Good Morning All! What's everyone up to today?

lucysmam · 19/08/2023 09:12

I'm just about to have breakfast and my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot, with the window open. I did condsider sitting outside, but I cba to go out and see if the furninture needs drying off, then come back in for my things.

The washer's on already and there are some pots to be washed up, but not many. No other housework today though, I don't think. Might go back to bed for an hour, after breakfast 🤔

I didn't sleep well at all last night, so today will mostly be slow and steady apart from nipping into town with dd2 to have her eyes tested. We need school trousers still, as well. Hopefully she'll be in a better mood for trying on than earlier in the week 🤞

I'm not sure what dd1 will do - she may join us, but she has some college prep work she's been working through so I might suggest she stays here to work on that.

I have no idea what's for tea, probably something quick and easy from the freezer...cooked by someone else would be even better!

Tonight I've a small crochet project to finish now I have the right colour yarn, so I'll do that then head to bed early. Everyone else will probably be up way after me 🤷‍♀️

What about all of you? 🙂

Also fuck it, dominos for tea tonight. No washing up Grin

NeedTheSeaside · 19/08/2023 10:12

@lucysmam i need a Lucysmam's thread name don't I. I was my original MN name for years & years (10 or more) then too many people trying to out people & too many security breaches! I was there when you were constantly making things like Frozen dresses for the girls, then on lots of knitting threads, your long socks for one of them!

Another 4 weeks of chemo. It's great you're not having too many side effects, but all the appointments are so time consuming...still if it gets rid of it, it's all worth it!!😘

I've decided to just make some plain squares & actually get them done. I have great ideas for novelty squares but I'm too slow & I end up with them as WIP instead.

I don't usually use stash wool for WH individual blankets, I like ordering it for that person/blanket. However, I have a ridiculous amount of wool & no more storage space, so I'm trying to be good 🙄🙄.

very kind if you to offer up DD, but I'm shockingly good at flexing the credit card. Though bank replaced mine in the 1st of August & it's still not here yet so an unused one is having a turn 😂😂

Simonjt · 19/08/2023 10:12

@NeedTheSeaside Oh he definitely pulled the short straw, he’s got to settle one into nursery, one into a new school and his new job. I’m unemployed, moving a few boxes and generally having an alright time. It’s only week 1 so I know the novelty will wear off, but at least they’re not far away so I can visit once a werk until I’m over there. No I haven’t, my husband is Swedish though, so he lived there for a while, it means the move is easier as I’m the only one who isn’t a citizen. The exam is maths based, as I love maths I’m really excited about the exam, while for most people a maths exam is their worst nightmare!

legosunqueen · 19/08/2023 10:15

@lucysmam here you go www.rachelssupperclub.com/2021/01/one-pan-chicken-with-harissa-and-sweet.html

I'm going to Leeds fest too on the Sunday to see the Killers - one of my favourite bands. I reckon the chances of running into DS are low! He's looking forward to Billie Eilish & some rap bands but likes the Killers too. We're fairly local & it's a rite of passage at school after GCSEs so he went & survived last year...says he'll be too old to go next year which we thought was hilarious. The weather forecast isn't great so we will definitely need wellies whereas last year it was in the middle of the heatwave...

NeedTheSeaside · 19/08/2023 10:19

@Simonjt

i still don't know, I think I'd prefer to be settling the kids in & starting fresh, than being left on 'finishing up'!!

I like maths, I wouldn't have minded a maths exam until I lost my memory to brain fog!

Will you be able to work there as soon as you want to? Do you plan to get citizenship or is it not really necessary?

are you near any of DH's family?

is it a very inclusive kind of place?

mummybear247 · 19/08/2023 10:26

Been up since 4am with 7 month old ds as he was in the mood for playing and wanted to get up done all house work now sat playing with older dd as ds is having a nap

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 19/08/2023 10:27

Good morning Lucysmam and others. I was up fairly early - sevenish - and sorted the washing, emptied and loaded dishwasher and put a washing on. A nice man came and gave me a reasonable quote for trimming hedges and taking out trees so all systems go in early September. Then I did my usual weekly food shop which is twenty pounds a week more than before. Thank you col. I have got the tumble dryer on for sheets and I'll stick the dehumidifier on for other stuff later. Our area is absolutely inundated with fruit flies and Aldi has run out of cider vinegar but white wine vinegar is working just fine. I've ordered ninja fruit fly killer from Amazon so that'll help matters. Later I'll clean the bathroom, polish and hoover and cook a gammon for dinner. Enjoy your day.

