DH - Petty annoyances

I'm not a journalist - lazy or otherwise so piss off Daily Mail.

Following on from another thread re petty things that get you riled up . . . Every time I make a cheese sauce I have to grate a third more than required in anticipation that DH will do many a 'drive by' and swipe loads.

Hardly a major issue - even though strong cheddar we buy has security tags!

Mine cannot ever open or close a blind or curtain. Whatever state they are in when I last touch them are the state they remain in. Really annoys me. If i drop dead at night he will live in twilight forever.

Mine leaves his dishes on the work surface ABOVE the dishwasher, knowing that I will later put them in the dishwasher. I find it baffling. He never wipes down surfaces even if he has liberally sprinkled whatever he’s made with salt/spices. (I can’t whinge, he makes most meals and he’s a bloody good but messy cook).

Oh, absolutely this. Drives me round the bend. It's worse when the dishwasher door is OPEN, he can see it's empty, but no - dishes on the counter.

Sometimes when I'm working in the office and he's at home I have this absurd notion that I'll come home and the dishwasher will have been emptied and refilled with dirty dishes, and that the kitchen will be how I left it that morning.

Absolutely bloody not. Despite the fact he will have had plenty of time to make food, he somehow does not have the time to tidy up.

My parents keep their toaster in a drawer

Lagershandy · 21/08/2023 14:50

I unplug my toaster and put it away in the cupboard.
I hate having stuff on my kitchen counters, the kettle is the exception.

If not leaving items near but not in the dishwasher will just place them in it but not stacked. Cups, bowls, never upside down, cutlery strewn throughout, not in the basket etc.
Treats buying Tupperware as some sort of leisure activity then can’t find the lids and huffs when it inevitably falls out of its designated and overflowing cupboard. This doesn’t go in the dishwasher either because of stains/streaks/never drying fully.

Anyone else really miss those eye-level grills on cookers? Made your toast perfectly and lovely bubbly cheese on toast. Pop up toasters just don't compare.

It almost, but not quite, makes me laugh. I had an operation a few weeks ago, I'm not supposed to lift anything heavier than the kettle. The vacuum has not moved in this time. With multiple dogs, it's not pretty. I've had the brush out, the dustpan and brush and I finally told him to look at the cordless which hasn't worked for 6 months so I could do the stairs. He's been on holiday (at home) for the past 2 weeks and has not had to look after me. To be fair, he does all the cooking/dog walking/accounts.

Sorry, not the point of the thread. 😣

Yes ! My Nan used to warm the plates in it.

Another "puts the dishes next to the sink instead of in the dishwasher over here." The really really annoying part of this is actually twofold: 1. if I don't then do it, he will at some point come along and actually do the task of loading the dishwasher. which seems so pointless to me when he could have just done it as he went and 2. He tends to assume that all the things in the sink are things that have been left by ME. This has caused some arguments in the past, although these stopped after he then attempted to blame 4 year old (at the time) DD! Grin

But my most petty and irrational frustration is bathmats. We have perfectly normal, rectangular shaped bathmats. I buy fat and fluffy ones. The do fit in the space, but you have to make sure they are straight as otherwise they get scrunched up/block the door etc. Keeping them straight - ie in line with the bath and sink - prevents this. The DC, and DH, cannot keep them straight. so he simply folds them in half and makes them smaller.

I might actually LTB because of this. Grin Grin Grin

@PaperBlue yes! Pretty much. I don't use my dishwasher, I don't like them, so it is not plugged in. It's integrated. We unplugged it. Tv is wall mounted, wired through the ceiling, socket in playroom behind, fully accessible.
Washing machine and dryer freestanding and our utility hasn't been fitted out yet. There will be a cooler type switch on them when we do it. Microwave is freestanding, easy to unplug, bedside lamps are in sockets behind lockers, within easy reach.
There is nothing in the house that we can't access to unplug. To be clear I didn't post that as a complaint about my DH. It doesn't bother me. I'm worse than he is🤣🤣
