Period pants for 10yo

ThreePlusOne789 · 17/08/2023 13:39

Morning all my dd has started her period! I am looking at buying some period knickers I've done some searches and modibodi seems to be the preferred option (although open to opinions)

Question is most of them I can see online and moderate - heavy flows. Just wondering if that's OK or do I need to buy some light flow ones too? There only seems to be a couple in the light flow most of the teen ones are moderate to heavy. Will these be suitable?

I'll be honest I use contraception purely to avoid periods as mine were absolutely horrific so feel a little out touch I'm ashamed to say. Any advice is very much appreciated.

There are loads of threads about this. My DD has always used the boy shorts by cheeky wipes. She puts a reusable pad in them in the morning and takes it out in the afternoon so that she doesn’t have the faff of having to change pants at school.

MissShapesMissStakes · 17/08/2023 13:43

My daughter is happier in heavy flow no matter what. They are comfy. She has been happy with Cheeky and Mobibodi. Boy shorts also as she feels more secure in them.

DD uses the ones from M&S and they've been great. They're also a lot cheaper than some of the other options. I just bought all moderate - heavy flow. I bought a couple of pairs to see if she liked them then bought more once she was happy with them. I think she now has 9 pairs which last about 3 days as I didn't want to be washing every day.

I use the Uniqlo ones (as a mooncup backup) which come in very small sizes.

My daughters use wuka medium flow and the occasional heavy flow when they have some in their reduced section. They've been fab, not needed a pad as well, they've lasted a full school day with no issues.

Posting on here for tips

I bought a pair from Asda but they felt like wearing a feet sweaty swimming costume. Are they supposed to feel like that?

Jellycatspyjamas · 17/08/2023 14:53

My DD has M&S ones that definitely don’t feel like a swimming costume, they’re slightly heavier cotton pants with a padded absorbent gusset. She sometimes wears them when she’s not on her period because she finds them really comfortable.

Bruisername · 17/08/2023 15:04

M&S are winners here too. The more expensive wuka have been cast aside as she says they feel like a nappy.

I have some Modibodi ones in a size 6 women’s that came up too small for 12yo dd. Was too late to return and vinted took the listing down! Would be looking for half the new price (one pair tried on over underwear, other one unopened). PM me if interested

ThreePlusOne789 · 17/08/2023 15:12

Thank you all so much. I've seen the threads on this on the website but just wanted to see recent opinions etc

I'll have a look at m&s ones and also the cheeky ones too

My DDs have the modibodi ones. They are both very happy with them.

They came in a seven pack and you could choose different absorbencies but I just opted for the heavy flow ones. I found the sizing to be big. My youngest is sixteen but has age 12-14.

ShutTheDoorBabe · 17/08/2023 15:20

What do you do with them? Can you wear them all day or do you have to change them every few hours like with a regular pad? Do they swell up like a nappy does? Do you wash them with your normal wash or do you have to swill them out first?

alwaysonadiet1 · 17/08/2023 15:36

Another vote for M&S

Jellycatspyjamas · 17/08/2023 15:38

My DD can use one pair during the day and one overnight. They don’t swell up and she rinses them out before popping them in our usual laundry. I don’t use fabric conditioner, if you do you’d need to wash them separately. They’re really hassle free.

TattiePants · 17/08/2023 16:01

@ShutTheDoorBabe my DD wears 3 pairs during a day so roughly 8 hours each. She has no problems wearing one pair for a full school day or over night. She says they don’t feel any different to normal pants so don’t feel heavy like a nappy. I rinse them in cold water when she takes them off then wash them in the machine without fabric softener then line dry.

ThreePlusOne789 · 17/08/2023 16:21

Sorry to ask again my dd is age 10 but in size 13-14yo clothes she's very tall but slim.

M&s period pants are in adult sizes would the size 6 roughly equate to a 13-14 child size? I'm guessing 15-16 is size 8 ish?

We can't use fabric softener anyway but thank you for the info, it's really helpful 👍

QuillBill · 17/08/2023 17:14

Marks and Spencer's sizes are generous. I'd get the very smallest you can.

ThatsALampost · 17/08/2023 17:22

M&S here too. A few pairs of Victoria’s Secret pink range ones too, and I’m inclined to think they’re even better

DebbieDickinson · 17/08/2023 17:47

DD loves Modibodi, ordered her some more this week! Even found a discount code online to use as well for 15% off!! LOUISEMODIBODI is anyone wants

GCWorkNightmare · 17/08/2023 19:30

M&S and modibodi have forgotten em what women are so I wouldn’t trust them with pants for something only women have.

FlamingYam · 17/08/2023 19:40

This is really interesting. Great post. I'm in the exact same boat and after being able to count my periods for the last two decades on one hand, I was flummoxed all over again by the pads etc available.

user1494050295 · 17/08/2023 19:43

M and s are a game changer. Inc the high waist ones. Very comfy. Modi bodi for swim bottoms. Really good. Daughter doesn’t even blink an eye using them.

theysaiditgetseasier · 17/08/2023 19:48

M&S size 6 for my dd, she's autistic and very sensory with clothing, she finds these very comfortable, I get got the full brief & bikini brief style, very good and wash really well. I hand wash only though.

Sillybillypoopoomummy · 17/08/2023 19:52

haven't read the whole thread but modibodi saved the day for my dd. She started her period in yr 6 and I soon discovered she was spending all breaks waiting outside the toilets until nobody was inside so no rustling would be heard. I bought hte 8 pack (I think all heavy flow) and she is now 13 and still using them every month. This was pre M&S etc but I can attest to the longevity of the modibodi ones.