Bbq1 · 19/08/2023 10:27

Morning @Lucysmam and all. I'm off to a makers market /craft fair at 11 with my dm. Might actually look for Xmas presents! Maybe treat myself to something. We might have lunch out. When i get home,ds will have risen! I need to tidy round. Might read then before tea. This evening will watch a bit of tv then when dh goes to work, ds and i will watch Catfish. We've just got back from an amazing holiday in California so I'm making a personalised scrapbook about out travels.

Simonjt · 19/08/2023 10:35

@NeedTheSeaside Yeah I can work straight away, like most places its generally five years to citizenship, if we’re still there then yes, having an EU passport would be a huge advantage. No we won’t be near his family, they’re not aware we’re moving anyway. Yeah it’s fine, better than the UK, plus children generally have a lot more freedom. Our eight year old has been walking himself to and from school, he wouldn’t have been able to do that from our UK home. Flexible working is easier as well, you’re essentially guaranteed it and earlier finishing if you have young children.

Taytocrisps · 19/08/2023 10:47

Morning @lucysmam. I had a nice lie on today. I'm visiting my elderly Dad this afternoon. I usually visit him on Sunday but I'm meeting up with friends tomorrow. Need to get moving shortly and get some breakfast (I need to buy bread). Dad and I will go somewhere for lunch so I won't have to cook later. Will probably chill in front of the TV this evening. I've had two recommendations from work colleagues, so I'll check them out.

DD got up early and fed the cats and is back in bed. She's going to her Dad's at some point.

We had Storm Betty here last night so it's still a bit windy and wet, but not as bad as last night.

BCBird · 19/08/2023 10:47

Morning all. Debating whether to do dome decluttering- how can 1 person accumulate so much rubbish and make so much mess? Going to.do some exercises for shoulder very painful. Promised to bale a cake for mate I'm.meeting tomorrow. Will be a struggle stirring it😬might wat h si.e comedy later. Rock and roll lifestyle here🤪 have a good day al.

Natsku · 19/08/2023 10:50

Nothing much today. Going to bike to the supermarket soon to buy some food as our car is at the garage being repaired. DD is going to her friend's house for a sleepover, DS is playing Zelda but I need to tell him to stop soon, and OH is ill and hiding in the basement to not get the rest of us ill (I'm sleeping in DS's room - I really do not want to get ill now and miss any days of my new school)

lucysmam · 19/08/2023 10:53

@NeedTheSeaside I really need a clue. I still have all their dresses, upstairs. I keep thinking about passing them on or taking them into school but then have second thoughts. I love my long socks in the winter, they're just the right amount of slouch/oversized 😊

Thank you @legosunqueen I'll give it a whirl over the next week at some point. Enjoy TK and whoever else you see 🎶🎤

Ooh @mummybear247 will you get chance to nap?

@Bbq1 enjoy the craft fair. I quite enjoy craft fair, haven't seen any locally for a while (but then, I haven't paid much attention either tbh).

@LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand the cost of food shopping's getting more and more daft as we go along. I've been finding it easier/more cost effective to shop for a month at once then top up weekly ish with fresh/stuff that doesn't all fit at once 🙄(relies on having the funds to do that though, which at one point wouldn't have been the case at all).

I've put the washing out & tidied round a bit. Just thinking about heading to get sorted for dd2's appointment now...only thinking mind, coffee first 🤣

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 19/08/2023 10:58

Lucysmam I used to do a monthly shop when I was working then top up as and when I needed to. But I had a massive chest freezer and a smaller freezer which helped. Now I've retired, I don't mind shopping weekly but I suspect it's costing me more.

mummybear247 · 19/08/2023 11:02

@lucysmam nope no chance of a nap lol I'm sure I can find something to clean or throw out some junk I don't need waiting for the other half to take a wardrobe down as it's getting in my way and taking up room I need for other things ds is now awake and full of beans x

Kim82 · 19/08/2023 11:04

Good morning all. I’m shattered today, I’m due my B12 jab on Wednesday and I’m also not sleeping at all - I ended up on the sofa at around 3.30am last night then was rudely awoken by next door’s dc shouting and arguing outside at 6.45am while the parents ignored them and continued packing the car for a day out. I was not amused!

Luckily I got an early dart from work yesterday so cleaned throughout downstairs so no need to do it today. I should do upstairs really but I just don’t have the energy at all.

So far this morning I’ve put the Tesco shop away and cleared the kitchen after breakfast. Dh is at work this morning and dd18 will be setting off to work in half an hour too.

Dd16 is still in bed and dd9 is sitting next to me eating all the food that just got delivered 🤣

My sister is visiting this afternoon and bringing my 10 year old niece so dd9 will be playing with her most of the day. I’m hoping the weather picks up as it’s windy this morning and I was hoping to have a couple of drinks in the garden.

I need to help dh put the curtain pole in the living room back up today as the kitten pulled it down yesterday when scaling the curtains!

