Do you like the smell of the butchers

I’ve always loved it. Not even just the cooked side. I also love the smell of the raw side.

Don’t know why. I don’t stick my nose into a pile of meat at home yet I can’t help but give a good sniff as I walk by the local butchers

No. Never liked it, the smell made me physically sick when I was pregnant and even now I’ll avoid walking past as it makes me gag

Sennelier1 · 17/08/2023 16:17

No, but on the other hand I love the smell of garage, petrol station, tire business🤦🏼‍♀️

Mugaloaf · 17/08/2023 16:30

I've always hated the smell of raw meat (don't notice it so much now), but I love the smell of petrol.

Aria20 · 17/08/2023 16:35

No I hate the smell of butchers, fish mongers, cheese delicatessen, petrol, strong coffee, McDonald's, fried chicken or kebab shops etc

I like the smell of freshly baked bread in a bakery, proper pizzerias and fancy chocolate shops though!

I really hate the smell of raw meat, but really loves the taste of cooked meat

Is that really worth a comment? Who doesn't like the taste of cooked meat... lol

SisterhoodWhatever · 17/08/2023 16:39

Doesn’t bother me, funnily enough I am hugely allergic to perfume. So with any smell I don’t care as long as I don’t have an allergic reaction x

The price of the one near me is pretty decent.

I mean, this is their current offer

That £20 star buy is going to be like the special meat in League of Gentlemen.

The last thing you want is budget meat 🤢

It's one of the smells that really really disgusts me. When I go in I breathe through my mouth. It's horrible. I actually prefer the smell of dirty public toilets to the smell of the butcher shop.

Petrol stations on the other hand 😍 yuuuuymmmmmm

I feel exactly the same way about all of those things bizarrely. I love the smell of fresh cut grass also.
The butchers smell is revolting to me.

👌

evtheria · 17/08/2023 16:46

No, it's not a disgusting smell but it's offputting. However, raw beef smells delicious.... I've no desire to eat raw beef yet, but love when I've opened a fresh parcel of mince.

WobbIy · 17/08/2023 16:47

@Popworld 👍

pamplemoussemousse · 17/08/2023 16:50

No it's awful! The sour, bordering rancid smell of old blood mixed with the overpowering smell of raw flesh and an undertone of sawdust 🤢

TheChosenTwo · 17/08/2023 16:54

I hate it. Dh goes though as he does the cooking so it’s very rare that I ever need to go in one.
That special buy offer looks questionable, the reason we use our butcher is the welfare of the meat he sources. It’s all from one of 2 local farms. I think we’d struggle to get a decent sized brisket alone for less than £20!

Soubriquet · 17/08/2023 17:00

Petrol is another I love.

And they do a different offer each month on their star buys. It’s a good quality butcher with a lot of award wins. I doubt it’s selling off crap meat

No but I love the smell of a proper hardware shop - think it's the paraffin that was used for heaters and lamps. You don't seem to smell it much nowadays.

AuntieMarys · 17/08/2023 17:11

No. Physically cannot go in. I was like it as a child too.
I eat meat rarely but always wear latex gloves to prep

newnamethanks · 17/08/2023 17:11

Blood? Raw fish? No thank you. Cheese shops too, ugh. Oh and those soapy bath bomb places, forgotten their name but have to cross the road away from them. Masks had their advantage.

Soubriquet · 17/08/2023 17:12

There used to be a logging yard near by that would soak their wood in creosote.

It was delicious giving the air a good smell as you went by. Doesn’t smell like that anymore

Here's one for the ancients, the smell of a steam train and the autumn smell of bonfires. That's more like it. Ahhhh.

Aria20 · 17/08/2023 17:19

@newnamethanks yes "Lush" I hate the smell of their shops it gives me a headache! All those sweet smelling glittery bath bombs!

Wednesdaysotherchild · 17/08/2023 17:22

It smells of blood and death so obviously not! I have always avoided (crossed the road) or held my nose walking past if no choice. Cooked meat smells revolting too. I don’t want to look at any of it. But then I’m a lifelong veggie now vegan, thank goodness.

Wednesdaysotherchild · 17/08/2023 17:24

Plus dairy and cheese also smell gross. Weird thing to me that I only noticed since going vegan is that milk and beef both have the same underlying smell - cow!

Oldermum84 · 17/08/2023 17:41

Absolutely love it. My favourite is raw mince, I always shove my nose in there when about to cook it. I once singed my hair smelling it in the pan!

Swirlingpearl · 17/08/2023 17:46

Wow I’m surprised that anyone could like that smell. Just shows how different we all are.
personally, I hate it 🤢

Soubriquet · 17/08/2023 17:47

I can tell you one thing I can’t stand which most people do…

coffee. To me it smells like dirty cat litter
