be used, but I thought it might be a fun list. Some of the Scottish ones I’ve suggested are used, albeit rarely

Kendall
Lomond
Kelso
Ailsa
Amberley
Devon
Irvine
Nairn
Kingston
Avon
Barnard
Annan
Seaton
Arran (actually, many Scottish islands are first names too - Iona, Islay, Lewis etc)

Milton Keynes (obvs if your surname is Keynes)
Charlton (been done, I know)
Swanage

LimeCheesecake · 21/08/2023 17:18

Milton Keynes is a cheat though as the town is named after people, not the other way round!

There are two villages near Milton Keynes called Clifton Reynes and Newton Blossomville. They always make me think of a couple of Victorian theatre actor/managers.

I am reading a book where the main character is called Fleetwood. I can’t take it even though the book is set in the 17th Century. It sounds odd!

It is called The Familiars? If so, I'm reading the same one. The dog is called Puck.

AutumnIsMyFriend · 21/08/2023 22:19

Places I drive past frequently:
Snailwell
Stow cum Quy
Bottisham
Spooner Row
I hope we start naming kids these.

ElthamLemur · 21/08/2023 22:29

DS is a big fan of a YouTube family called Ninja kids and the eldest is called Bryton. I assumed the spelling was Brighton until very recently.

Another one is Ashton, which is already quite a well known name, but also a UK place if you add Under Lyme.

ElthamLemur · 21/08/2023 22:30

Actually what about my username?! Eltham

Totesbabes · 21/08/2023 22:32

I know a boy called Essex

Grantham
Collingham
Weston (super mare)
Cannock
Matlock
Sherwood