Then it’s just me, dd16 and dd9 for tea so we’re having chicken legs, spicy rice and corn on the cob (I really want to order a takeaway but we need to save as I booked a holiday this week for October - yay!) and then this evening I’ll have a glass of wine, put a film on and will probably fall asleep on the sofa at 8.30pm…

LauderSyme · 19/08/2023 11:08

Morning. I like this thread 🙂

I was up at 8, emptied the dishwasher, tidied the kitchen, gave ds breakfast, ironed his kit, took him on the bus to his sports club, came home.

Organised mobile car wash to clean Mum's car. Have got to wrap her birthday present and write her card for tomorrow

Will go back in an hour to collect ds then the afternoon is ours to do as we please.

If I write down here that I will use the time wisely to do something useful around the house, do you think it'll make it so?!

lucysmam · 19/08/2023 11:14

@LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand ah, yes, I have a chest and then fridge-freezer set up here. I'd be lost without the chest now. And I almost said no when my friend offered it to me 😱 I think it needs a new seal though so will have to look into that!

@Kim82 my two like to appear as the Tesco driver arrives, to see what goodies are to be had 🤣

@LauderSyme I love these type of nosey threads, seeing a small slice of everyone's everyday life, or what they're having for tea 😊

HI @lucysmam . Been a busy week here, my daughter turned 9 on Tuesday and my husband's birthday was on Wednesday. The children went back to school on Wednesday. I'm enjoying the morning with my youngest, we've made our saturday traybake -tiffin! My husband was away to work at 8,30 and i had all the housework done by 9am, Going to b and m this afternoon. I can't drive at the moment- I had an mri on 6th August and am,anxiously, awaiting the results, A gousto ( got a great deal) meal for tea. This evening, my husband will take the older 2 to play football and hit some golf balls and the youngest and I will watch a film. Not great weather here, so looking forward to a chilled , cosy evening. Hope you all have a lovely saturday.

Eggsley · 19/08/2023 13:30

Hi @lucysmam and all!

I was up early ish and took the dog for a 2 mile walk with DH and DS2. Then took DS2 to his football training. Popped over to my parents to drop off DM's birthday card/present and nipped to Tesco on the way home. We've had some lunch and DS1 has gone out to the park to meet his mates. DS2 is gaming. DH is chilling on the sofa and so am I. We will watch football later on and have an early night tonight as we've got a day out planned for tomorrow.

RabbitsRock · 19/08/2023 13:55

Late to the party! Enjoying the peace & quiet as DD14 is in Dorset for the weekend with her girlfriend. We fell out before she left so she’s not responded positively to our texts! DH isn’t working until 3 so we chilled in bed this morning & I made him a cuppa. I’m still on holiday. Popped to Tescos for a few bits( I really should get organised with my food shopping as I end up going nearly every day & it’s not economical. Plus I end up buying more wine!) Also went to Farmfoods as they have 24 tins of Heinz baked beans for £18. DH loves them & DD has started to have more or less a can a day lately. A stupid woman parked way too close to me in a massive jeep then when she reversed to allow me to squeeze into my car, she hit my wing mirror. It’s a courtesy car so obviously I was more worried about any damage. She completely denied hitting my mirror, saying the camera in her car didn’t show it, but I saw her & so did the shop assistant who was helping me to load heavy stuff into my boot. I must admit, I don’t like my substitute car. But at least I can still get around whilst mine is being fixed.
Going to see DF & DM later as it was their anniversary yesterday & I still have their card. Need to prepare spuds, carrots & broccoli for tea at some point which we will have with chicken breasts baked in foil.May watch a film if we’re not too tired but I’m struggling as I’m due my Vit B12 injection. The kitchen surfaces need blitzing & DH will hoover through.

Bonfire23 · 19/08/2023 13:57

Went to Morrisons to do a food shop, was pretty quiet around 10am thankfully!
Made some focaccia which is resting in the fridge - rosemary, sun dried tomatoes and Parmesan
Cleaned the kitchen, put the bins out, washing up all done
Sorted some laundry out, brushed the cat Grin
Having a v lazy day really as I need it (chronic illness causes fatigue) so I might have a nap and then think about some cooking later

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 19/08/2023 14:13

@NeedTheSeaside If you mean the kitten, she’s a right little shit at the moment! You’d give her back 😂

Hello everyone! I had a bit of a lie in today (8.30am) as DH got up early with DDs.

We've been for a walk and a run around the park, two loads of washing done and currently drying on the line as it's a lovely sunny day.

Now just chilling out, DDs are watching cartoons, DH reading and I'm scrolling Mumsnet. I'm off for a manicure in a bit.

Fish finger sandwiches for dinner, we've been hosting extended family all week and I really can't be bothered with any more cooking!
