How much do you still look like younger you?

Just an idle musing really.

How similar to younger you do you look?

I met up with my friend yesterday who is 61. She doesn't really look any different to she did when she was 41. When she didn't look much different to when she was 21!

Obviously older and her face etc has matured but still instantly recognisable as her.

Apparently, I don't look any different to I did as a teenager/very early 20s. Obviously, my face has matured but I'm still obviously the same person.

I've bumped into people I went to school with a few times and, although they've recognised me, I haven't had a clue who they were! Recognised the name when they introduced themselves but never would have realised otherwise. Or I've seen photos of friends and colleagues in their younger days and they just looked completely different. Not better or worse necessarily just really different.

I'm 60, recently bumped into the sister of a uni friend; haven't seen this sister (or the friend )in 30-plus years. She recognized me instantly. Really surprised me as i haven't aged well.

otherwayup · 17/08/2023 12:11

I'm 52 and look exactly the same, albeit with an older face!

I've stayed the same weight that I was as a teenager and my hair is the same colour and style 😂
I even wear some of the clothes I had 30 years ago, my dc think it's hilarious!

enchantedsquirrelwood · 17/08/2023 12:11

I went off to Facebook to look for the people I knew from primary school. Three girls, now late 40s/early 50s, are instantly recognisable as well.

I found an old photo of myself at the Queen's Silver Jubilee in 1977 and sent a picture to my ds who replied saying "it's hilarious that you still look the same at 50 as you did at 5" :)

I don't have the same clothes as I did as a teen although I probably am about the same size. Actually I do have an old-style ballgown that I got at university and that did fit the last time I tried it on. I was 18 when I got that though, not younger.

SisterAgatha · 17/08/2023 12:14

Similar but not much. I’m like a dazzling shiny version of my younger self, think Adele before and after. I take much better care of myself now. No surgery, just weight loss and better grooming. School friends do recognise me but I have some features that no one can get past haha!

I showed my daughter a picture of me and she said “mummy how did you change your face”.

scrivette · 17/08/2023 12:18

From the age of 13 I haven't changed at all, just got older but have the same face.

Deadringer · 17/08/2023 12:18

I was at my 40th school reunion and everyone recognised me, they all said I look exactly the same. I am just a saggy, baggy, wrinkled version of my young self.

Deadringer · 17/08/2023 12:21

Actually all the girls looked the same at the reunion, just older, but a lot of the boys were completely unrecognisable.

Worldgonecrazy · 17/08/2023 12:26

My husband looks completely different, I don’t recognise him on photos, even those from 20/30 years ago when he was an adult. He is much better looking these days - he has aged like a fine wine!

I look almost exactly the same as I did when I was 10/12. Same face shape, same long wavy brown hair though with a few silver streaks, a few more wrinkles, and a few more curves. It’s probably why I don’t feel the urge for fillers or hair dye, as I recognise the person in the mirror.

Looking at school friends I would say about one third are the same, one third you can recognise after some thought, and one third look completely different.

MaydinEssex · 17/08/2023 12:33

I have had people approach me saying they remember me from years ago, i.e., school or a previous workplace, etc, so I guess I've not changed too much.

RantyAnty · 17/08/2023 12:34

I don't look the same as a very young child as I had a chubby face.

I did a recreate photo of when I was 23 when I turned 53. Tried to wear a similar shirt and hairstyle and people thought I had just changed my clothing and that both pictures were from the same time period so apparently I look basically the same.

Inmybirthdaysuit · 17/08/2023 12:37

I'm going through a bit of a thing lately where I feel like my face is changing? It's weird and I don't really know how to describe what has changed but I feel like something has. I'm late 30s, my weight has always been pretty much the same, my hair is the same, I just feel like my face has changed. It's weird and I don't really like it.

LubaLuca · 17/08/2023 12:40

My face is exactly the same as when I was a toddler, even my expressions are unchanged. I have a picture of my tiny toddler giving a very knowing half smile, and it makes me laugh every time I look at it - it's the same face I see in the mirror and every photo that's been taken of me since the 1970s.

LubaLuca · 17/08/2023 12:41

AppleTurnover1000Degrees · 17/08/2023 12:43

I obviously look a lot older but I look the same. I've always had the same colour hair and different version of the same style.

I've met many old school friends who I don't recognise but know who I am.

Theproofofthepudding · 17/08/2023 12:46

I read that after menopause you start looking more like your Dad again like new borns tend to..maybe your hormone surge comes from your Mum. I definitely feel I looked more like her in my prime

I really look like my Mum so wouldn't I just look like my Mum after she had gone through menapause. She looks similar to her Mum did when she was older.

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 17/08/2023 13:10

Still recognisable not just in looks, but mannerisms! Someone wasn't totally sure it was me, then I started talking using my hands and she was suddenly very sure! No hiding for me then.

ThePoshUns · 17/08/2023 15:46

I've been told I look the same as I did when I was a kid and looking at photos it's probably correct. I still have a similar hairstyle although that has changed over the years!

Billyhargrovesmullet · 17/08/2023 16:04

My mum is in her eighties and looks the same as a photo of her at 8 years old (plus obvious aging), I get told I look the same as when younger too

Spywoman · 17/08/2023 16:10

I haven't changed much. People would know it was me from senior school and I'm now in my 60s. But I'm a lot less attractive now, even for my age. My cheekbones and chin seem to have gone!

UsingChangeofName · 17/08/2023 16:36

I went to a school reunion 20 years after A levels.
There were about 20 of us there from our class.

I was fascinated how 18 of us (to my eyes) looked just as we did at school - I mean, obviously a bit older, but instantly recognisable.

1 looked completely different - wouldn't have known her, and one looked SO much older (she was quite a heavy smoker).

Now we are all tipping into our 60s, I think fewer of us still look the same, but there are 3 or 4 I think I would easily have recognised if I'd not seen them for 40 years.

I, however, now look like my Mum.
One of my dd's looks like I did at her age
ds looks like his Dad (but has done since he was a toddler, tbf).

SisterhoodWhatever · 17/08/2023 17:30

I have obviously aged but I still look the same and am recognisable.

elp30 · 17/08/2023 20:35

I was showing my adult children photos of me throughout the years. Despite me having white/grey hair, they remarked that I still look exactly the same. Obviously, much older and much chubbier but they said there was no doubt it was me.

I was in a shop when I recognized my boss from my first job. I just smiled at him and right away he came over to say hello because he knew me right away. We last saw each other when I was 25 and he was 32 and we're now 53 and he is 60. He even recognized me with my white hair.

AppleTurnover1000Degrees · 17/08/2023 20:41

Overtime quite a few men have said they remember me from school, say their name and I remember their name but hadn't recognised them. I saw a woman the other day who I went to school with and recognised her straight away even though we weren't friends. I do have a close friend who looks different. She just grew more beautiful when she got older in her 20's.
