I heard the town name Kelso in the radio today and in the context thought they were meaning a person, which got me thinking.

Some of these may already be used, but I thought it might be a fun list. Some of the Scottish ones I’ve suggested are used, albeit rarely

Kendall
Lomond
Kelso
Ailsa
Amberley
Devon
Irvine
Nairn
Kingston
Avon
Barnard
Annan
Seaton
Arran (actually, many Scottish islands are first names too - Iona, Islay, Lewis etc)

I live Essex, I am amazed no one seems to have done this yet!

There's a comedian called Boothy Graffoe.
It's a village in Lincolnshire

Kirkby Malzeard, if you wanted your child to grow up to be a villain.
Or the nearby Kirk Hammerton if you wanted a hero.
Studley Roger is midway between the two, a good friend to both, and rather easily led.

Studley Roger is one of my favourite names for a Boys Own-style hero.
To which I would add Norton Canes and my all-time fave, Hemingford Grey 😂

dressedforcomfort · 21/08/2023 14:57

Whitby would be awesome for a boy...

MaggieFS · 21/08/2023 15:02

Morven would be my choice.

Langton Matravers goves you first name and surname in one!

Babdoc · 21/08/2023 15:04

There’s a signpost on the A1 somewhere in Northumberland or the Borders, with two villages called Stenton and Garvald on it. DH and I used to joke that if our first were a boy, we would call him Stenton Garvald!
Fortunately, we had two girls…

If you mean the one near Pitsea, I know it well. The Tesco in Pitsea is famous in my family for being the source of my Brother's oldest shirt! Over 21 years old and still going strong!!

I went to school with a Morven!

If ever I write novels I’m going to pick character names from random places on a map.

Isn't one of the characters in Bridget Jones' Diary called Penny Husbands-Bosworth - Husbands Bosworth being a village in Northamptonshire or Leicestershire or somewhere round there?

My husband grew up near a village called Clara Vale, who is obviously a Victorian heiress.

MaggieFS · 21/08/2023 15:40

Character names picked from a map... it certainly worked for the Wombles!

CallieJones · 21/08/2023 15:45

I used to travel through Penge and Anerley on the train. I thought Anerley would make a nice name, but Penge definitely wouldn't.

BobbidyBibbidyBob · 21/08/2023 15:53

Zennor (Cornwall)
