Cracked heels/hole in foot (gross foot photo included)

Hi,

My foot has been hurting the past couple of days so I figured it was dry and have just been moisturising it. Today it was really hurting so I've given it a nice long soak and inspected it and I've got quite a deep hole in the heel.
What can I do to make it better?
I've attached a gross photo

Thank you

Is it being barefoot too much or not enough that causes this? Or a lot of walking? I don’t think I ever moisturise the soles of my feet, but I also have a very sedentary job so my feet have an easy life. Thanks Hope it improves soon, OP, it looks very painful.

HoppyHop · 19/08/2023 22:50

A decent foot file and Flexitol heal cream. I swear by it in the summer. It's amazing stuff.

CrotchetyQuaver · 19/08/2023 22:52

You need to book a medical pedicure at a podiatrists and get them to set you on the right track and follow their advice. Aside from the hole, your feet clearly need a bit more looking after than they're getting now if you want them to still be any good in your old age

Motherofmonsters · 19/08/2023 22:55

Having a look now they're not soaked I can see black in the hole. It doesn't look like there a wart or core in there to remove though?

I've messaged a podiatrist and will get a foot file

In my amateur opinion that is a monster verrucca of many years standing that will take some considerable time and effort to shift. I had one just like it myself and did manage to shift it eventually with some cream, maybe salicylic acid?, dressings, frequent filing and digging out. It took over a year and two goes to shift it, the first time I must have left a tiny bit which grew back. Not the end of the world it was an interesting lockdown project 😂

Takeabreather23 · 19/08/2023 23:11

You need to look after yourself . How can you not feel that .
couple months in flip flops and I hate my “drier” feet the minute they aren’t “as soft” I’m getting them sorted.

That must feel awful never mind look awful .
Yes could be a veruca

you should moisturise then daily after a shower.
First of they need some serious treatment . Get booked in to a professional

justanotherparrot · 19/08/2023 23:49

I have horrible dry skin on my feet. I try to have a foot bath every week and once the skin is really soft you can scrape away all of that horrid skin. I use a gadget from Boots which is actually a blade- you have to be careful with it though. I also use a Tropic polishing foot pebble which is great, and Flexitol foot cream is the best...something with a high urea content.
If you have a verruca then apple cider vinegar overnight will get rid of it within a week or two.

FannyFifer · 19/08/2023 23:56

Good god woman. Are you going about in sandals with your foot looking like that? It looks horrific but it must also be very very uncomfortable.
I get dry areas on feet, nothing like that though & see my podiatrist every few months.
You need to get on top of your foot care.

A lot of people with cracked/hard skin is from not moisturising the feet regularly. If you wear sandals, your skin is more exposed, so it's best to not wear them so often.

I taught myself to avoid looking at women's feet in summer as it would always repulse me. Some people really don't care how their feet look whilst they assume they're looking great elsewhere.

Black dots is verruca "seeds" (sorry I'm not sure if that's the proper term). Cover it with a plaster or you'll spread it all over your house to catch all over your feet and have lots of new verrucas. There's never anything to see really with a verruca, they're a wart that grows inwards not outwards. That hard skin marks the rim of one. Clean your shoes if you've been wearing them without socks.

I have an underactive thyroid which is linked to dry, cracked heels. I'm constantly filing them and have professional corn removal.

It looks awful because OP has been soaking it for ages - I'm sure it doesn't look anywhere near as bad once it's dried.

CeriB82 · 20/08/2023 07:57

have you never used a pumice? Why do people neglect such an important part of the body?

NeverDropYourMooncup · 20/08/2023 08:10

Motherofmonsters · 19/08/2023 21:49

I just ignored it... I'm part hobbit in the summer, flip flops or bare feet so just carried on. Thinking I should think about my feet a bit more in the future

I've worn shoes about five times since July - I still know what's going on with my feet because it's impossible to not be aware of anything wrong.

Motherofmonsters · 20/08/2023 08:25

Hi everyone,

Just in case anyone was wondering what it looks like not soaked, here's an update.

Pretty sure it is a verruca now.

Looks like you have 2

namechange1986 · 20/08/2023 08:39

Definitely looks like two and the first one is huge. Have you been treating them?

Yeah there's definitely another one but it's quite small in comparison.

Nope but I've messaged a podiatrist and ordered some verucca treatment stuff.

Unfortunately I'm off to walk around a mine and museum today so that's going to be nice for my feet

I 100% promise you that hole in your foot is a verruca

CherryogDog · 20/08/2023 08:56

I had terrible dry cracked skin like yours on my feet, despite soaking, filing and creaming them. It was only once I had a course of terbinafine for fungal toe nails that they healed up.

OffOnMyHols · 20/08/2023 09:46

I’m a bare foot person and never wear shoes around the house or garden. As a child I used to walk the mile into the village barefoot quite happily so my feet have always been tough but I’ve never had hard skin like that ever.

That must catch on the sheet really badly in bed @Motherofmonsters I’m kind of impressed you can put up with it.

IScreamAtMichaelangelos · 20/08/2023 15:36

Is it terrible that I don't think the OP's feet look bad apart from the verrucas 😂 surely dry skin on soles of feet is normal?

It's not on the soles of her feet though... and it's got a yellowish sheen to it which also isn't normal. Perhaps you should upload a picture of your feet 😮

Oblomov23 · 20/08/2023 15:51

Goodness OP that is bad. Hopefully podiatrist can sort.

Dry skin yes but that's way beyond just dry skin. Most people would have intervened before it got to this point.
